We've been asked by Ready brek to find out about MNers' best porridge based recipes and healthy breakfast creations

Ready brek says "Coinciding with the launch of Ready brek's 'easy sachets' collection, we'd love to hear about how MNers customise their porridge. In tasty Original and delicious Chocolate and Gingerbread flavours, and made only from finely milled oats, vitamins and minerals, this hot oat cereal delivers all the benefits of an adult porridge, but without the lumps. Easy to make in the microwave or with hot milk this kids' porridge gives your children a tasty warming start to the day. But the Ready brek oats can be used for so much more than just porridge. One look at the Ready brek and Weetabix website shows just how versatile these oats can be. From Ready brek breakfast muffins, to 'ginger-brek men', there's hundreds of ways you can make your cereal go further."

So, how do you customise your porridge or Ready brek? Maybe you add some bananas? Or do you prefer to add blueberries or raspberries? Perhaps honey is your usual addition? Whatever you add to your porridge, Ready brek would love to hear about how you keep breakfast time fun and healthy.

If you don't usually have porridge for breakfast, do you have any porridge based recipes? Perhaps you like to add porridge oats when you're baking cookies? Or maybe you'd rather use your porridge oats for flapjacks? Let Ready brek know what your favourite porridge based recipes are.

Every MNer who posts on this thread will go into a prize draw to win £250 from Ready brek and Weetabix.

Thanks,
MNHQ

Dried fruits and yoghurt strawberry flakes

Debs75 · 15/09/2014 18:17

I have porridge every day and my favourites are:
Blueberries
Pomegranate
Any berries frozen are a cheap choice
Stilton and apple for a more savoury breakfast
Chocolate spread also goes nice if no fruit in.

During summer I often do the oat soak with zero fat yogurt layered with fresh berries.

We don't eat Ready Brek but now DD1 is at University she has bought a couple of boxes for cheap hot brekkie

I never understand how porridge can be healthy Wink Wink Wink

My porridge is made with equal parts muscavado sugar to oats, and made purely with single cream. No water, no milk. And then a dollop of clotted cream on top

I only have it about twice a year, but

OH MY GOODNESS it's amazing

fourthandfinal · 15/09/2014 21:32

Ooooh, we love a bit of fresh porridge at the weekend - me: fruit (fresh or frozen) & maple syrup, DH: banana & lots of brown sugar, DC1 (7): as much brown sugar as we'll allow, DC2 (5): as much jam as she thinks she can get away with, DC3 (18 months): a bit of what everyone else had got please!

tinkertink2010 · 15/09/2014 21:40

Only a little bit of sugar! I like the taste of the porridge!

artex · 15/09/2014 21:42

Frozen berries cools it down enough to eat quickly in the morning!

RAFdad · 15/09/2014 21:48

I like it with some golden syrup, then mix in. Also I like it with 3/4 milk and 1/4 cream. Yum.

Genesgirl · 15/09/2014 21:50

Chopped walnuts, chopped banana and honey. Perfect breakfast :-)

artex · 15/09/2014 21:56

anggraeny · 16/09/2014 10:36

chopped bananas and honey

Cataline · 16/09/2014 12:59

I wish I liked porridge- especially after reading all these fabulous suggestions. I can't bear hot milk though. I do use oats in baking quite a lot - usually in banana cake. I also add a large handful of oats to veggie chilli- it works perfectly!

kimthomasandaimee · 16/09/2014 13:54

Honey and Blueberries _

fourmonthstogo · 16/09/2014 14:03

Frozen raspberries and blueberries, defrosted of course, with a squidge of maple syrup.

Gremlingirl · 16/09/2014 14:14

My children will happily polish off big bowls of porridge in the mornings if they are allowed to put cake sprinkles on the top. I figure the good in that outweighs the sugar and colourings in the hundreds and thousands!

melodycat · 16/09/2014 14:24

Cinnamon and raisins

LizzieMMM · 16/09/2014 14:35

My own home made marmalade

purpleskull · 16/09/2014 16:11

crayola88 · 16/09/2014 16:33

Blueberries! I just cant get enough!! And they are high in anti-oxidants too :D xx

Starlabear · 16/09/2014 16:59

A spoonful of hot chocolate (and a banana if I'm feeling healthy!!)

Smoosh · 16/09/2014 17:34

I love adding fresh fruit - especially berries :)

Solo · 16/09/2014 18:14

I have Ready Brek every day for breakfast and make it with water then add two dessert spoonfuls of full fat Lidls Turkish yoghurt. Yummy! BUT!! I have been told by the hospital that I have to go on a low fat diet :( so I will either have to cut the yoghurt out entirely, or maybe halve the amount .

I do also have porridge when the RB has run out, but it takes so much longer to prepare, so prefer RB. I make it with water and yoghurt again.
The Strawberry yoghurt is nice with it too, but it makes it sweeter and I prefer it not to be sweet.
My Mum makes porridge with sultanas and or currants. Dd loves it!
