To celebrate the launch of the new Vodafone family price plan - Red+ - we have developed a new fun quiz to find out what kind of sharent you are!

What’s a sharent we hear you say…well it’s all about your attitude to sharing photos and updates of your DC online. Are you shary-savvy, a Shary Mary, shary-wary – or totes off the grid?
Take the short quiz now to find out

Vodafone say “For some parents, the internet can seem like a bit of minefield and with new technology emerging all the time, it can be hard to stay up to date. If that sounds like you, worry not. Vodafone has put together some guides and articles to help parents maintain control and keep the family safe – find out more here
Vodafone has also launched a new plan, designed specifically for families. Red+ gives you one data allowance to share and you can even cap your kids’ data so they don't go over their limit. You'll get one simple bill for all devices, saving you money compared to individual plans, and you'll also get unlimited calls and texts”

Find out more at vodafone.co.uk/redplus.

Please take a few minutes to do the quiz and return to this thread to post your sharenting result – let Vodafone know on this thread what it is and what you think and you’ll be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £250 John Lewis voucher.

The Vodafone Digital Parenting Guide can be found here: www.vodafone.co.uk/family

Thanks and good luck

I'm off the grid. I suppose it's true as I don't really put much on Facebook.

But, I don't have to as Dh usually shares a lot and we have a lot of mutual friends. So, it's not entirely accurate.

Chopchopbusybusy · 16/08/2014 11:49

I'm off the grid which is ironic as DH complains I am always on my phone. This is true but I am MNing, reading and replying to emails, texting or feeding my hayday and candy crush habits. I don't Facebook, tweet or take selfies.

WildEyedAndHairier · 16/08/2014 12:15

I'm share-savvy

Fairly accurate I suppose but only because I've learnt the hard way from some rather embarrassing mistakes Blush

mrscumberbatch · 16/08/2014 12:20

Apparently I am share savvy... Which I'd agree with.

I grew up around technology and feel comfortable enough with it to be able to control/inform what Dd does with it.

I take the good bits and leave the bad. It's nice and balanced.

zoemaguire · 16/08/2014 13:47

Share-savvy. About sums me up:) I put a lot on fb but settings are well locked down.

grassroots · 16/08/2014 14:14

'Off the grid' - and happy to be so!

foodie12345 · 16/08/2014 14:25

You are share-y wary

You find the whole world of social media a bit anxiety-inducing - and need help knowing where to dive in.

Couldnt agree more. Hate sharing my kids pics and achievements on social media. I am very protective about my kids. I am very careful about sharing about my kids on social media as I feel kids privacy is invaded in an era where online profiles enable targeted marketing

OwlCapone · 16/08/2014 14:33

I am, apparently, off the grid.

Cherryjellybean · 16/08/2014 14:41

I'm share savvy which is about right.

RedKites · 16/08/2014 15:19

Share savvy That's probably about right.

FortyFacedFuckers · 16/08/2014 15:38

You are share-savvy

Whilst you’re not adverse to a bit of online boasting, you remain a leetle bit sceptical about sharing too much. In fact, you pride yourself on being pretty up-to-the-minute with your online safety knowledge, and you make sure you pass this on to your kids.

___
I feel this is pretty accurate I do use social media but I am quite restrictive of what I put on it & definitely don't over share.

InMySpareTime · 16/08/2014 16:43

Share-savvy, I make the DCs earn internet time by doing chores, and make them very aware about only chatting online with people they'd chat with IRL.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 16/08/2014 17:45

I'm share-y wary.

heymammy · 16/08/2014 17:49

I am share-y warey, it's true there's still so much about living your life online that I just don't get. I'm not even that ancient.

DramaInPyjamas · 16/08/2014 17:50

"You are off the grid

Social sharing? If people want to hear your family's news they can call you. On your land-line."

Yes, describes me perfectly, I am an extremely private person - although I am on-line quite a bit, but never under real names, locations, etc

I personally think I am a happier person for it tbh.

nannynome · 16/08/2014 18:04

I am apparently share-savvy too. With both DH and I working in IT I should think so too ;)

MothershipG · 16/08/2014 18:54

Share-savvy here. DH works in IT and I used to.

Nearly snap nannynome Smile

ovenbun · 16/08/2014 19:37

I am sharesavy! Sounds pretty accurate, I do love a nice comment or two on a photo of my daughter, but keep my friends list short and privacy settings high xxx

BigSpottyCupofTea · 16/08/2014 19:54

A sharey-warey which sounds about right to me. I don't want pictures of my kids on the internet that I haven't ok'd as I'm nc with some of my family who I don't want to have access to images of the DC. I'm also v wierded out by the over-sharing that goes on on Fbook. Why do I want to have a dozen updates a day on anyone other than really close family/friends.

SomethingAboutNothing · 16/08/2014 20:53

You are share-savvy - sounds about right, I'm more of a look and like pics than post things kinda lady!

NoodieRoodie · 16/08/2014 21:05

I should hope so! I'm fairly clued up but DH is a developer so can put blocks and filters on all sorts!

HRMumness · 16/08/2014 21:11

I'm share savvy.

DD1 is only 2 but can already proficiently use an iPad. DH and I both work in the internet industry so although we use social media (lots of family in Oz) both of us are very cautious about it.

boptanana · 16/08/2014 21:23

You are share-y wary

Yes that's about right!

chocomochi · 16/08/2014 21:48

You are share-savvy. Think it underestimates time on MN Wink

There are different groups for different sharing situations I.e things I would only share with family or things I'm happy to share with friends. Hope I can pass on internet safety messages to my children when they are a bit older.

MsMarple · 16/08/2014 22:03

I'm Share-y Wary which sounds about right. I have a smartphone but only 2 apps, and I can't yet imagine the day when I let the children have their own phones/tablets/whatever, although they are still very young so might perhaps improve their powers of persuasion in time.
