We've been asked by Ready brek to find out about MNers' best porridge based recipes and healthy breakfast creations

Ready brek says "Coinciding with the launch of Ready brek's 'easy sachets' collection, we'd love to hear about how MNers customise their porridge. In tasty Original and delicious Chocolate and Gingerbread flavours, and made only from finely milled oats, vitamins and minerals, this hot oat cereal delivers all the benefits of an adult porridge, but without the lumps. Easy to make in the microwave or with hot milk this kids' porridge gives your children a tasty warming start to the day. But the Ready brek oats can be used for so much more than just porridge. One look at the Ready brek and Weetabix website shows just how versatile these oats can be. From Ready brek breakfast muffins, to 'ginger-brek men', there's hundreds of ways you can make your cereal go further."

So, how do you customise your porridge or Ready brek? Maybe you add some bananas? Or do you prefer to add blueberries or raspberries? Perhaps honey is your usual addition? Whatever you add to your porridge, Ready brek would love to hear about how you keep breakfast time fun and healthy.

If you don't usually have porridge for breakfast, do you have any porridge based recipes? Perhaps you like to add porridge oats when you're baking cookies? Or maybe you'd rather use your porridge oats for flapjacks? Let Ready brek know what your favourite porridge based recipes are.

Every MNer who posts on this thread will go into a prize draw to win £250 from Ready brek and Weetabix.

Thanks,
MNHQ

We love adding ground nuts (pistachios, almonds)brown sugar.

MerryMarigold · 16/09/2014 19:43

I like it with bananas - cooked. DC don't.

Sometimes put frozen berries in (cools it down).

Most often, some home made granola on the top of golden syrup sachets.

The gingerbread one sounds yummy. I will be trying that out on the DC (who love ginger).

Honey every time x

FeelingIrie · 16/09/2014 20:44

I add a tablespoon of mixed nuts, seeds and dried fruit, as well as a dollop of creme fraiche and either some honey or grated apple/chopped pear for sweetness. Just started 5.5 month old DD on baby porridge!

Komiji · 16/09/2014 20:50

I take cereals/porridge every morning as the first part of my breakfast, and normally I go for coco pops or fruitnfibre with milk (warm), and it tastes yum!

Minnibix · 16/09/2014 21:00

In the summer I make with part water and part milk and add blueberries and strawberries, delicious. In winter I use cinnamon and raisins

selloveday · 16/09/2014 21:02

Normally nothing, but as a special treat a dollop of Manuka Honey.

DirtyWeeRascal · 16/09/2014 21:03

mrbutt · 16/09/2014 22:45

All its needs is some honey !! :)

BubblingBlancmange · 16/09/2014 22:53

I'm not a porridge fan, but DS1 loves it for breakfast with a squirty honey picture drawn on the top. Certainly tests my art skills!

dizhin79 · 16/09/2014 23:21

when I were a lass I asked at a b&b for treacle porridge, not realising I'd been incorrectly calling golden syrup treacle for donkeys years! My porridge came out with a spiders web of treacle on it, looking fab, I was in shock that it wasn't my usual tasty, sweet syrup I think I ate round the treacle!!

Nowadays I usually have honey and banana or apricot and almond Grin

Frozennortherner · 17/09/2014 07:51

This has made me want porridge again in the mornings, actually. It's a winter morning breakfast. I like sprinkled cinnamon and sugar on mine. It's also lovely with bananas and yoghurt. I like adding oats to pastry and biscuits when I make them - they're better than just wheat.

sarah3875 · 17/09/2014 10:32

Honey, cinnamon and a few raisins. The kids love it too. x

Bsummers · 17/09/2014 13:08

The only thing I add is fruit, I love adding apple with some cinnamon, Banana is lovely too as it sweetens it up and it feels like there is sugar in there! I love Porridge as it's so healthy for you.

keshimonster · 17/09/2014 13:43

A little sprinkle of sugar

katieskatie1982 · 17/09/2014 13:50

I add fruit and honey. All sorts of fruit from blueberries to bananas! xx

Flufflewuffle · 17/09/2014 13:54

I love honey or sweetener on my porridge. Delicious!

BigglesFliesUndone · 17/09/2014 14:14

I have started eating porridge recently as it is easy quick and it really does stop me snacking in the morning! dd (8) loves it too - with bananas or honey - and I think it is great with blueberries! Boring but brilliant.

FavaBeanPyramidScheme · 17/09/2014 15:22

Brown sugar and evaporated milk
Brown sugar and cornflakes
White bread

Mmmmmmm carbs.

chickensandbees · 17/09/2014 16:34

Granola, yoghurt (full fat) and honey. Delicious.

When I'm being slightly healthier I leave off the yogurt. I absolutely cannot do without honey though.

We have porridge every morning and the DDs have theirs with just honey, or a sprinkling of cherrios and honey and or sometimes grapes or strawberries as well.

We used to have bananas on granola/yogurt combo as well....not sure why that has changed?!

Also use porridge oats for flapjacks.....gorgeous and they are in the home-made granola as well.

Porridge is the food of the gods!
