To celebrate the launch of the new Vodafone family price plan - Red+ - we have developed a new fun quiz to find out what kind of sharent you are!

What’s a sharent we hear you say…well it’s all about your attitude to sharing photos and updates of your DC online. Are you shary-savvy, a Shary Mary, shary-wary – or totes off the grid?
Take the short quiz now to find out

Vodafone say “For some parents, the internet can seem like a bit of minefield and with new technology emerging all the time, it can be hard to stay up to date. If that sounds like you, worry not. Vodafone has put together some guides and articles to help parents maintain control and keep the family safe – find out more here
Vodafone has also launched a new plan, designed specifically for families. Red+ gives you one data allowance to share and you can even cap your kids’ data so they don't go over their limit. You'll get one simple bill for all devices, saving you money compared to individual plans, and you'll also get unlimited calls and texts”

Find out more at vodafone.co.uk/redplus.

Please take a few minutes to do the quiz and return to this thread to post your sharenting result – let Vodafone know on this thread what it is and what you think and you’ll be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £250 John Lewis voucher.

The Vodafone Digital Parenting Guide can be found here: www.vodafone.co.uk/family

Thanks and good luck

Share-savvy

Yes that's accurate. I do put occasional funny pics of family stuff on FB but not that often. No twitter or Instagram here (yet).

MummyKnight · 17/08/2014 00:05

You are share-savvy

I'm happy with that, I think it's a nice balance.

Skina · 17/08/2014 01:19

Share-savvy here. Pretty much sums it up, in as much as a quiz like that can.

I don't use Twitter or Instagram, but my FB settings are watertight in the extreme, so it really is only my friends and family who see things. I don't add people whom I have never met, and find it a bit Hmm when I see friends have 700+ 'friends' on there, when I know damn well they have never and will likely never, meet them.

Some of my DC's friends have well over 1000 which I find utterly bizarre. My DC's friends are their, you know, RL friends.

SunflowerStalks · 17/08/2014 01:36

I'm off the grid!

No suprise there at all. I'm actually not totally averse to social media - I skype, facebook, know what the insta whatnot thing does, I just choose not to expose my family and children to it until they are old enough to make that decision themselves.

Jasminesoft · 17/08/2014 08:16

I am shary-wary which sounds right to me. DH and I are both like this and we are very careful with the DCs to teach them how to manage their online profile.

Nightwish · 17/08/2014 08:43

Share-y wary - You find the whole world of social media a bit anxiety-inducing - and need help knowing where to dive in.

Do not agree personally, just because someone doesn't feel the need to share everything online does not mean it is anxiety inducing or need help.
I use social media regularly but choose not to post things all of the time.

mugorreasonable · 17/08/2014 10:02

Mine was hypothetical as my 6mo isn't too tech savvy yet although can change the TV channel.

I got shqre-savvy which I'm happy with.

its a good quiz to make you think.

WAFFLEO · 17/08/2014 10:24

"share-savvy" - as my children get older I think it's really important to stress the dangers that can come with sharing too much on the internet.

allisgood1 · 17/08/2014 10:59

I an share-savvy apparently Smile

DorothyBastard · 17/08/2014 11:10

I'm share-savvy

dobedobedo · 17/08/2014 11:36

I'm share savvy which seems about right. My ds has an Instagram and twitter account but I monitor who he follows and he's not allowed a Facebook or snapchat account as he could see anything he's not meant to a lot easier on that. Also he's time limited on gadgets (otherwise he'd be on them all day).

gamerwidow · 17/08/2014 12:31

sharey-warey apparently.
Not true I'm not tech illiterate. I know how to share safely but I just don't want to share every bit of my life online.

IncaAztec · 17/08/2014 12:52

I am share-savvy. I like to share appropriate stuff and use tech but I am aware of the downsides. Yup, def. me then!

Arcadia · 17/08/2014 12:57

I am share-savvy. DD only 4 but aware of the challenges ahead with social media etc. don't like people who live through social media with constant pics of every little thing, and I don't even have a smart l
Phone (just an iPad which is normally used at home).

Yama · 17/08/2014 13:01

Share-savvy. Which is accurate.

Although who takes a photo of their kid in school uniform on their smartphone and waits until that evening to put it on FB? Surely you just do it there and then? :)

shanewayne · 17/08/2014 14:59

I am off the grid

I hate selfies- just why? how self obsessed are you that you need to be looking at your own face constantly and think other people want to do the same?
I also don't get posting your entire life on facebook and twitter, it just makes me think that their sat on a computer/tablet/phone or whatever while I'm actually out having a life.

Can you tell I'm not on any social media??? Bah humbug!!!!

lecherrs · 17/08/2014 15:39

I'm share savvy.

I would say that's about right.

When I post pictures to Facebook, not all of my 'friends' can see them. I think if I bumped into them outside boots, with my newly developed holiday pics would I show them? If yes, they're on my photos list, if not, then not! (Similar policy with who I accept as friends on FB - only those I'd stop to chat to if I bumped into them in the supermarket).

Now my ten year old daughter is on Instagram, on the condition that I check it regularly on my phone and we discuss what is / is not appropriate etc. I figured it was easier to do with a ten year old desperate to keep her account, rather than trying to reason with a stroppy 13 year old who knows it all! Although that said, reading the inane chatter of Tweens on Instagram is beyond painful!

Fasterkillpussycat · 17/08/2014 16:16

Sharey-warey! Which sounds about right, to be honest.

fish88 · 17/08/2014 16:54

Sharey wary

notnowbernard · 17/08/2014 18:22

Off the grid

No surprise really. Don't do Facebook, Instagram etcetera. DC too young to be into social media (although I feel it's in the post, big-style, thanks to 10yr old dc1)

I fear it is time for me to get a bit savvy

ButterflyOfFreedom · 17/08/2014 18:46

Im 'off the grid' !

Surprised by this actually as I do use social networking / my smartphone etc. Just obviously not as much as some people!!

MirandaWest · 17/08/2014 18:54

I'm share savvy which I think is accurate.

MajesticWhine · 17/08/2014 19:00

I'm sharey-wary. Which is about right. I can't get used to posting on facebook. It's just too embarrassing.
