We've been asked by Ready brek to find out about MNers' best porridge based recipes and healthy breakfast creations

Ready brek says "Coinciding with the launch of Ready brek's 'easy sachets' collection, we'd love to hear about how MNers customise their porridge. In tasty Original and delicious Chocolate and Gingerbread flavours, and made only from finely milled oats, vitamins and minerals, this hot oat cereal delivers all the benefits of an adult porridge, but without the lumps. Easy to make in the microwave or with hot milk this kids' porridge gives your children a tasty warming start to the day. But the Ready brek oats can be used for so much more than just porridge. One look at the Ready brek and Weetabix website shows just how versatile these oats can be. From Ready brek breakfast muffins, to 'ginger-brek men', there's hundreds of ways you can make your cereal go further."

So, how do you customise your porridge or Ready brek? Maybe you add some bananas? Or do you prefer to add blueberries or raspberries? Perhaps honey is your usual addition? Whatever you add to your porridge, Ready brek would love to hear about how you keep breakfast time fun and healthy.

If you don't usually have porridge for breakfast, do you have any porridge based recipes? Perhaps you like to add porridge oats when you're baking cookies? Or maybe you'd rather use your porridge oats for flapjacks? Let Ready brek know what your favourite porridge based recipes are.

Every MNer who posts on this thread will go into a prize draw to win £250 from Ready brek and Weetabix.

Thanks,
MNHQ

Salty porridge with either golden syrup or brown sugar and cinnamon. If I'm feeling really nostalgic I'll have sugar and milk (or cream as I used to pinch the top of the milk as a child and that doesn't exist any more Sad)

Readybrek has a difference texture though so doesn't work with the same toppings - have to use sauces with those, usually either toffee or caramel. I like the flavoured individual ones - apple and cinnamon, yum.

blueberries, a little vanilla yogurt, a little golden syrup, any old kind of fruit really, bananas, brown sugar, cinnamon.... whatever strikes me as tasty on any particular day

sealight123 · 11/09/2014 12:45

Golden Syrup or Honey mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmhhhhhhhhhmmmmm

FreshorangeforDd · 11/09/2014 12:45

Creature of habit....plain Greek yogurt, banana, honey and cinnamon.

Double yum!

FreshorangeforDd · 11/09/2014 12:47

We also routinely use porridge oats for Apple crumble....or crisp as our Canadian recipe describes it.

Also double yum!

I love my porridge in the morning! I put little slices of banana through it, some golden syrup and some sultanas. mmm!

WaxyBean · 11/09/2014 12:54

I make porridge with almond milk and usually add a variety of seeds, nuts and fresh fruit. Banana, blueberry, Brazil nut and sunflower seed is one of my favourites.

My kids like to dip fresh fruit in hot porridge. My youngest has raisins in it and my eldest likes a swirl of hm jam (currently plum and vanilla).

RhinosAreFatUnicorns · 11/09/2014 12:54

Usually nothing, but at the moment with the local hedgerows full of blackberries, we have so many, I am using them in everything.

I have entirely failed to convince my DC about porridge, they won't touch the stuff. I have tried everything from readybrek to homemade and additions ranging from maple syrup to chocolate (which is revolting, btw).

I have discovered, though, that if I chuck oats, milk, water, brown sugar and sometimes raisins and/or vanilla in the rice cooker before school run then there is yummy porridge waiting for me when I get back, to eat before I start work.

The rice cooker also has a timer so can be put on the night before. I plan to try this and see if I can convince the DC to try porridge again.

I also used to use ready brek (or some own brand which was suitable for milk allergies) in lots of things to up the calcium intake of my milk allergic child. I think I used it to replace some of the flour in cakes, muffins, pancakes, flapjacks etc. A particular favourite of mine (though not suitable for my son as it also contains eggs which he is allergic to) was banana pancakes made with ready brek, pureed banana, and whisked egg, which I then fried in coconut oil and topped with golden syrup!

Sweetasstevia · 11/09/2014 13:04

Teaspoon of honey and blueberries.

supergreenuk · 11/09/2014 13:51

Raisins with no sugar.
Cinnamon & raisins.

bjennymoore · 11/09/2014 15:24

I have porridge every morning made with milk, cooked in the microwave, and add honey to the top

CK12232 · 11/09/2014 16:10

Usually jam, but sometimes I'll push the boat out and add nutella, honey, golden syrup.. just about anything

BRILLBY · 11/09/2014 16:36

Home-made yogurt & frozen winter/summer fruits

zanashar · 11/09/2014 16:41

Chopped almonds, honey and ground flaxseed

Jims · 11/09/2014 16:44

All the boys in the house eat porridge with raisins.

We have two pots of honey in the house from when my Dad visits - just for his porridge.

VirginiaWoofs · 11/09/2014 16:46

Peanut butter, Greek yoghurt and hot berries! (Grapes, cherries and blueberries work well)

Rigbyroo · 11/09/2014 16:47

I love a sprinkling of sugar or for a treat, chocolate buttons!

Nomio23 · 11/09/2014 18:08

Maple syrup. Nyom!

dorotheamink · 11/09/2014 18:13

I love Ready Brek in the cooler months and make it with semi-skimmed milk and then a larger than is healthy spoonful of muscavado dark brown sugar. I am just starting to wean my little boy so when the time is right, he can try some too. Without the sugar!

mishknight · 11/09/2014 18:59

mascavado sugar

bigglesgoggles · 11/09/2014 19:07

Mmmmmmmm .... porridge...

Chopped banana into the porridge (made with milk) as it heats.
Heat up some blueberries in a dash of water (for more juice).
When porridge ready, spoon the just-bursting blueberries on top.
Finish off with a drizzly swirl of honey over all of it.

Mmmmmmmm.....
