Oh i understand. Do they still get you to work if you have a husband who works full time? My little one is 3. They did make me go to a back to work meeting when she turned 3 but then said it was a mistake as my husband works full time. Does seem silly to give it in one hand and take it from you with the other but does make sense with the not needing to work if claiming that. Can you get element alone without allowance? Sorry for all the questions 🤣 no better person to ask than someone's whos got experience of it as Google confuses you!

My partner was self employed and they wanted me to go back to start looking for work when my daughter turned 3, that wouldn’t have been possible so I was thankful my sons Dla award came in time to go on carers allowance. Google is so confusing I even was confused when I found out about it on here 😂 but every little helps to care for are kiddies. Yes you can just claim the cares and disability elements through uc you don’t have to claim carers allowance.

Tonichatt2288 · 23/04/2025 20:21

Just a quick one aswel if you get lcwra for yourself you don't get carers element x

my carer only claims the uc element didn’t bother with carers allowance and he doesn’t have to look for work

Mummyof4children · 23/04/2025 20:42

Do you have to have someone with dla / pip to get the carrers element ?

thank you and you! i’ve rung at 12,16 & 20 weeks so far and was told it has been assigned to a decision maker but not yet with them, i’ve been told to ring back 27th may😫 this wait is just cruel x

do your 15 hours a week = over £196 a week (just checked new rates) if yes, you’ll not be eligible for carers allowance unfortunately, but you’d still be eligible for carers element to be added to UC which is £201 a month if your child is awarded MRC or higher, you will also get disabled child element added on to your claim which is £158 a month if awarded LRC or MRC and £495 a month if awarded HRC🫶

I get £192 a week so would that mean I would need to claim for both? Or can you only claim for one it’s very confusing, sorry with all the questions this is my first time so I’m new to it all x

Honestly if you are working I wouldn't even bother with carers allowance it won't benefit you financially, it's carers element on UC you should claim for
