We've been asked by Ready brek to find out about MNers' best porridge based recipes and healthy breakfast creations

Ready brek says "Coinciding with the launch of Ready brek's 'easy sachets' collection, we'd love to hear about how MNers customise their porridge. In tasty Original and delicious Chocolate and Gingerbread flavours, and made only from finely milled oats, vitamins and minerals, this hot oat cereal delivers all the benefits of an adult porridge, but without the lumps. Easy to make in the microwave or with hot milk this kids' porridge gives your children a tasty warming start to the day. But the Ready brek oats can be used for so much more than just porridge. One look at the Ready brek and Weetabix website shows just how versatile these oats can be. From Ready brek breakfast muffins, to 'ginger-brek men', there's hundreds of ways you can make your cereal go further."

So, how do you customise your porridge or Ready brek? Maybe you add some bananas? Or do you prefer to add blueberries or raspberries? Perhaps honey is your usual addition? Whatever you add to your porridge, Ready brek would love to hear about how you keep breakfast time fun and healthy.

If you don't usually have porridge for breakfast, do you have any porridge based recipes? Perhaps you like to add porridge oats when you're baking cookies? Or maybe you'd rather use your porridge oats for flapjacks? Let Ready brek know what your favourite porridge based recipes are.

Every MNer who posts on this thread will go into a prize draw to win £250 from Ready brek and Weetabix.

Thanks,
MNHQ

Salt and pepper.... Sounds odd but gives it a savoury taste rather than sweet taste.

jilliang · 10/09/2014 19:18

Simply good old sugar

NelAllan · 10/09/2014 19:19

I like to make my porridge with almond milk and I add yogurt, seeds and fruit.

RooTwo · 10/09/2014 19:19

YUM all these posts are making me hungry! My current favourite porridge topping is homemade plum compote (just plums stewed with bit of orange juice/sugar/star anise) with flaked almonds and demerera sugar. I think I like it because it tastes a bit like Bakewell tart :)

1033MICHELLE · 10/09/2014 19:23

I love to add raisins to make it yummy

WaxyDaisy · 10/09/2014 19:28

Can't beat honey!

UncrushedParsley · 10/09/2014 19:42

Maple syrup. Yum.

Purplehonesty · 10/09/2014 19:44

Stewed fruit if I have some, frozen berries like rasps and blackcurrant which cools it down nicely for the kids.
Also syrup for me sometimes, the kids like it with banana too.
Nothing too fancy here its good as it is really!

mrpeterhall · 10/09/2014 19:58

Anything other than just sugar and it's no longer 'porridge' in my eyes

heyday · 10/09/2014 20:59

Dried apricots and blueberries

AlfieandAnnieRose · 10/09/2014 21:10

I like adding honey to my Ready Brek and some chopped up strawberries. Yum!

custardcream1000 · 10/09/2014 22:18

In the winter I like warm porridge with Jam or cinnamon, and in the summer I have cold porridge with nuts, seeds and dried apricot.

cungryhatterpillar · 10/09/2014 23:20

Porridge toppings at my house are:

Maple syrup
Golden syrup
Molasses sugar
White sugar
Chopped dried apricots

That's about it. Maple syrup is pretty expensive so we don't buy it very often even though it's everyone's favourite. Usually golden syrup or molasses that the kids have.

MsMarple · 10/09/2014 23:33

We have cinnamon on our porridge, and a little bit of cream stirred in too.

TedGlen · 11/09/2014 01:08

Raisins and a big dollop of Nutella for me. DH likes evaporated milk and golden syrup.

overthemill · 11/09/2014 01:11

Runny honey and sesame seeds.

ColdCottage · 11/09/2014 02:33

Freshly chopped figs from my neighbours garden and a drizzle of runny honey. Smile

Sweetmotherfudger · 11/09/2014 05:00

I make a berry compote and add pistachios and seeds for a but if texture. It's delicious!

zanashar · 11/09/2014 05:43

Runny honey, ground flaxseed and sometimes chopped mixed nuts.

Uptheairymountain · 11/09/2014 06:54

The sachets sound like a great idea.

Lots of each: whole milk, mixed dried fruit, almonds and/or brazil nuts, milled linseed (pink apple one from Lidl is really nice) and cinnamon. Sometimes a whole chopped apple as well. Keeps me going nicely, along with a banana, handful of dried apricots and dates and 2 cups of tea!

TwentiethCenturyGirl · 11/09/2014 07:04

I add raisins and honey to mine and my daughter's. DH adds cornflakes to his - bizarre...

Marg2k8 · 11/09/2014 09:09

I vary it. Sometimes sliced banana, sometimes strawberries or blueberries. Sometimes honey.

TobyLerone · 11/09/2014 09:12

DD (8mo) has her porridge with raisins or chopped plum.

candish63 · 11/09/2014 09:39

I just add a spoonful of sugar, No messing for a busy mum

theno1dj · 11/09/2014 10:32

I always put raisins in for a bit of extra taste.
