To celebrate the launch of the new Vodafone family price plan - Red+ - we have developed a new fun quiz to find out what kind of sharent you are!

What’s a sharent we hear you say…well it’s all about your attitude to sharing photos and updates of your DC online. Are you shary-savvy, a Shary Mary, shary-wary – or totes off the grid?
Take the short quiz now to find out

Vodafone say “For some parents, the internet can seem like a bit of minefield and with new technology emerging all the time, it can be hard to stay up to date. If that sounds like you, worry not. Vodafone has put together some guides and articles to help parents maintain control and keep the family safe – find out more here
Vodafone has also launched a new plan, designed specifically for families. Red+ gives you one data allowance to share and you can even cap your kids’ data so they don't go over their limit. You'll get one simple bill for all devices, saving you money compared to individual plans, and you'll also get unlimited calls and texts”

Find out more at vodafone.co.uk/redplus.

Please take a few minutes to do the quiz and return to this thread to post your sharenting result – let Vodafone know on this thread what it is and what you think and you’ll be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £250 John Lewis voucher.

The Vodafone Digital Parenting Guide can be found here: www.vodafone.co.uk/family

Thanks and good luck

I am share savvy too. Although it does take a while for me to "get" the latest things, I hope to instill a waryness in my DCs as I'm very cynical about online personas.

IamGrimalkin · 17/08/2014 19:08

Imt share savvy. I think that's because my dh knows all about computers and my ds is following in his footsteps and becoming up to date with technology as he grows older.

I don't want to be left behind! :-)

culturemulcher · 17/08/2014 19:12

Share-y wary.

It's true, but not because I need 'help to know when to dive in' but because I AM genuinely wary about sharing photos online.

PurplePidjin · 17/08/2014 19:43

Answering for one set of grandparents (my folks up the road) I got Off The Grid. Answering for the others (my ILs a couple of hours away) I got Share Savvy - because I tend to WhatsApp my SIL so they can all see what their nephew/cousin is up to.

And we only have one laptop each because DS isn't even 2 yet so why does he need to go on the internet Confused

thewomaninwhite · 17/08/2014 20:02

You are share-y wary

You find the whole world of social media a bit anxiety-inducing - and need help knowing where to dive in.

I am not a FB fan, perhaps that is why. Don't even go there with Twitter or Instagram.

Fluffyemenent · 17/08/2014 20:25

Share savvy. Who knew?

gildedlily · 17/08/2014 21:40

I'm off the grid. It's a bit of a joke amongst certain friends that I have thus far avoided Facebook, use pinterest as a personal scrapbook but don't share and still own an actual diary. I don't care I love the lowfi life but guess I need to keep a bit up-to-date so I'm one step ahead of my children and feel confident that I can give them sensible advise about staying safe online.

Hobnobissupersweet · 17/08/2014 21:56

Allegedly share-y wary
Hmm
Was literally using the internet before it was invented, it was called JANET in those days and was an academic thing.
Quite happy with my dcs use and my monitoring of them on it.

WonderWomansSister · 17/08/2014 22:07

I'm share-savvy apparently, which I think is probably right. I enjoy using social media but am wary about what I post about and how much of my and my family's lives I share, in particular my children - it's up to them what they want about themselves out there, not me.

sharingeverythingtwice · 17/08/2014 22:12

I'm share savvy apparently, probably true, I'd share more but worry about how I come across, really nervous of appearing boasty.

Iggly · 17/08/2014 22:28

Share y wary. I'm not anxious as such - don't need to tell the world everything via internet!

KateOxford · 17/08/2014 22:43

I got share y wary. I agree to some extent but it's not really that I need help with social media more that I find it a bit tedious the lengths some people to to on it with selfies and posting about every time they go to the gym!

Lightheartedindeed · 17/08/2014 22:50

Sharey-Mary here, sounds about right

Fillybuster · 17/08/2014 22:52

Share savvy Grin I'm surprised, as my kids are convinced I'm a total. Luddite!

telsa · 18/08/2014 00:01

share-y wary
Yep, sounds like me.

violetwellies · 18/08/2014 00:04

I'm off the grid, absolutely no surprise.
Why would I want to post pictures of my child 'ont tinterweb'?, my delight in him is unaffected by anything anyone else may think.

MrsWinnibago · 18/08/2014 00:10

Share Savvy like many others on this thread! It's probably my age. I'm 40...young enough to be internet savvy but not young enough to disgorge my entire life online!

My older friends seem to be less active online than I do and my younger friends...well they seem to be forever splattering their dinner/their kids/their car/new shoes/latest scab across social media.

I could do with a voucher for another gadget please! Grin We have only 2 laptops and a tablet and my older DD is getting too old for her tablet!

Jux · 18/08/2014 03:04

How many questions are there? I have 7 but no submit or next button, so I have no idea what I am Sad

Hobnob, I used to use JANET! She didn't like me very much (but it might have been the Mac I was trying to use her on).

heyday · 18/08/2014 07:48

I am off the grid. I beg to differ. I use mu smartphone and ipad extensively but I don't let it dominate my life. There is absolutely nothing wrong with writing a reminder on the kitchen whiteboard. Moderation in all things is my motto. Make good use of the techno world but don't let it overtake you and control you. Believe it or not not everyone in the world wants to view four hundred selfies from their long lost auntie in Guatemala. Now, where's my typewriter I need to write a letter to tell everyone that I have just bought a new cassette player. Modern world? I'm up there with the best of 'em.

Tootssweet · 18/08/2014 08:03

I am allegedly 'share-savvy' - I'm not so sure as dd is 9 and has gone from being completely uncommunicative on the phone to suddenly being desperate for her own mobile (not a chance until she starts secondary school!) & hogging my iPad face timing her friends whilst we are off visiting family during the holidays.

I am scared that she may do something daft in her teens that will haunt her & as for my 3 yo ds - he will probably end up as some kind of hacker!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/08/2014 08:09

I'm sharey-savvy which I reckon is a pretty good reflection, with family scattered to the four winds social media is helpful but I'm quite a guarded person.

snoggle · 18/08/2014 08:17

I am share-savvy.

I don't feel it sometimes though - don't do instagram and I don't get twitter at all (as in I don't have the time or the energy for it). I am pretty cautious about my online activities though and hope I am pretty secure.

I do have a 1st gen iPad though and could really do with a nice voucher towards an upgrade.....

jamaisjedors · 18/08/2014 08:57

I'm sharey-wary - the summary assumes this is because I don't know how to use media, which is not true - I use it to network for professional reasons but I don't share my personal life on-line a lot because I work in Education and don't need my personal details out there for all to see.

Kveta · 18/08/2014 09:43

off the grid, apparently Confused - I use facebook a LOT, but it's more for silly stories about the kids than boasting about their achievements - if I'm going to boast, it will be to my parents only, and over the phone! I do post loads of photos, but tend to take them down a day or two later, and am wary of posting 300 pics of the same thing, too! I bloody love facebook, but it is for me, not for or about my kids, and it is just a social thing. My DC are still young though, no idea what'll happen when they hit social media usage age!

dizhin79 · 18/08/2014 09:51

share-savvy, tho my little one is too wee for laptop use!Grin
