Did you send much evidence in? My MR date is 31/12 but I sent about 20pages of evidence, mostly hospital notes although I did highlight the main points I wanted them to look at, I just really hope I hear soon so I can start my appeal if were declined again! Just wonder if all the evidence I sent is holding them up a bit! Aww I bet you spend the whole weekend thinking about it now bless you

I sent quite a bit to be fair. I wrote a 10 page letter EXPLAINING EVERYTHING and made reference to the other parts of evidences. I also sent a report by his paediatrician, who also gave us a letter explaining his high needs. Also school provided a very detailed letter too giving thorough examples.

I just want to start the appeal process at this point even if it takes another year!

Yuppp weekend is definitely going to taken over by my thoughts!!!

Hopefully you hear back real soon! Thinking of you!

They already have been claiming carers allowance for many years so carers allowance is £354.90 that gets taken off as a income regardless, if they was to add the carers element to the beginning of there child’s award that would be + £201.68 each month added to there claim. So because the carers element would have been backdated to the beginning of there child’s Dla claim they would receive back pay of £201.68 each month as the carers allowance would have already been taken on the months they would be backdating.

I get carers element and carers allowence UC deduct £360.97 of me a month, and if she was to put in for carers allowence while claiming UC any backpay will generate an overpayment and she'll be made to pay every penny back. She's not gaining anything, she will still be receiving the same amount as she would without the carers allowence she'll just be benefiting from money every week.

Cant i claim both or only one.i can claim.what do u think will they back pay me.

As you are already receiving carers allowance for your husband you can only add the carers element and disability element on uc for your child ( you can’t claim carers allowance for 2 people and can only claim carers element for one person ) As you already have been having carers allowance taken off your uc awards they will back date the carers element to the beginning of your child’s award and will get £201.68 each month as back pay only because you’ve been charged the carers allowance but didn’t have the carers element at the time, if you add the disability element to your child and ask for it to be backdated it would be £158.76 ( middle rate care ) and £495.87 ( high rate care) each month that needs to be backdated dated.

Aww thank you! I know, it’s the not knowing that’s the hard part, it would be so much better if they sent a message saying either way then at least you could relax a bit or start preparing for appeal! Are you going to call up on Monday or is that a silly question 😂 oh, so you did send quite a bit then, hopefully I won’t have too much longer to wait 😞

Im confused what shes asking she hasn't written that on her previous comments she just keeps asking how much backpay she'll recieve if she claims carers allowence, it doesn't matter how much backpay she'll recieve its classed as an income so itll be taken back off her by UC.

She’s already been claiming carers allowance for her husband for many years so when the carers element gets added and they backdate it those months she’s not had the carers element on there it would be backpay. I do get what your saying though I’m on carers allowance and elements and it works the same for me as it does you but hers is abit different because she’s already had carers allowance on there before.

I called them up twice! And first person said they can't tell me MR decisions over the phone. And the other said we can't tell you over the phone as we don't even know it (which I'm struggling to believe the part that they can't see it....)

I'm not going to call anymore as it's actually more frustrating.

You're going to hear back real soon, you're so close to my scan date.

Lcd93 · 04/07/2025 19:04

Once you've all got reward you can also put in for a grant on the family fund website, they can give you money for a holiday or towards things they need like a bed a mattress etc. Rather than use your backpay, you can get the grant every 2 years.

I’ve heard a few people say they don’t tell you MR decision over the phone but there was a lady on a previous thread waiting an MR and they told her when she called back. Well hopefully a payment will hit your bank sometime next week, I’ve got everything crossed for you 😊

I think shes confused by it all, she was asking further up the thread about it and I explained it then but she’s already claiming carers allowance so can’t do it twice.

@Supamummyof3 you have the same scan date as me. I’ve heard nothing yet, no text either. Waiting patiently with fingers crossed.

A note about carers allowance if you opt not to have it backdated to the start of dla claim and start from date you apply instead there will be no overpayment.

Now I've heard about family fund how does it work? Can you get a grant per child that on dla?

Have you child received a decision for Dla yet? If so can I ask have you claimed disability element for your child on uc? Because you would be backdated more by added the disability element under your child’s name. For the carers element if you are putting in for carers element for your child you need to ask for it to be backdated, because you would have already had carers allowance taken off your uc claim they will amend the relevant previous claim to the beginning of your child’s Dla award and you should get some backpay back, it’s different in you case because you you have already had carers allowance taken off before claiming carers element. I take it you don’t claim the carers element already for your husband? Just the carers allowance side of it?

Im not sure about per child you should be able to, but if you've only just been awarded you'll have to wait for your award letter of dla in the post as you'll need to upload this during the application on family fund as proof. There is no limit what you can apply for, if you need a bed mattress clothing computer holiday etc you can click all boxes that apply. You'll recieve a separate amount for each item ticked. If you haven't applied before you'll hear back fairly quick within a few days, if its not your first time I believe the wait is 9-10 weeks.

Ive just checked for you there is no limit on family fund, but you will have to make a separate application for each child. Hope this helps
