We've been asked by Ready brek to find out about MNers' best porridge based recipes and healthy breakfast creations

Ready brek says "Coinciding with the launch of Ready brek's 'easy sachets' collection, we'd love to hear about how MNers customise their porridge. In tasty Original and delicious Chocolate and Gingerbread flavours, and made only from finely milled oats, vitamins and minerals, this hot oat cereal delivers all the benefits of an adult porridge, but without the lumps. Easy to make in the microwave or with hot milk this kids' porridge gives your children a tasty warming start to the day. But the Ready brek oats can be used for so much more than just porridge. One look at the Ready brek and Weetabix website shows just how versatile these oats can be. From Ready brek breakfast muffins, to 'ginger-brek men', there's hundreds of ways you can make your cereal go further."

So, how do you customise your porridge or Ready brek? Maybe you add some bananas? Or do you prefer to add blueberries or raspberries? Perhaps honey is your usual addition? Whatever you add to your porridge, Ready brek would love to hear about how you keep breakfast time fun and healthy.

If you don't usually have porridge for breakfast, do you have any porridge based recipes? Perhaps you like to add porridge oats when you're baking cookies? Or maybe you'd rather use your porridge oats for flapjacks? Let Ready brek know what your favourite porridge based recipes are.

Every MNer who posts on this thread will go into a prize draw to win £250 from Ready brek and Weetabix.

Thanks,
MNHQ

Sultanas & honey is what I like to add to my porridge

goshhhhhh · 09/09/2014 07:43

We make porridge islands. Milk around theoutside for sea. squares of Apple for houses. Brown sugar & cinnamon beaches. Raisin boats......they are getting a bit old for this but still love it!

kenshutt · 09/09/2014 07:43

Milk, sugar and honey.

BizziLiz · 09/09/2014 07:43

I was born in Aberdeenshire so only add a pinch of salt to porridge.

marcc82 · 09/09/2014 07:49

Jam

Darienne · 09/09/2014 07:53

Honey

bigMo12 · 09/09/2014 07:55

In Scotland the only traditional proper thing to add to your porridge is a little salt. That is all.

I can't stand porridge. Sorry!
But DH and DD have it most mornings. DH has it with sugar and DD either has the same or sliced banana or other fruit. Her favourite at the moment is mango. I get the frozen cubed mango from tesco and take a few out the night before ready for breakfast.

peaf · 09/09/2014 08:04

Maply syrup - simple but excellent!

KittyKat88 · 09/09/2014 08:06

My DDs love few slices of banana in their Ready Brek, plus a swirl of honey or maple syrup for a bit of added sweetness

Chopstheduck · 09/09/2014 08:08

Just a drizzle of honey

badgermum · 09/09/2014 08:10

I love to add blueberries and strawberries, tastes lovely and a handful adds one of my five a day

Ganne · 09/09/2014 08:10

Salt and whatever fruit is to hand

Porridgefloats · 09/09/2014 08:11

I occasionally have half a packet of Rolos swirled into my ready break!

AllSorted · 09/09/2014 08:23

We often add a handful of frozen fruits - tasty and cools it down quickly so the kids can eat it.
Gingerbread flavour sounds good!

alabaster002 · 09/09/2014 08:26

Pineapple juice .... for a tropical taste!

rebecca971 · 09/09/2014 08:27

Mashed banana (which I cook with the porridge), a bit of cinnamon and a sprinkle of brown sugar.

26jibby · 09/09/2014 08:34

Golden syrup

ClaireFarley · 09/09/2014 08:34

Local Honey to add that Natural sweetness and hopefully to add Hayfever relieving properties and it helps support the local community

smamfer · 09/09/2014 08:35

When having porridge we have a selection of extras in our family, I add a bit of cinnamon and orange to mine as i like the mixture.

My daughter will add honey and a squeeze of lemon

When my 3yr old niece comes she likes it with raisins and apple!

cuppawithbiccies · 09/09/2014 08:37

usually add sultanas, however at the moment have a glut of apples from the garden so have been adding stewed apples with cinnamon

Stoodles · 09/09/2014 08:40

I have mine naked. You can't improve on nature

misty64 · 09/09/2014 09:00

Honey

MrsJefferies · 09/09/2014 09:00

I add chopped dried apricots and raisins. Also grated pink lady apple is delicious in porridge.
I also add a teaspoon of linseed as it is very good for digestion

libra101 · 09/09/2014 09:09

Treacle! Rich and delicious!
