So decision made on the 22nd April.

Upgraded MRC to HRC
but kept LRM

Asked for the reasons for it and not a single mention of severe mental impairment rules whatsoever, the DM ONLY focused on his physical ability to walk, not anything that we mentioned with regards to the SMI rules, it has been totally ignored.

Have already put in an MR over the phone as the agent was able to tell me the reasons then and there. awarded until 2029 for the HRC as the DM acknowledged he is not likely to get any better with his condition.

I knew to expect disappointment! But its so frustrating that we asked specifically for something to be looked at and it doesnt even look like its been considered.

Yay You got your decision, congratulations on your award but I’m also sorry for the mobility decision 🙄 I don’t think they even look at all the evidence, when i originally received my sons award it only showed 2 pieces of evidence they based it off when there was a lot more. Good luck in the future with the MR

Congratulations on the HRC but so frustrating and unfair that they didn’t appear to look at everything you sent in 😩

NC- sent in February SC- 25th
I received a letter this morning dated 16th April and that I’d receive an outcome with come in 15 weeks.
also they asked for a birth certificate, was u meant to send that off with the application? Or is it something they just ask some people?

3 times in 20 weeks is very good, especially if you’re checking they’ve received stuffi’ve been very good about calling in. I’ve been really patient too, only phoning to check they’ve got extra evidence, but now I’m at 19 weeks and I know it’s been with a DM for 2 weeks now I’m having to stop myself as I want to phone every hour, on the hour to see what is taking so long 🙄😂

i always set a day i’ll call and then end up calling like 5 days before🤣 i got no acknowledgment this time no letters or text or anything that they’d received and i managed to hold off until 12 weeks to check🤣x

Thank you, im sure they didnt look at it correctly, because if they did they would have atleast mentioned that it was considered but was rejected because...

But all they said was "He doesnt require any aids to walk" not one SMI rule was mentioned, and when i've sent a 4 page document asking for it to be considered, if it was looked at they would have mentioned it!

Does your child use anything like a sen pushchair wrist reins or body reins while outside? I’m wondering if that is what they would class as aid while walking for smi?

K2025 · 25/04/2025 13:23

I also received letter confirming claim yesterday. But my scan date was 25/3 and sad may take up to 15 weeks x

Received payment today (25/04), £1726.45. Please can anyone possibly work out the rates, as we can’t seem to figure it out and haven’t received the letter yet.

SMI doesn't need any walking aids, it's about there mental capability to walk, I used this from contact to help:

https://contact.org.uk/help-for-families/information-advice-services/benefits-financial-help/disability-living-allowance/claiming-dla-higher-rate-mobility/

We do have to use wrist restraints to stop him from running off which was mentioned, so it's just been missed.

Claiming DLA higher rate mobility

Rules that allow some children with severe learning difficulties or Autistic Spectrum Disorder to qualify for DLA higher rate mobility.

megan345 · 25/04/2025 14:09

i’m not claiming under smi for my son, but i’ve seen on facebook people say you need to evidence every point in this flow chart to be eligible for hrm under smi?x

I'm pretty sure that's the same sort of thing I've been looking at, unfortunately the image is so blurry on my phone I can't exactly see what it says clearly but looks exactly what I did

candywoo · 25/04/2025 14:23

@StanleyParentsdid you have evidence of restraint in multiple settings? How old is your little one?

Knowing how hard it is to get HRM under the smi rule I wonder if they are just being picky, it seems like if there’s one little thing not on there or said in the wrong way and they say you can’t get it. I’ve just done the tests for smi through that website and my child has a sen pushchair and uses full time body reins that’s why I asked about these being classed as an aid.
