We've been asked by Ready brek to find out about MNers' best porridge based recipes and healthy breakfast creations

Ready brek says "Coinciding with the launch of Ready brek's 'easy sachets' collection, we'd love to hear about how MNers customise their porridge. In tasty Original and delicious Chocolate and Gingerbread flavours, and made only from finely milled oats, vitamins and minerals, this hot oat cereal delivers all the benefits of an adult porridge, but without the lumps. Easy to make in the microwave or with hot milk this kids' porridge gives your children a tasty warming start to the day. But the Ready brek oats can be used for so much more than just porridge. One look at the Ready brek and Weetabix website shows just how versatile these oats can be. From Ready brek breakfast muffins, to 'ginger-brek men', there's hundreds of ways you can make your cereal go further."

So, how do you customise your porridge or Ready brek? Maybe you add some bananas? Or do you prefer to add blueberries or raspberries? Perhaps honey is your usual addition? Whatever you add to your porridge, Ready brek would love to hear about how you keep breakfast time fun and healthy.

If you don't usually have porridge for breakfast, do you have any porridge based recipes? Perhaps you like to add porridge oats when you're baking cookies? Or maybe you'd rather use your porridge oats for flapjacks? Let Ready brek know what your favourite porridge based recipes are.

Every MNer who posts on this thread will go into a prize draw to win £250 from Ready brek and Weetabix.

Thanks,
MNHQ

I add raspberries and chopped up strawberries to porridge. Sometimes a sprinkling of cinnamon and sugar, sometimes golden syrup. I don't eat Ready Brek though, only porridge made with oats.

GillianY1 · 09/09/2014 23:43

I add honey to my porridge

nicsal05 · 09/09/2014 23:55

I add Honey to porridge or rather my husband does, apparently its "daddy's Special porridge" according to our 4 year old daughter !

RockinHippy · 10/09/2014 00:45

Made with water, linseeds stirred through & top off with a drizzle of maple syrup

wendybrown · 10/09/2014 01:46

water, salt, portidge, 2 mins in microwave, add milk and eat!

RocksRCool · 10/09/2014 01:54

Water, brown Demerara sugar and/or cinnamon. Delicious. Smile

ukbliss2012 · 10/09/2014 02:18

Can't beat milk and sugar!

InspiredbyLife · 10/09/2014 02:59

whiskey (or anything similar - Glayva/Drambuie/Baileys) is lovely

adults only of course :)

if you are feeling especially naughty, also a dash of cream

ScrambledEggAndToast · 10/09/2014 06:15

Bananas and syrup for me, really lovely and fills me up until lunchtime.

LetticeKnollys · 10/09/2014 06:21

Strawberries and/or blueberries. If I don't have those I just squirt some honey in instead!

Meglet · 10/09/2014 07:12

I've got one of those funky Sistema microwaveable soup mugs for my porridge.

I use milk, sugar and linseeds.

FawcettSA · 10/09/2014 07:13

Fresh blueberries in summer, dried blueberries in winter - superfood :)

Lovewhereilive · 10/09/2014 07:19

My kids like it with Nutella added to it. Am low-carbing but if I wasn't, I would like it with blueberries.

Bubbles85 · 10/09/2014 07:25

I live adding banana and kiwi strangely!

angelinlace · 10/09/2014 08:17

Toasted flaked Almonds and a drizzle of runny honey. Divine

Albiebee · 10/09/2014 08:36

Erm, I have Ready Brek every day with a spoonful of Nutella swirled in Blush
in my defence it's delicious and I don't have many other treats.

DD who is 9 months has it with homemade apple puree, much healthier.

GreatAuntDinah · 10/09/2014 08:51

Rhubarb compote. Its tartness complements the creamy porridge perfectly.

iwantgin · 10/09/2014 08:58

I like black treacle. I make my porridge with water (in a pan), but swirl a little milk around the edges once in the bowl and it sort of floats.

DH likes his made in the microwave - with water. His toppings of choice are either golden syrup, or cinnamon and raisins.

VixStarr · 10/09/2014 09:05

I soak my oats the night before with milk, cinnamon, grounded almonds and banana. For a special treat we soak oats in apple juice, cinnamon and water overnight ( river cottage recipe for toddlers) . Sometimes i puree a big batch of apples and blackberries, especially at this time of year and add it. The kids wolf it down. Sometimes they just have it plain with milk, or depending on what i have chopped apricots, a bit of honey.

I use oats to make cheese scones and crumble and sometimes i add it to playdough to give the boys a different texture to mess around with.

slalomsuki · 10/09/2014 09:14

If it's the kids then it's either sugar or blueberries, if it's me on a weekday it's sugar or occasionally plain.

Like this morning I sometimes go to Waitrose and have it with their maple syrup.
Once at a hotel it was served with brown sugar, cream and whisky. That combination was far and away the best start to the day.

ipswichwitch · 10/09/2014 09:36

DS1 usually gets a bit of jam in his ready brek on a weekend. Apart from the other Saturday when I realised we ran out of jam, so I improvised and stuck a bit of cranberry sauce in it. He never noticed (inhales his porridge, that one!) and a potential drama was averted.
I like cinnamon on mine, and DS2 just takes it as it comes, usually eating all his, plus half of mine and whatever DS1 leaves behind (not much!)

fusspot66 · 10/09/2014 09:49

Sultanas of course.
Sometimes yogurt and honey
Sometimes seeds

bringans · 10/09/2014 09:53

Im simple :) Banana's and Honey.

tabbaz123 · 10/09/2014 09:53

I am not a huge porridge for breakfast fan but on the odd occasion that I have it I adore a smidge of Maple Syrup or Golden Syrup. That said I do enjoy baking with oats and making flapjacks etc.

cagsd · 10/09/2014 09:56

Jam for me - yum.

My nana used to make porridge with oats and water and salt - absolutely vile stuff! But I do love my Ready Brek with jam in the winter :)
