So he currently gets MRC and LRM.

His first award came after ONLY filling out the application form, we was so new to it all and we just completed the form and hoped for the best.

Now we are a bit more savvy and understand the rules better. It's likely he has always been entitled to HRC and HRM in my opinion.

This time we've included his list of diagnoses which include ASD, PICA, Learning disability and a few others.

For his evidence we have:
EHCP
SALT Report
Statement from his school (he attends a specialist resource unit for children with additional needs)
Paediatrician Report
OT Report
Social Services referral and report (we included this as it specifically mentions his destructive behaviour and the need for property adjustments to ensure his safety)

And extra to the application form we have written that document of additional evidence (which totalled 4 pages!)

I used to be an assessor for apprenticeships and it was my job to look at documents and map out where it met certain criteria, it's what I've tried to do here and backup my claims with evidence.

I am hopeful this is enough, but only time will tell, his renewal is due 4th May so hopefully will know within the next few weeks!

Edit: I should add that he is 8 and we only started claiming when he was 5 despite being under a pediatrician since he was 3 so we was very late to all of this! He already has a blue badge from the council because of his challenges and His behaviour is just so challenging at times, these half terms are so killer!

Edited

This has been so helpful, thank you ☺️ It sounds like you have done an amazing job in getting all the evidence together to get the right award for your son, I will keep my finger crossed for you

Does anyone know what happens to the claim if they haven’t made a decision on the renewal in time? Do they just stop the claim?
I need to prepare and tell UC that he isn’t getting it on the interim if that is the case.

When is your renewal due? It sounds like they have been making the decision on renewals after your last payment and before the renewal date, so hopefully it should be done in time

It’s not til 27th of June but I’m a panicker and need everything in place. I just worry about overpayments on that I wouldn’t be able to pay it back on my credit wages.
Hopefully it will be sorted in time then. Thank you x

Im also waiting for my sons renewal his ends 12/7 and was scanned 4/3. So far since I’ve been watching these threads I haven’t seen anyone go past there renewal date, when I called they said they do it close to the renewal date so it either carries on as a new award or ends at the end of the award. I’m also waiting for my daughters COC which was scanned on 8/4 so I’m going to be here for a long time.

I think I’m just preparing myself for the worst. His care needs have not lessened and in school they have increased intervention. However with the government saying they are prioritising clearing the debt of the welfare system, I can see DLA being targeted the same way as PIP.

Lyannaa · 16/04/2025 21:39

Hi everyone. My DD’s forms went in in January and I received a letter a couple of weeks ago, saying sorry they hadn’t made a decision yet.

Today, I’ve finally received the result of DD’s autism assessment, which confirms a diagnosis.

Should I now send this report to the DWP? should I phone them? I’m thinking that if the DM is looking at it they probably won’t wait to receive the report and of course with Easter coming up, the timing isn’t great.

From what I've seen they are still on early-mid December, I would absolutely send it in! Maybe call them also to let them know you are sending in more evidence.

Don’t worry - it won’t be. They only seem to go for people of working age (bad enough but you see my point).

I have been on contact all night going through all the tests, making notes of what needs adding to each section etc now to write it all up when the kids are back at school and my brain can actually function 😂 it’s a brilliant site, I’m so glad you mentioned it i probably would have screw it up if not. Good luck with your decision, do you think you will call tomorrow? Or will you wait til next week?

Hanacrusis · 17/04/2025 01:00

Does anyone know how long it takes Universal Credit to back date the disabled child element after being awarded DLA?

Yay, amazing. Congratulations. I'm so April 1st. So I still have a long long way to go.

DaftLad · 17/04/2025 08:30

We’ve had DLA paid into the account today, backdated to 18th November which is when the forms were stamped.

New claim, scan date 13th December, received £2342.80 which I think looks like MRC and LRM, which is what we expected. So just short of 18 weeks since scan date, better than I expected considering how long some people have been waiting.

Hopefully they’re getting through claims quicker now and wait times will improve for everybody!
