We've been asked by Ready brek to find out about MNers' best porridge based recipes and healthy breakfast creations

Ready brek says "Coinciding with the launch of Ready brek's 'easy sachets' collection, we'd love to hear about how MNers customise their porridge. In tasty Original and delicious Chocolate and Gingerbread flavours, and made only from finely milled oats, vitamins and minerals, this hot oat cereal delivers all the benefits of an adult porridge, but without the lumps. Easy to make in the microwave or with hot milk this kids' porridge gives your children a tasty warming start to the day. But the Ready brek oats can be used for so much more than just porridge. One look at the Ready brek and Weetabix website shows just how versatile these oats can be. From Ready brek breakfast muffins, to 'ginger-brek men', there's hundreds of ways you can make your cereal go further."

So, how do you customise your porridge or Ready brek? Maybe you add some bananas? Or do you prefer to add blueberries or raspberries? Perhaps honey is your usual addition? Whatever you add to your porridge, Ready brek would love to hear about how you keep breakfast time fun and healthy.

If you don't usually have porridge for breakfast, do you have any porridge based recipes? Perhaps you like to add porridge oats when you're baking cookies? Or maybe you'd rather use your porridge oats for flapjacks? Let Ready brek know what your favourite porridge based recipes are.

Every MNer who posts on this thread will go into a prize draw to win £250 from Ready brek and Weetabix.

Thanks,
MNHQ

My little girl enjoys honey and banana in her porridge, it's a great way to get lots of goodness into her. She is 14 months now and has been having ready break for the last few months. We also make raisin, oat & cinnamon biscuits and honey flapjacks. I try and use honey rather than golden syrup as perhaps is a bit better for her? I always make biscuits rather than buy and oats are the way to go!

Porridge is just plain in our house. However, I did make a lovely oat and apple cake a year or two ago. I should dig out the recipe again!

nushcar · 11/09/2014 19:48

Walnuts, berries of any kind, flaxseed and Manuka honey

kateandme · 11/09/2014 19:53

i love my ready brek plain and sprinkled with sugar.
though when i was younger i loved the addition of chocolate buttons to stire through, stewed apple, golden syrup.
the kiddies love as a treat a packet of tuti fruities!!very rare dont hound me.and smarties.that the end of the week dabble they get to pick something random to try in it.
trying roasting strawberries and raspberries in the oven for a little while, the sprinkle with a mix of oats and sugar and a bit of flour if needs and then crisp up.we serve this with yoghurt, ice, cream or even white chocolate melted on top just as it comes out the oven so it melts in.
oats in good old yorkshire gingerbread and parkin are some of the best recipes.

Bankholidaybaby · 11/09/2014 21:54

I add puréed or dried fruit. Yum!

MyNameIsInigoMontoya · 11/09/2014 21:55

Golden syrup. Although I fancy trying crystallized ginger now!

BlueEyeshadow · 11/09/2014 22:03

The boys like sultanas. DS2 occasionally has golden syrup for a treat. I like cinnamon and sultanans, or brown sugar.

starfishmummy · 11/09/2014 22:08

It varies. Sometimes it will be fruit - blueberries usually. Tinned pears are surprisingly nice! Somedays I will add cinnamon instead, ormlerhaos just golden syrup or sugar.....

Charlene1 · 11/09/2014 22:08

I add sugar

blueberryboybait · 11/09/2014 22:10

I have one child who will only eat it with raisins the other will eat any combo current favourites are cherry jam and a sprinkle of crushed amaretti biscuits or fresh blackberries and grated apple. But our flavour range goes from simple brown sugar and butter to crumbled chocolate brownie in birthday porridge.

Lvm2013mk · 11/09/2014 22:14

Strawberry Jam :)

I add a teaspoon of local honey to my porridge; it helps relieve the hay fever symptoms too!

NicNak71 · 12/09/2014 00:24

Raisins, sultanas and a swirl of maple syrup

tompob1 · 12/09/2014 08:34

twotinyterrors · 12/09/2014 09:40
