Ahh, bless him, that’s a lot for him to deal with. I remember my boy had to have sedation when he was little to investigate his hearing and I was so worried but it did give us info we needed. Hope you get some answers soon, it’s the waiting and not knowing that’s the worst!

Oh definitely do you mind me asking if they do go the sedation route are you allowed to stay with them and what sort of tests do they run

There are lots of types and causes of deafness so your child may not need this, but the docs wanted to check my son for widened vestibular aqueducts as this is a condition that makes the hearing loss progressively worse and it means you have to be careful your child doesn’t accidentally knock their head playing football or bouncing on a trampoline etc. He had an MRI scan to check this and it luckily came back clear. He also had glue ear which made what hearing he did have much worse so he had grommets fitted which again involved general anaesthetic. I was allowed to lie on the bed next to him and cuddle him whilst they put him to sleep, then they wheeled him into theatre (whilst I cried my eyes out in the waiting room!) then they came to get me so I was there with a big smile when they brought him round in the recovery room afterwards and he was all groggy. He doesn’t have any memory of these procedures now! x

Aww ok they have ruled out bad hearing loss and glue ear with my boy it’s mild hearing loss or his hearing nerve for us glad they found the problem for you boy I know what u mean as my best friends little sister has the same thing as your boy she’s now 18 and thriving

What’s everyone using for evidence for DLA? As I don’t want to carry around the letters all time. LO is too young for the card as under 5 for the ones I found

Apply for access card, I still carry around the one letter and an access card, attractions accept access card, my son is 3 and gets HRC and HRM. If that's what you ment

StanleyParents · 16/04/2025 09:24

Scan date is when they received it and that’s how long they have for a decision but it can be backdated to when u called providing your forms wernt late

Ah, I never knew there was a connection between hearing loss and EDS! Bless your little lad just getting on with it all. Life is so much easier if you have a good TOD too. The hearing aids are still a choking hazard as they come apart into small pieces (batteries aside!) so if your boy also chews his, maybe it’s worth mentioning? Will keep every thing crossed it’s successful for him 🤞🤞

I never even thought to send in photos, that's a great idea I'll definitely do that! I've just had his next few sessions of speech and language appointments come through so I can add them in with it as well, I guess all the evidence you can send helps

NC - 31/12/24

I’ve just called as we are upto 15 weeks as stated in the original letter, she said it’s with a DM but could be upto 25 weeks. I’ve seen some of you a few weeks ahead are receiving your decisions so I’m hoping it’s only few more weeks, fingers crossed!!

I called yesterday SD 18/12 and still not even with DM yet 😂 I don’t ever know when they’re telling the truth or not or even how the cases get handed out. good luck!

Yes, they told.me they will backdate the money from when I card back in February and that was officially stamped on the form when I received it but my scan date is April 1st

Judgejudysno1fan · 16/04/2025 11:02

When I called* back in February, not card. Whoops

Tonichatt2288 · 16/04/2025 11:03

They said same with me about decision maker it's a absolute joke. Z

LoudAquaViper · 16/04/2025 11:31

NC SD 18/12

just called and it’s with a decision maker and got told they can confirm it’ll be days not weeks. I’m a nervous wreck right now!

staybyyou · 16/04/2025 11:41

@LoudAquaViperweirdly she said ‘I hate that question’ when I asked if it was with a DM. She said that it’s allocated to a DM as soon as it’s scanned in, and so it’s always with a DM. I was a bit confused tbh as that’s not how I thought it works.

Well I’ve always been told it’s in a ‘holding queue’ and hasn’t been allocated yet. Then when I called today she said she can confirm it’ll is with a DM now and can confirm it’ll be days rather than weeks. I can’t see how it gets allocated to a DM as soon as it comes in as some might get massively backlogged waiting for extra evidence etc.

LoudAquaViper · 16/04/2025 11:47

@staybyyoushe also asked me if I wanted to get a text message when a decision has been made which I said yes too. So I’m not sure if they automatically send texts

staybyyou · 16/04/2025 12:14

@LoudAquaViperah ok, maybe if I chase in a few weeks I will request a text message.

Someone up thread/on the previous thread quoted another term to use, not ‘with a DM’ but similar. But I can’t remember what it was, or find the post. I think she got asked if it was an audit call as it’s not well known but accurate.

Im not feeling positive about the outcome, but now we’re at the original deadline I just want to know. Good luck.
