To celebrate the launch of the new Vodafone family price plan - Red+ - we have developed a new fun quiz to find out what kind of sharent you are!

What’s a sharent we hear you say…well it’s all about your attitude to sharing photos and updates of your DC online. Are you shary-savvy, a Shary Mary, shary-wary – or totes off the grid?
Take the short quiz now to find out

Vodafone say “For some parents, the internet can seem like a bit of minefield and with new technology emerging all the time, it can be hard to stay up to date. If that sounds like you, worry not. Vodafone has put together some guides and articles to help parents maintain control and keep the family safe – find out more here
Vodafone has also launched a new plan, designed specifically for families. Red+ gives you one data allowance to share and you can even cap your kids’ data so they don't go over their limit. You'll get one simple bill for all devices, saving you money compared to individual plans, and you'll also get unlimited calls and texts”

Find out more at vodafone.co.uk/redplus.

Please take a few minutes to do the quiz and return to this thread to post your sharenting result – let Vodafone know on this thread what it is and what you think and you’ll be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £250 John Lewis voucher.

The Vodafone Digital Parenting Guide can be found here: www.vodafone.co.uk/family

Thanks and good luck

You are share-savvy - yup that's us. Thank goodness we've all got our own techbits now: evenings were very difficult time-sharing the only desktop between 2 teens and an avid geek mum. Our mobile backlist reads like the Who's Who of mobile innovation- hence I considered myself extremely lucky to be always on the receiving end of DC's 12-month old 'cast-offs' !

AnnaBanana25 · 22/08/2014 22:35

Im share savvy, I think this is about right. I enjoy sharing digitally but want to make sure my family still live in the here and now.

Supermam · 22/08/2014 23:16

Share-savvy

Yes, probably. Am wary of posting personal info, especially about family, on social media - though think it's a great way to stay in touch with friends.

MrsErrington · 23/08/2014 08:27

You are share-y wary

You find the whole world of social media a bit anxiety-inducing - and need help knowing where to dive in

Yup definitely me! I hope in time the internet will become far more controllable on removing content permanently but until then I'll be keeping personal info and pics of the family only open to a heavily filtered audience.

MrsTuppence · 23/08/2014 08:52

Off the grid here! I'd say that's broadly right and I do worry a lot about how absurdly reliant on screens and social media we seem to be becoming.

DrivingForce · 23/08/2014 10:09

IM share savvy, which is accurate enough

MrsLJ2014 · 23/08/2014 10:27

Share-savvy

Which is very accurate! Only share a handful of things and like to ensure everyone is safe doing so!

BrieAndChilli · 23/08/2014 11:34

I am share-savvy
Kids are too young for facebook, own mobile phones etc. ds1 who is 7 is a little geek so we have already had the talk about internet safety and they have also had a talk at school.
I use facebook a lot but only post odd photos etc unlike some friends who post 100 photos of their holiday, post every single thing they do, communicate with their partner via face book etc

muffliato · 23/08/2014 14:53

Off the grid.

Very true even though I'm 25. And even though I spend a lot of time online when it comes to social media I'm not too interested.

rachaelsit · 23/08/2014 15:15

I came out as shary-wary. The questions were largely related to older kids (mine is 3 months) so I had to imagine what I'd be like with him when he's older!

GalaxyInMyPants · 23/08/2014 15:34

I'm share savvy. Which I think is quite accurate. I on Facebook etc but I can't stand sharing everything that happens or the fb boasting that I see. Never taken a selfie.

BoysiesBack · 23/08/2014 15:39

I'm share-savvy Smile

Sounds about right, although having a child with internet-freedom is a fairly recent thing in this house.

scarletoconnor · 23/08/2014 16:46

What is your sharenting style?
You are share-savvy

Whilst you’re not adverse to a bit of online boasting, you remain a leetle bit sceptical about sharing too much. In fact, you pride yourself on being pretty up-to-the-minute with your online safety knowledge, and you make sure you pass this on to your kids.

Not sure about the boasting bit but yes, I am happy to use social media - for example, I have uploaded a photo most days this past fortnight whilst on holiday as its an easy and probably the quickest way to share photos with family when away; and I had phone on hand at all times due to using the online fastpass system on holiday most days and using it as my camera ( I didn't take my big slr away with me due to nature of holiday, whereas normally I'd have that.). Also, as the ICT and e-safety coordinator at school I am pretty well up to date and have always felt it fare important to educate DD about online safety than ban/restrict access.

crochetsavesmysanity · 23/08/2014 17:58

Apparently I'm Off the Grid. Actually quite apt- I shut down my FB account 4 months ago, because I had real Social Media fatigue.

ladydolly · 23/08/2014 20:22

Share savvy, boyfriend would disagree and says the sofa is my communications hub, surrounded by tablet, 2 phones and laptop ??

ShakyTheStork · 23/08/2014 22:06

I am sharey warey. Although my iPad auto corrected it to "Sharey wartery" Grin

MontysMum22 · 23/08/2014 23:05

I'm Share-y wary apparently, to be honest I thought I'd be worse than this actually, I tend to embrace technology in fits and starts, I learn the bits I need to get by to do what I need to do. I have an I phone but I expect I don't use more than a tenth of the things capability, I don't know about smart phone I think a stupid phone would have been sufficient for me. Anyway I'd spoil my kids fun if I suddenly became all savvy, they get such a kick out of changing my ringtones to things they think are going to embaress me. One of these days I'll surprise them and learn how to scan and then upload their embaressing baby photos then they'll have to watch out.

SetTheWorldOnFire · 23/08/2014 23:18

Share-savvy, which is pretty much what I expected.

I have FB and use it a lot, due to far-flung family and friends. I keep my privacy settings high, but would never put anything on there if I would be mortified if the privacy settings changed unexpectedly (because FB never normally do anything like that Hmm). I'd rather the whole world didn't see photos of my family, just the people I choose, but there's nothing in any of those pictures which I'd be ashamed of, I just prefer to keep them semi-private/ semi-public instead of totally public.

I am also wary of MN sharing, unless you're happy to share totally publicly, namechange or don't post. It's surprising how easy it is to identify people on supposedly anonymous platforms, if they give away too many details.

Cric · 24/08/2014 08:28

You are share-savvy
:)

Lorn26 · 24/08/2014 09:04

I'm share-y wary, which sounds about right.

Patilla · 24/08/2014 09:35

Off the grid.

Which is a bit weird as I use media a lot but do prefer a good movie and don't have teenage kids yet. Just not a huge fan of selfies and Facebook!

margaritasbythesea · 24/08/2014 12:05

I thought I was going to be totally off the grid, but in fact I'm just wary. I think I would like to be off the grid!

Gaudete · 24/08/2014 16:37

Share-savvy. At 14 months my son is too young to worry about his online activities at the moment. Heaven only knows what social networks will be around when he's a teenager.
