To celebrate the launch of the new Vodafone family price plan - Red+ - we have developed a new fun quiz to find out what kind of sharent you are!

What’s a sharent we hear you say…well it’s all about your attitude to sharing photos and updates of your DC online. Are you shary-savvy, a Shary Mary, shary-wary – or totes off the grid?
Take the short quiz now to find out

Vodafone say “For some parents, the internet can seem like a bit of minefield and with new technology emerging all the time, it can be hard to stay up to date. If that sounds like you, worry not. Vodafone has put together some guides and articles to help parents maintain control and keep the family safe – find out more here
Vodafone has also launched a new plan, designed specifically for families. Red+ gives you one data allowance to share and you can even cap your kids’ data so they don't go over their limit. You'll get one simple bill for all devices, saving you money compared to individual plans, and you'll also get unlimited calls and texts”

Find out more at vodafone.co.uk/redplus.

Please take a few minutes to do the quiz and return to this thread to post your sharenting result – let Vodafone know on this thread what it is and what you think and you’ll be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £250 John Lewis voucher.

The Vodafone Digital Parenting Guide can be found here: www.vodafone.co.uk/family

Thanks and good luck

shary-savvy, hmmmm

nowahousewife · 19/08/2014 07:15

Apparently I'm off the grid! Don't think I really am as I am v tech/social media savvy, I just choose not to use much of it!

NorbertDentressangle · 19/08/2014 08:13

I got "share savvy" which is probably pretty accurate although I would add that my fb friends are made up of less than 100 people that I actually know rather than hundreds of random people and my security settings are set to maximum so fb page can only be seen by my friends.

Marg2k8 · 19/08/2014 08:25

"You are share-savvy"

GertieFinkle · 19/08/2014 08:33

I'm share savvy. I'm on facebook but don't often post. I have privacy settings to the highest levels and only have friends on there that know me and my family. I email pics of kids doing activities etc to my immediate family but don't post online. I don't put identifying things like pics with dc in their school uniform online. I try not to be paranoid but will be monitoring my dc with their tech and have given them chats about staying safe online. this short film from CEOPS is a good starting point for discussion with your child.

Dd has just got a phone, I know the password (and it will be taken away if she changes it without me or dh knowing) and have said to her that I will check on it occasionally. She's only 11yrs so this is acceptable to her for now but of course as she gets older she is entitled to her privacy.

A friend's daughter suffered badly from cyber bullying (by text) and I don't want that to happen to dd. Year 6 and 7 are the prime year groups for cyber bullying I was told on an anti-bullying course. Also, dc are not allowed tech in their rooms at night. Another thing mentioned on this course is how many children aren't getting enough sleep (teenagers in particular) because they are up late at night texting/on social media etc and how it had a big impact on their schoolwork.

I do feel strongly that many parents are not tech savvy enough and once their dc have phones etc, just sort of give up trying.

dorotheamink · 19/08/2014 08:35

I'm a shary-savvy, which is pretty accurate. I do use lots of social media (FB, Instagram, Twitter etc) but try not to inundate everyone with photos of my baby. My partner and I have set up a password- protected blog so we can post pics and videos to keep family up to date, while it still is their choice to access it.

Ragwort · 19/08/2014 08:57

Off the Grid - that suits me, never use FB, Twitter, can't understand how to use phone as a camera Grin. Can just about text.

I prefer to use old fashioned telephone, email or meeting people in real life - often when there are threads about the difficulty people have in making friends I want to scream - get off social media - meet real people, do real things. I have loads of friends & a hugely busy, active social life. Grin. If someone insists on sending me a photo I can receive via email or would prefer a proper print.

I do worry that I may not be able to keep up with my teenagers though.

You are share-savvy

Whilst you’re not adverse to a bit of online boasting, you remain a leetle bit sceptical about sharing too much. In fact, you pride yourself on being pretty up-to-the-minute with your online safety knowledge, and you make sure you pass this on to your kids.

This does actually describe me pretty well. The internet is a cool tool but you need to be aware of the value of the personal info you give away and weigh that against what you get back.

'I'm share-y wary! I find the whole world of social media a bit anxiety inducing - and need help knowing where to dive in.'

Perhaps it's because I'm kind of introvert and a bit wary of sharing personal information online. x

"Sharey-warey"

I do guard my pribavacy online jealously. No pics on fb, ever, and have asked DH to remove his pics of the kids from fb. I tend towards cynical and paranoid that things can come back to haunt an individual once posted online.

Tyranasaurus · 19/08/2014 14:22

You are share-savvy, seems about right- though a bit of pointless quiz really

badgermum · 19/08/2014 15:45

You are share-savvy

The description fitted me perfectly

Aubasaurus · 19/08/2014 16:30

I am "off the grid" apparently. Which probably translates as anti-social and the parent of a child too young to test the social networking boundaries. Yet.

magentastardust · 19/08/2014 17:14

'shary -wary' which I think is fair enough. I do use social media and I enjoy certain aspects of it but I do have a good think about what I post and the kids are strictly monitored at the mo but coming to the age where I will need to be a bit more savvy about thing!

TheReluctantCountess · 19/08/2014 17:17

I'm share-savvy. That's about right, I reckon.

rydley · 19/08/2014 18:25

i am a share-savvy. I like to be careful and my kids do not have mobiles, they have a laptop and I pad to share that all. they can use facetime but not social media, even I don't us it.

TwiggyHeart · 19/08/2014 18:44

Share-savvy apparently....

phillie1 · 19/08/2014 19:15

Off the grid

Kem99 · 19/08/2014 21:08

You are off the grid - I like it this way! Used to be more open but I prefer it this way.

becks2134 · 19/08/2014 21:41

I'm share-savvy, i do like fb/twitter but I suppose I'm quite weary of too much info being posted on social media so will be keeping a watch at what my children get up to on there too! I'd rather to let them have access to social media and keep an eye on what they're doing than banning it and them joining without me knowing and not seeing who they're talking too!

YEP, THIS IS ME

Doubtfuldaphne · 19/08/2014 22:15

I'm the only sharey Mary it seems. Never mind. We're happy. We love our technology. I have norton family safe installed to monitor my ds's internet use. We all have smart phones and laptops. Apart from my toddler. She does know how to use my phone though!
