Ah okay thanks. Probably bad news then as I would have thought I'd of heard by now if it was good news. I'll call tomorrow and see what's what.

Not necessarily my DC was awarded on the 29TH day then back payment took 3 to 5 days, but I would call them x

That's great news. I think it will be backdated to your renewal date before you submitted the MR but I'm not 100% sure on this. I am currently 25 weeks on a MR for the same reasons as you can I ask what evidence you sent in to get your HRM thank you

Honestly I'm shocked he got given HRM, I sent a walking test that we did on him that timestamped how far he got. I sent a paediatrician report that highlighted his behavioural outburst and how they saw the cuts he'd left on our arms from us having to hold him. A written statement from us and I found their framework they use and quoted it to them and made sure to reiterate that it wasn't something he could control. It wasn't much evidence, I didnt think he would be awarded it xx

What was your MR scan date? Congratulations on your award 😊

Hi, my MR date was 30th december, I called last week and it wasn't with a decision maker , so i was shocked when I called to check they received additional evidence and he'd been awarded xx

Oh that’s good, I’m the 31st. Did you have lots of evidence? I feel like the amount I sent may hold things up a bit

Hopefully you will hear really soon, I was only doing it for mobility element as he was awarded care element. I gave them a paediatrician report, his autism diagnosis, a statement from myself outlining his difficulties and quoted their framework for decisions under VUW criteria. And a walking test that we timestamped to show his difficulties. I felt like it wasn't much evidence and wasn't expecting that decision xx

Good luck this week everyone.

Ive read that melatonin doesn’t automatically qualify a child (despite significant night needs) Has anyone’s child been declined DLA with melatonin prescribed daily? Starting to feel anxious in my 15th week now and preparing myself for MR.

cooperbug · 06/07/2025 21:58

Our daughter is on melatonin prescribed via nhs sleep clinic and we were unfortunately declined at renewal.

Now on week 27 of MR

Aw hope you get some good news soon.
its ridiculous, you have to battle and prove sleep issues to get medicated support (which is a last resort for most parents), its not just given out, not sure why DLA think the child wouldn’t have significant night time needs!
keep me updated how you get on :-)

My son stayed on middle rate care at renewal despite being on melatonin and night time needs, I sent in the report from paediatric sleep clinic, letter confirmation upping his dosage and sleep diaries so thought it may have changed to high rate care, but nope stayed the same.

Doesn’t seem right does it. I assume they wrongly assume melatonin solves the issue! We use 5 nights per week, so 2 nights are wild to say the least 😅 the 5 nights it has helped the settling, settles within 90 minutes opposed to 3 hours, so we get a few hours good sleep now 9 until 12-1am ish and then up all night. We don’t have a sleep clinic locally, are they any good? we’re just supported by the community paediatrician. We’ve done a sleep course etc through kids
are you an MR then? Mines NC

Loads are not given high rate care when on melatonin as they see it as there on it it makes them sleep so they dont be awake in the night.

This is the same with my daughter. I dont even give the melatonin until like 11pm now as my son is awake to at least midnight🙃 so if I gave it to her at a decent time shell wake up just as hes going to sleep and ill have no sleep. She sleept around 1/2am until 5/6am now, still shit but better than nothing

We do that too 5 nights with it and 2 nights off, I’ve noticed if he doesn’t have a break from them they don’t work at all. My son’s problem is falling to sleep, he would be awake until 3-4am without it and it’s changed to 1-2am with it, I’m giving it at 9pm. I think he only got given middle rate care because they had only just upped his dose when my renewal was done, the first 2 weeks was bliss then it soon changes again. I didn’t do a MR only because we are still trialing doses of melatonin at the moment to see what work and once he finally falls to sleep he does stay asleep most nights. I’m on here for a COC for my daughter, she doesn’t sleep til 11pm, is awake on and off all night and then is awake at 4am ready to get up, she can’t be left alone at all it’s to dangerous, but she isn’t on melatonin yet so I don’t know which way it will go with her COC.

How long did everyone’s back payment take to arrive with a Barclays account? My son was awarded on 2nd July, thought it may have arrived today but still no sign

Its our first time applying so worried we’ll just get a decline.
same as you we thought we’d hit the jackpot in the first couple of weeks, our telephone review I said yes great DC sleeping (not a full night but such an improvement) didn’t want them to stop the prescription because that few hours of sleep is our respite! We have to crush it and hide it but on those 5 nights DC is given it, they now often refuse the “special” yoghurt etc so we’re only currently getting 2-3 nights per week where DC can settle for a few hours. Similar to your child they wake everyone, turns taps on, blocks toilets etc. I’m not sure a dose increase would improve anything for us because it does settle them initially.
Ive reduced hours at work but I’m hanging on and it’s difficult to function.
hopefully we get a response soon
