We've been asked by Ready brek to find out about MNers' best porridge based recipes and healthy breakfast creations

Ready brek says "Coinciding with the launch of Ready brek's 'easy sachets' collection, we'd love to hear about how MNers customise their porridge. In tasty Original and delicious Chocolate and Gingerbread flavours, and made only from finely milled oats, vitamins and minerals, this hot oat cereal delivers all the benefits of an adult porridge, but without the lumps. Easy to make in the microwave or with hot milk this kids' porridge gives your children a tasty warming start to the day. But the Ready brek oats can be used for so much more than just porridge. One look at the Ready brek and Weetabix website shows just how versatile these oats can be. From Ready brek breakfast muffins, to 'ginger-brek men', there's hundreds of ways you can make your cereal go further."

So, how do you customise your porridge or Ready brek? Maybe you add some bananas? Or do you prefer to add blueberries or raspberries? Perhaps honey is your usual addition? Whatever you add to your porridge, Ready brek would love to hear about how you keep breakfast time fun and healthy.

If you don't usually have porridge for breakfast, do you have any porridge based recipes? Perhaps you like to add porridge oats when you're baking cookies? Or maybe you'd rather use your porridge oats for flapjacks? Let Ready brek know what your favourite porridge based recipes are.

Every MNer who posts on this thread will go into a prize draw to win £250 from Ready brek and Weetabix.

Thanks,
MNHQ

seeingdouble2 · 09/09/2014 15:54

just good old white sugar, I love it when its melts!

momofmonster · 09/09/2014 15:55

Always honey to sweeten. Sometimes throw in a few blueberries or strawberries, dependant on what we have

QuintessentiallyQS · 09/09/2014 15:57

My favourite porridge is like a rice pudding. Eaten hot, with a dollop of butter in the middle (which of course will MELT - YUM!) sprinkling of sugar, and a generous sprinkling of cinnamon. My husband will add maple syrup on top, and sometimes blueberries. But, butter, sugar and cinnamon will do for me and our sons!

rhubarb and ginger jam

sportfan2013 · 09/09/2014 16:13

I always have jam with porridge or I will mix apples, raisins an d cherries. I sometimes like having caramel or chocolate syrup over my porridge if I fancy having a really sweet porridge.

shroney · 09/09/2014 16:21

I add sesame and flax seeds and either strawberries or blueberries

Gbear0382 · 09/09/2014 16:22

jimblejambles · 09/09/2014 16:49

Dd has honey or apple purée

VictoriaSt · 09/09/2014 17:24

frozen blueberries :D

PlanetArghhh · 09/09/2014 17:32

We sometimes make porridge with water and occasionally with full cream milk. Whichever way, we make it with 1 part organic jumbo oats to 2 parts water or milk and usually add:

cinnamon and stewed apple

honey and lemon curd (swirled, it's delicious!)

squashed strawberries and a tiny drop of vanilla extract

blueberry jam

Porridge is a staple winter breakfast in our house so it's nice to ring the changes.

sugar1975 · 09/09/2014 17:40

Jam or Cinnamon is my favourite topping to add :)

Ritakd · 09/09/2014 17:41

Caly2014 · 09/09/2014 18:20

I love honey on top of porridge. It's not the healthiest of options but it satisfies my sweet tooth.

Vajazzler · 09/09/2014 18:25

Chopped banana and a spoon of Nutella is favored by all members of our household. Yum!

Oldbiddywilkins · 09/09/2014 18:27

I add honey, delicious and good for you.

SaigonSaigon · 09/09/2014 18:27

Usually honey - lots!

Sometimes Golden Syrup or sliced bananas.

Oats are great as part of a crumble mix too. I usually add to this for a crunchy and healthy addition

xmasplanner · 09/09/2014 18:28

Dd and I add a large handful of frozen raspberries to piping hot porridge. The raspberries quickly melt and add delicious, tangy flavour to the porridge - yum!

ilovemovies · 09/09/2014 18:29

BooRadders · 09/09/2014 18:34

I love porridge.... I make it with water and add brown sugar plus fresh blueberries/raspberries/strawberries, then cook. Afterwards I add walnuts, seeds and milled linseed.
Love the sound of lemon curd in it!
