Has anyone had the same problem as me
uc have agreed to backdate the disabled child element but when I asked about the carers element they said they haven’t had a request for that but I did put them in my journal

LocoCoco13 · 04/07/2025 12:38

Nirzhara · 04/07/2025 11:56

Hi in uc the amount they take off becouse of carer Allownce is this the amount is carer element.is the money they gonna back pay if they say i am eligible for back pay.

Carers allowance is 83.30 per week, carers element is 201.68 per month. Carers allowance is took off you in full so financially your no better off claiming it

The wait is horrendous isn't it. From what I see they have caught up with new claims now so don't understand why MR and COC are taking even longer than the 25 weeks Hope you get some answers soon 🙏

Thank you lovely. The wait is horrid. Everyone gives different feedback too when you call. So at the moment it's super unsettling.

COC, SD April 14th 2025

How is everyone's wait for change of circumstance going? My son was awarded MRC last year, and they sent the 3 year old mobility review paperwork just before he turned three, which is when we put in for a COC. My son has suspected autism, add, adhd. He has global development delay and recently diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy, as well as finding out he has periventricular leukomalcia a brain injury that affects the mobility part of his brain.(It happened during birth, as he was born at 29 weeks.) On his welcomm assesments, he's working at the mental age of a 6-11 month old child. He's also on melatonin as he only sleeps 2-4 hours a night, and it's not really helped at all.

Also such a side note, I have two friends who put in a NC recently and one got accepted after 6 weeks! the other 8 weeks! Quickest I have seen it done before. 😂

Hi, COC SD 26/03 , I called last week and they told me that the wait is up to 25 weeks and most likely I won't hear back until mid September

Sound's like it's so far away, but it will come round to that time in the blink of an eye. For me it's the anxiety of waiting that makes the time drag! Always get so anxious waiting to here back from DLA for some reason! 😅

Absolutely wild yours is taking so long I can’t believe it, now it’s over the 25 you’d think they’d rush it!

Mine still with decision maker x

xxStacey · 04/07/2025 11:27

Yes we are in this boat together haha, you'll have to keep me updated with how yours is going! I have a similar situation, when I applied last year my son didn't really have any diagnosis's, just that he is on the social communication pathway awaiting for an assessment(still waiting), my paediatrician was actually shocked when he found out he only got MRC, as he thought with all the evidence I supplied he would have been HRC, especially his sleeping, it was the worst last year some days it was 2 hours of sleep. I was scared out of doing a mandatory reconsideration though, as I kept being told by people I knew he would probably lose it. This year we have mountains of evidence, so I am hoping he gets HRC at least. Goodluck with your COC though!

Thank you lovely and good luck to you too. I have mountains of evidence aswell I just hope the dm looks through and reads it all properly. I’ve also sent in a 27 page letter stating each test for smi and guided them to which evidence it has come from just incase they didn’t read it all properly. 25 - 30 week wait is a big wait but we have school holidays coming up so I’m hoping that will keep my mind off it for a while and the wait time will become less by then 🤞 wishful thinking.

Hi i put a message in my journal about changes to my sons claim and changed it how they told me to and today they have verified all my other children including him but my other son who is also getting dla but his claim is on going and doesn't end until 2031 they have not verified his details I'm just worried they have got the wrong child and will effect my payments just seeing if anyone else has had this x

Yes you can claim both but they'll deduct £360 out of your UC your not gaining nothing. The £360 they'll take you'll be getting at £83 a week. And any backpay of carers allowence UC will generate as an overpayment and you'll be made to pay every penny back.

Did you send much evidence in? My MR date is 31/12 but I sent about 20pages of evidence, mostly hospital notes although I did highlight the main points I wanted them to look at, I just really hope I hear soon so I can start my appeal if were declined again! Just wonder if all the evidence I sent is holding them up a bit! Aww I bet you spend the whole weekend thinking about it now bless you

They already have been claiming carers allowance for many years so carers allowance is £354.90 that gets taken off as a income regardless, if they was to add the carers element to the beginning of there child’s award that would be + £201.68 each month added to there claim. So because the carers element would have been backdated to the beginning of there child’s Dla claim they would receive back pay of £201.68 each month as the carers allowance would have already been taken on the months they would be backdating.
