We've been asked by Ready brek to find out about MNers' best porridge based recipes and healthy breakfast creations

Ready brek says "Coinciding with the launch of Ready brek's 'easy sachets' collection, we'd love to hear about how MNers customise their porridge. In tasty Original and delicious Chocolate and Gingerbread flavours, and made only from finely milled oats, vitamins and minerals, this hot oat cereal delivers all the benefits of an adult porridge, but without the lumps. Easy to make in the microwave or with hot milk this kids' porridge gives your children a tasty warming start to the day. But the Ready brek oats can be used for so much more than just porridge. One look at the Ready brek and Weetabix website shows just how versatile these oats can be. From Ready brek breakfast muffins, to 'ginger-brek men', there's hundreds of ways you can make your cereal go further."

So, how do you customise your porridge or Ready brek? Maybe you add some bananas? Or do you prefer to add blueberries or raspberries? Perhaps honey is your usual addition? Whatever you add to your porridge, Ready brek would love to hear about how you keep breakfast time fun and healthy.

If you don't usually have porridge for breakfast, do you have any porridge based recipes? Perhaps you like to add porridge oats when you're baking cookies? Or maybe you'd rather use your porridge oats for flapjacks? Let Ready brek know what your favourite porridge based recipes are.

Every MNer who posts on this thread will go into a prize draw to win £250 from Ready brek and Weetabix.

Thanks,
MNHQ

I just add sugar Smile

FiloPasty · 10/09/2014 10:19

Usually strawberries & bananas with a drizzle of honey, but in the winter I do apple and cinnamon and sometimes blackberries if we find any :)

BoBoo · 10/09/2014 10:23

Banana, maple syrup and some kind of seeds.

Mouldypineapple · 10/09/2014 10:33

Raisins! Or as DD calls them yay-yays. She is 4 and can say it properly now but it's kind of stuck from when she was younger and we all find it kind of cute! (And we all say it too)

Dh has raisins/sultanas and chopped banana. Not exciting but quite tasty.

YD has a squeeze of runny honey on hers (made with milk). I'm not a sweets person so make mine with water and add tomato puree and a pinch of dried herbs. Sounds odd, tastes like oaty soup.

ChaffinchOfMegalolz · 10/09/2014 10:47

I love porridge for breakfast - it's so nice to stop and have something warm. I also bake oaty biscuits - a simple biscuit recipe where you roll the 'balls' in oats. delicious.

Porridge-wise I love trying all of the different flavours - liking apple and blueberry at the moment.. also sometimes add seeds, or even a handful of muesli.
the tomato puree and herbs really intrigues me!

I also love a squidge of maple syrup, at times, and it was in a Jilly Cooper novel I think that a character had porridge with a big spoonful of golden syrup and a huge dollop of whipped cream! awesome. hmm. think I want some more now.........

sofieellis · 10/09/2014 10:53

Asda's own granulated sweetener and skimmed milk. It's lovely - still makes it creamy and sweet, but without all the calories!

Justtrying · 10/09/2014 11:22

A tiny sprinkling of demera sugar and a splash of cold milk, is my favorite. But i will sometimes add blueberries or raspberrys or top with stewed damsons.
Dd and i have just started on homemade porridge, made with semi skimmed milk this week. So much nicer than instant pots ive been eating the last few winters.

mamalino · 10/09/2014 11:49

I make porridge with half cup oats, half cup water and half cup milk and tiny bit of salt. Cook until thick. Sprinkle with Demerara sugar and make a little well in the middle, into the well add a big blob of thick double cream. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

skyeskyeskye · 10/09/2014 11:51

I add either raspberry jam or honey to my porridge.

very tasty

DoJo · 10/09/2014 13:32

I love it with toddler soya milk and a squeeze of golden syrup (although I have been known to eat most of it before cooking and have to mash the rest around to make it look like a proper bowlful!

sarah861421 · 10/09/2014 14:11

a little drop of honey, and a large handful of sultanas

Kendodd · 10/09/2014 14:13

Dried fruit or bananas and golden syrup.

baby890 · 10/09/2014 14:22

Bananas usually or Nutella as a treat!

happysouls · 10/09/2014 15:00

laurapotz · 10/09/2014 16:27

Porridge is a special treat for me as I'm on a low carb diet. But I do like a bowl of proper porridge with lots of golden syrup as a special treat.
