Which kind of sharent are you? Take the NEW MN fun quiz – and you could win a £250 JL voucher from Vodafone NOW CLOSED

To celebrate the launch of the new Vodafone family price plan - Red+ - we have developed a new fun quiz to find out what kind of sharent you are!

What’s a sharent we hear you say…well it’s all about your attitude to sharing photos and updates of your DC online. Are you shary-savvy, a Shary Mary, shary-wary – or totes off the grid?
Take the short quiz now to find out

Vodafone say “For some parents, the internet can seem like a bit of minefield and with new technology emerging all the time, it can be hard to stay up to date. If that sounds like you, worry not. Vodafone has put together some guides and articles to help parents maintain control and keep the family safe – find out more here
Vodafone has also launched a new plan, designed specifically for families. Red+ gives you one data allowance to share and you can even cap your kids’ data so they don't go over their limit. You'll get one simple bill for all devices, saving you money compared to individual plans, and you'll also get unlimited calls and texts”

Find out more at vodafone.co.uk/redplus.

Please take a few minutes to do the quiz and return to this thread to post your sharenting result – let Vodafone know on this thread what it is and what you think and you’ll be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £250 John Lewis voucher.

The Vodafone Digital Parenting Guide can be found here: www.vodafone.co.uk/family

Thanks and good luck

I'm a Share-y- wary, which is about right. I love social media for news and sharing ideas but still like to keep private life private.

freefan · 18/08/2014 19:36

Well I'm Share-Savvy according to this result which I think is quite accurate, doesn;t stop me worrying about my kids safety online, especially now our secondary is encouraging kids to take smartphones and tablets to hook up to their wi-fi to help with classroom learning, not sure I like this idea much!

balloon66 · 18/08/2014 19:38

im share-savvy! think thats about right

Maiyakat · 18/08/2014 19:56

Off the grid, and happy to be there!

upsydaisyd0nt · 18/08/2014 20:16

You are share-y wary

You find the whole world of social media a bit anxiety-inducing - and need help knowing where to dive in.

Can't argue with that, although i do use facebook occasionally....i just don't let it take over my life!

Mistyblue01 · 18/08/2014 20:36

You are Share-y Mary

You and your clan are totally down with all things digital (if it’s not on social media - it didn’t happen).

I like to use social media and am happy for my children to use it now they are in their teens. I think that exercising common sense keeps you safe.

ChaffinchOfDoom · 18/08/2014 20:41

share-y wary,

and I am indeed Grin
dislike the over-sharers, keep some mystery in life!

UseHerName · 18/08/2014 20:42

im off the grid apparently Hmm

if my dc had facebook over my dead body id have an app installed on their phone and laptop so all their activity online was monitored, including what has been deleted, so not that technophobic after all Grin

TheHoneyBadger · 18/08/2014 20:53

see my off the grid is really strange because ds has minecraft, plays on all sorts of servers and has a skype account to chat to fellow HE players (though of course we've had lots of talks about what to watch out for etc) and he's only 7 with his own pc (albeit in the lounge) which would horrify some people. i live on my laptop and work from home via the internet and do all my entertainment and news viewing via the net.

ds knows not to tell people where he lives, he knows he's only meant to skype with people he's met on the whitelisted home ed server for which all parents have each others contact details and their children's minecraft names and he is able to say to me, if say he's watching a minecraft video channel on youtube, 'there's a little bit of swearing but only like a little bit now and then saying 'damn' or 'crap' so is it ok?'. he googles freely when he sees something on tv - say about a type of shark or a place - and wants to find out more.

i think what threw my result to 'off the grid' was probably that none of the answers fitted our situation/my character and my lack of need to share photos of my son all over the web.

but you did say 'fun quiz' so excuse my pedantry. AND i guess it's about how much of your child's life do you share online rather than how much tech and online access do you have in your home. also i'm totally not attached to my phone. i'm always within reach of a pc or laptop so have never really understood why you'd want to use small screen clunky phone web apps.

littleme96 · 18/08/2014 20:54

You are share-savvy.

I am happy with that and agree that's what I'm like. I enjoy using social media to share with friends and family, but I don't live my life online and am anti-oversharing!

Caly2014 · 18/08/2014 20:54

I'm Sharey-wary, which sounds about right.

jac22 · 18/08/2014 20:58

I'm share-savvy, which I'd say is quite accurate.

GentlyGentlyOhDear · 18/08/2014 21:00

I'm shary-wary - not into facebook inanity or boasting at all!

Marmalade1144 · 18/08/2014 21:04

I'm share-savvy. Rarely boast on Facebook one very irritating friend who does nothing but that though. So dull!

todayisnottheday · 18/08/2014 21:18

You are share-y wary

Hmm, I am wary but not because I'm anxious or unused to social media so I find that quite patronising (especially given one particular answer I gave) I just don't see the need to post my dinner/new shoes/dogs latest bowel movement!

AndHarry · 18/08/2014 21:21

Haha! My DC are too little for me to be worrying about social media just yet. I think I do a good mix of social media, emails, picking up the phone to talk to people and gasp talking to people in the flesh.

neffi · 18/08/2014 21:23

Share savvy. Which sounds about right. I love a good selfie and use FB to share family news (and holiday snaps) but my child is still young so those discussions about social media with her are a way off yet.

Littleturkish · 18/08/2014 21:27

I got share savvy- but to be honest, I use Facebook with the groups feature, so I only share with a small group of friends in reality, but I do use it a lot for sharing with friends I don't get to physically see a lot.

lankyesme · 18/08/2014 21:31

Sharey warey. Very much so ! Have deleted FB account for professional reasons and Twitter is virtually anon.

ThePortlyPinUp · 18/08/2014 21:32

I'm a Sharey Mary and unashamed, I like to see updates about my friends and family and they like to see what we are up to, it's especially good for family abroad to catch up on our day to day adventures. I am very security aware though which doesn't really come across with the limited questions of the quiz.

Sweetmotherfudger · 18/08/2014 22:05

"Share-savvy" this is actually pretty accurate although I think a lot of people are overly cautious. Social media's for sharing.

JoJoBaldwin · 18/08/2014 22:12

I'm 'share-y wary', which is good I think. Best to be on the safe side and not live your whole life online!

obi1kinobi · 18/08/2014 22:51

What is your sharenting style?
You are off the grid... Teehee

Social sharing? If people want to hear your family's news they can call you. On your land-line.
And a picture of an old typewriter Wink

This is odd though, considering how much time I spend online. Confused
Also I loathe selfies, facebook and instagram so no idea where they get that style from Wink

KittyKat88 · 18/08/2014 22:54

'You are off the grid' - ah, to return to a less tech-driven society, that would indeed be wonderful! Actually, I do love my tech and there is definitely a place for it, but I also don't want to lose my connection with nature, or skills such as writing and speaking properly (ie. not using 'text speak' gobbledigook!). I'd hope my DDs would also find a good balance; with all the tech that kids have nowadays I'd hope they would still remain connected to nature and the great outdoors too.

sweetsomethings · 18/08/2014 23:41

You are share-y wary

I dont like to share to much of my young children as they dont get a say.
