We've been asked by Ready brek to find out about MNers' best porridge based recipes and healthy breakfast creations

Ready brek says "Coinciding with the launch of Ready brek's 'easy sachets' collection, we'd love to hear about how MNers customise their porridge. In tasty Original and delicious Chocolate and Gingerbread flavours, and made only from finely milled oats, vitamins and minerals, this hot oat cereal delivers all the benefits of an adult porridge, but without the lumps. Easy to make in the microwave or with hot milk this kids' porridge gives your children a tasty warming start to the day. But the Ready brek oats can be used for so much more than just porridge. One look at the Ready brek and Weetabix website shows just how versatile these oats can be. From Ready brek breakfast muffins, to 'ginger-brek men', there's hundreds of ways you can make your cereal go further."

So, how do you customise your porridge or Ready brek? Maybe you add some bananas? Or do you prefer to add blueberries or raspberries? Perhaps honey is your usual addition? Whatever you add to your porridge, Ready brek would love to hear about how you keep breakfast time fun and healthy.

If you don't usually have porridge for breakfast, do you have any porridge based recipes? Perhaps you like to add porridge oats when you're baking cookies? Or maybe you'd rather use your porridge oats for flapjacks? Let Ready brek know what your favourite porridge based recipes are.

Every MNer who posts on this thread will go into a prize draw to win £250 from Ready brek and Weetabix.

Thanks,
MNHQ

jovigirl1972 · 18/09/2014 13:28

banana and brown sugar :)

MerryMarigold · 18/09/2014 13:31

Peanut butter, banana and double cream sounds potentially AWESOME and potentially awFUL. I am going to try it let's forget about the calories.

IAmNotDarling · 18/09/2014 13:39

Crunchy almond butter and chopped dates.

chunkychocky · 18/09/2014 13:52

Golden syrup :)

cheekylittledevil · 18/09/2014 13:59

Hmm - I might try peanut butter. I've also got some pumpkin seed butter that is a bit weird might be worth a go. Love porridge with honey or will have muscovado sugar if I'm feeling like a treat. Just don't tell the sugar police....

TwoMs · 18/09/2014 14:26

Seeds pumpkin/sunflower/flax/etc. and blackberries at the moment too Smile

It's nearly that time to have porridge in the mornings daily now Autumn is here.

Our fave addings to porridge are:

Linseeds (me)
Jam (DD)
Pineapple (all of us)
Peaches (all of us)
Raisons (DD & me)

DH makes flapjacks and they are so yummy everyone comments on how good they are. I add porridge oats to the top of apple crumble too Smile

TaurielTest · 18/09/2014 15:25

Handful of seeds (pumpkin, linseed) and a spot of maple syrup.
Or dark muscovado sugar which melts in a pleasing way...

THe only porridge recipe I can think of is that when I make crumble, I do the topping half flour half oats.

I hadn't realised how versatile porridge could be! For me it has always been raisins. Although, I used to love the way my Granddad made porridge when I was little based on how his mom used to make it. It was lovely and thick and creamy but he used to sprinkle soft brown sugar over the top in a good layer and then put it under the grill till the sugar was warm and melted. Then he would dribble cold milk around the edges. Now that was delicious porridge.

cluckyhen · 18/09/2014 18:15

I like bananas on mine!
