We've been asked by Ready brek to find out about MNers' best porridge based recipes and healthy breakfast creations

Ready brek says "Coinciding with the launch of Ready brek's 'easy sachets' collection, we'd love to hear about how MNers customise their porridge. In tasty Original and delicious Chocolate and Gingerbread flavours, and made only from finely milled oats, vitamins and minerals, this hot oat cereal delivers all the benefits of an adult porridge, but without the lumps. Easy to make in the microwave or with hot milk this kids' porridge gives your children a tasty warming start to the day. But the Ready brek oats can be used for so much more than just porridge. One look at the Ready brek and Weetabix website shows just how versatile these oats can be. From Ready brek breakfast muffins, to 'ginger-brek men', there's hundreds of ways you can make your cereal go further."

So, how do you customise your porridge or Ready brek? Maybe you add some bananas? Or do you prefer to add blueberries or raspberries? Perhaps honey is your usual addition? Whatever you add to your porridge, Ready brek would love to hear about how you keep breakfast time fun and healthy.

If you don't usually have porridge for breakfast, do you have any porridge based recipes? Perhaps you like to add porridge oats when you're baking cookies? Or maybe you'd rather use your porridge oats for flapjacks? Let Ready brek know what your favourite porridge based recipes are.

Every MNer who posts on this thread will go into a prize draw to win £250 from Ready brek and Weetabix.

Thanks,
MNHQ

I've only just started having porridge recently - I thought I didn't like it but now I don't know why! I have it with half milk (cows or rice milk is good too) half water, salt, raisins and golden syrup. Sometimes I'll add other berries too and a pinch of cinnamon. We all love porridge in our house now, even 3 year old DS (who likes abney and teal, and of course they eat it!).

We also use oats for flapjack (made with cocoa and raisins for chocolaty treat) and in crumble for extra crunch.

The kids like honey or jam. I'd never thought of ginger, that sounds good...

dragon60 · 09/09/2014 21:11

I only have half a teaspoon of sugar, but blueberries are popular with the children

letsgetreadytoramble · 09/09/2014 21:13

Sugar and strawberries (sweet tooth here.) I like to make a shell of sugar over the hot porridge - not healthy but really tasty. Tried it with salt once a la the Scottish way - never again!

I always use full fat milk or yoghurt but also like to add chopped dates and orange zest and crushed walnuts or the usual cinnamon and bananas or apples and fresh blueberries or strawberries.

Now I'm starving I love porridge, cereal in fact if I was on death row I would want porridge with yoghurt as my last meal ever.

Baked oatmeal , with coconut milk, vanilla essence, blueberries, topped with toasted flaked almonds, served with soya cream.

Baked oatmeal.. Mix oatmeal with egg, dried cranberries, big dollop of almond butter, cinnamon, some milk. Bake, and slice, great straight from the oven, wonderful sliced and eaten cold with a cup of tea.

Oatmeal mixed with almond milk, baked with coconut oil, macademia nuts and cacao nibs.

littleme96 · 09/09/2014 21:32

Golden syrup is a favourite in our house!

flamingtoaster · 09/09/2014 21:38

I always have sliced banana on my porridge. Delcious and the combination really sets me up for the day.

Glitterfairys · 09/09/2014 21:49

Grated apple and cinnamon or sometimes nutmeg Smile

gk6277 · 09/09/2014 21:53

Maple syrup, yum !

Starlingsintheslipstream · 09/09/2014 22:04

Just honey for me, jam for the kids.
I like the sachets of porridge as a time saver but keep thinking I should just use proper oats for economy. I have them in the house for making flapjacks but don't use them for actual porridge.

somersetsinger · 09/09/2014 22:25

Just honey, or sugar if we've run out. And any tempting leftovers (e.g. cream, fruit).

BL0SS0M · 09/09/2014 22:38

sugar, salt and milk

ColouringInQueen · 09/09/2014 22:38

A teaspoon on blackcurrant jam for me - delicious! But for the kids it has to be golden syrup....

PerditaXDream · 09/09/2014 23:01

I make mine with water and a pinch of salt, and add raspberries blueberries and/or strawberries, a little golden syrup and a dash of milk.

cece · 09/09/2014 23:06

Brown sugar and then leave it a bit so it melts. Yum.

Deckmyballs · 09/09/2014 23:12

I love adding strawberries to porridge, the kids love a spot of honey in theirs!

Also like baking oat cookies with rolled oats - yummy!

angela25rose · 09/09/2014 23:16

boptanana · 09/09/2014 23:18

Golden syrup, blueberries and bananas in our house!

kerryv · 09/09/2014 23:26

SUGAR. I know it's wrong but it tastes good.

emella · 09/09/2014 23:32

I usually add oats to recipes, rather than having it with porridge; I'd probably only add cinnamon to porridge, personally not a fan of it and only have it every so often. I normally use oats in recipes such as flapjacks, apple crumble etc. Sometimes in cakes, just to make them a bit healthier. I don't know whether this is weird, but I've always added oats to my smoothie's too.
