We've been asked by Ready brek to find out about MNers' best porridge based recipes and healthy breakfast creations

Ready brek says "Coinciding with the launch of Ready brek's 'easy sachets' collection, we'd love to hear about how MNers customise their porridge. In tasty Original and delicious Chocolate and Gingerbread flavours, and made only from finely milled oats, vitamins and minerals, this hot oat cereal delivers all the benefits of an adult porridge, but without the lumps. Easy to make in the microwave or with hot milk this kids' porridge gives your children a tasty warming start to the day. But the Ready brek oats can be used for so much more than just porridge. One look at the Ready brek and Weetabix website shows just how versatile these oats can be. From Ready brek breakfast muffins, to 'ginger-brek men', there's hundreds of ways you can make your cereal go further."

So, how do you customise your porridge or Ready brek? Maybe you add some bananas? Or do you prefer to add blueberries or raspberries? Perhaps honey is your usual addition? Whatever you add to your porridge, Ready brek would love to hear about how you keep breakfast time fun and healthy.

If you don't usually have porridge for breakfast, do you have any porridge based recipes? Perhaps you like to add porridge oats when you're baking cookies? Or maybe you'd rather use your porridge oats for flapjacks? Let Ready brek know what your favourite porridge based recipes are.

Every MNer who posts on this thread will go into a prize draw to win £250 from Ready brek and Weetabix.

Thanks,
MNHQ

I'm not really that fussed on porridge but if I have to eat it then I like lots of fresh fruit in it.

MothershipG · 08/09/2014 21:46

Demerara sugar or maple syrup on chunky oat porridge, ready brek is far too smooth, like baby food.

missorinoco · 08/09/2014 21:46

My family think porridge is the ultimate breakfast food, and will eat it unadulterated. DH likes honey on his.

I think it is the work of the devil (sorry Ready Brek) but love baking, so snaffle the stuff for flapjacks, MN breakfast bars are on the menu for the weekend, and for crumble topping.

I did try using oats in chilli to bulk it out, which supposedly is not noticeable but makes the mince go further. Crunchy chilli was a little too weird, and I wouldn't recommend it.

The best porridge I ever had was in a little hippy cafe in Greenwhich Village, New York. They had all the toppings I would have a few of, but they had them all and I had them all at once. Pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, walnuts, sultanas, dates, grated apple, banana, berries, honey, agave syrup, cinnamon. Soy milk.

Perfect precursor to a transatlantic flight home.

My children (6, 2) like it with runny honey and raisins.

Homemade rhubarb compote is lovely in porridge. Will definitely try adding cinnamon - sounds lovely

jparslow · 09/09/2014 06:30

polly3221 · 09/09/2014 06:31

Sultanas yummm

janeyf1 · 09/09/2014 06:40

I like to add blueberries, chopped grapes and strawberries and jam

wendymurray3 · 09/09/2014 06:43

When I ran a small Bed & Breakfast on a Scottish Island I used to add a little bit of cream and a wee dash of Scotch Whisky to my porridge. Many guests told me it was the best porridge they have ever tasted :)

CheeryCherry · 09/09/2014 06:44

Another one here who adds raisins or a spoonful of golden syrup :)

createbeauty · 09/09/2014 06:51

For my ReadyBrek, I always add 10g of runny honey and a generous coating of cinnamon. I also use 100mL of Almond milk, which I think makes it taste better than using water or dairy milk. Mmmm.

sarahann1984 · 09/09/2014 06:58

Almond milk and half a mashed banana. I then top with raspberries and chopped banana and place in the oven for 7 minutes. Watm and delish! Great for winter.

sc00ter · 09/09/2014 07:08

It's all according to what I have in the fridge / cupboards really:
I love fresh berries in summer - raspberries, blueberries etc.
A few seeds and dried fruits and good old jams in winter.
I love to use things up and pride myself in not throwing anything away apart from peeling and the like.

Sallyannlloydjones · 09/09/2014 07:17

Banana or blueberries and a spoonful of muesli

brownhandbag · 09/09/2014 07:19

golden syrup and cream

maryandbuzz1 · 09/09/2014 07:24

Usually just sugar but when raspberries are in season I have those.

barbsbarbs · 09/09/2014 07:25

I actually don't add anything, I love ready brek the way it is.

mandyraw · 09/09/2014 07:26

Maple syrup. Mmmmnnnnn.......

adamcorner · 09/09/2014 07:28

My dad keeps bees so always honey, then we mix it up between different dried fruit and nuts

castleton · 09/09/2014 07:29

I love porridge and just add sultans

babsmam · 09/09/2014 07:32

I make it with full fat milk and stir in a spoonful of honey.

Dh loads his with nuts and seeds and honey

D's just like mine and dd won't touch it with someone else's barge pole although loved ready brek at the weaning stage.

suzyq50 · 09/09/2014 07:33

Usually cinnamon or sugar but for an extra energy kick some sliced banana or blueberries.

catowen · 09/09/2014 07:34

I top my porridge with Horlicks powder and a small sprinkle of sugar

ItsNotEasyBeingGreen · 09/09/2014 07:37

With DS's ready brek we go for as it comes. But when I have it I cover it in sugar so it goes all funny on the top naughty. Sometimes I throw in chocolate chips.

I have a sweet tooth.

Cereal0ffender · 09/09/2014 07:39

Another maple syrup here, occasionally just salt if I am feeling particular austere
