DLA WAITING TIME THREAD 67

1000 replies

zoeybrooks45 · 25/03/2025 10:48

Please feel free to add your scan date and whether it's a new claim/mandatory reconsideration/change of circumstances or renewal.
New claims (NC) - people are being told the wait time has increased to 25 weeks! I would say most are done before this though around the 20 week mark?
Mandatory reconsideration (MC) and Change of circumstances (COC) is around 20-25 weeks.
Renewals tend to be between 15-20 weeks.
If you disagree with the outcome of an MR you can appeal and go to court (tribunal)
Scan date is the date DLA scan your application forms on to their system, if you downloaded your application forms then this will be from when your award will be backdated from. If you called up for forms then the date on those is the date yours will be backdated from.
If successful and claiming universal credit (UC) please update them as this will entitle you to disabled child element adding extra to your award.

Maybe people wouldn’t keep ringing if our letters didn’t say 15 weeks and we wouldn’t keep ringing if they didn’t tell us a different story every time some one rang
and done it in date order
what do they expect
and it doesn’t help when people are told it’s with a DM
like mine has been with. DM apparently for 8 weeks

Exactly this my claim got wrongly closed on the 10 however I never got told till 31st despite the fact I had rang up 3 times in this period no one even realised

StanleyParents · 05/04/2025 08:38

And now the weekend where we can do nothing but put it into the back of our heads and pretend it doesn't exist!

Daryl54 · 05/04/2025 09:01

I wish I could but I’m literally counting down the days as I only have 9 days left (excluding weekends) before my carers stops also 😭

That’s crazy, sorry to hear this, unfortunately I don’t know the time scale but I wish you all the best and hope it’s not too long.

Daryl54 · 05/04/2025 09:11

Thankyou so much @Ivalueloyaltyaboveallelse it’s a really big drop but don’t know how his care needs have gone much worse too xx

So sorry to hear this but 9 times out of 10 I think they are just making decisions with out even looking as there was 3 people a couple of weeks ago all awarded the same LRC in the same day must of been same decision maker (there child’s needs was definitely more then LRC)
but I am currently on a MR and i am currently on 22 weeks but I’m sure will be longer then the 25 weeks told as some one said yesterday they was told when they rang 29 weeks
absolutely ridiculous

Daryl54 · 05/04/2025 09:23

Thankyou so much @Sarahlou15 good luck with yours hope you hear soon 🙂 I know I’m just confused by it on the letter it said my son only needs one hour care in total a day when I put everythink down for night time needs and explained his condition that he’s under hospital for gonna be a long wait xx

I've literally put down multiple times that my son requires care almost all day and most of the night, on his EHCP and school letter they've also confirmed that he requires almost 1:1 care the whole time he is there, he is not independent at all, sorry you've had to suffer with this and now a 5 month wait! Ridiculous

Then it’s very obvious they don’t even look at all
it’s even more frustrating that it is going to be another 25week plus wait
on my MR I wrote a letter and bullet pointed there reasons against why they are not justifiable with what I wrote originally as it did not even make sense so they couldn’t of read properly
but I am not holding my breath with my MR
I think they are inundated with it and are rushing them all

s39 · 05/04/2025 09:52

Wait times are ridiculous I had to put in a MR as I was awarded LRC for dd they said she attends dance classes??! No where on the form dance was mentioned she can hardly walk!

s39 · 05/04/2025 09:53

Currently on week 10 another 15 plus weeks to wait!

But it pisses me off that it is an excuse in the first place as why shouldn’t someone with a disability be able to do things I know people in wheelchairs that play basketball some one who is a amputee from above the elbow but plays football
it’s discrimination
it really boils my piss
my son is autistic but he plays football for a autistic football team it’s for 20 mins once a week (that is if he goes or even stays 20 mins) but is proud he says he plays football
so does that mean he shouldn’t get DLA or low DLA
because it is the only thing he does and it isn’t simple thing for him like it would be someone else it’s a very hard battle for him

Daryl54 · 05/04/2025 10:16

Thankyou so much @StanleyParents hope you hear soon 🙂 unfortunately the school didn’t back up half of his evidence even though he has problems at school and had senco meetings feel like my son is getting failed xx

Daryl54 · 05/04/2025 10:41

@Sarahlou15 I agree they haven’t looked at his night time needs he suffer with persistent vomiting threw the night while he asleep he still sleeps with me as scared incase he chokes he’s under the hospital and trying different treatments for him. How long have you been waiting for now it’s a long fighting battle isn’t it xx

I am currently on 22 weeks MR
my 25weeks is the 25th
but it’s bank holiday week before so will probably be a further 2 weeks on top
and so say been with a DM since week 16

Daryl54 · 05/04/2025 11:59

When I spoke to them yesterday they said the 25 weeks includes the Easter holiday it's git to be done by that 25th week i was stressing about that and it being another week but they said it's by the specific date they gave you for your decisionxx

My LO was awarded LRC too, I put in for a MR and they said they will have a decision by 22nd May, but my little one is struggling to walk as his whole body goes stiff and the only way I can describe it is the way a child with cerebral palsy walks but he doesn’t have cerebral palsy, I took him to the doctors and they said it could be sensory and to see what the paediatrician thinks, he has his follow up for autism diagnosis on Monday but I wrote on the DLA form about him physically struggling to walk inside and outdoors (he’s 3), they said because of his age that kids his age will need support with following direction and dangers when outside, I didn’t write anything about him being a danger to himself outside as he’s in a buggy or carried as he physically struggles to walk without having a meltdown or laying on the ground as his little body is sore from the way he walks and it’s pretty much common sense that child at 3 would need help with safety outside. I wasn’t even fussed about mobility as I know it’s hard to get and you surely would have to have some sort of diagnosis but LRC was a big slap in the face considering I put all his day care needs which are more than a typical almost 4 year old and at the time of forms he was an ok sleeper but took hours to actually go to sleep but over the past few months he was barely sleeping 3/4 hours of sleep a night and was prescribed melatonin the same day his decision was made so another 6 weeks wait to see if he gets awarded higher X

Cinnamoncupcake · 05/04/2025 15:51

Does any know how being on melatonin effects your award? My son is on melatonin and I’ve just done his renewal but wondered if it works in our favour as proving he has night time needs or as a negative because some nights it helps him to sleep all night?

I spoke to someone from contact about this as my son has recently been put on melatonin to help him sleep. I included it in my renewal alongside my doctor's reasoning and a clinical leaflet about it.

Unfortunately my son can not stand medicine in any way (even though it's a 2mm tablet) he just won't take it even disguised in other food etc.

I think the thing to mention about melatonin is it doesn't work with 100% accuracy, on the few occasions we did get it inside of him one time he was awake every few hours and another he woke up after being asleep for 2 hours ready to start the day!

StanleyParents · 05/04/2025 16:26

During some partial free time I decided to ask chatGPT about DLA, I then sent it some of my supporting information and it went through it and summarised what it thinks my son would be entitled too, it then offered to create a supporting document to concisely summarise everything.

For those of you who may struggle with this kind of thing it may be a worthwhile thing to look into!

Fyi chatGPT seems to think with the supporting evidence I have given he would be entitled to HRC and HRM, so let's see!

Unfortunately the free version only allows you to upload a few documents so when I can do it again out of curiosity I am going to see what it thinks my daughter would be entitled too

I know it would never happen but I honestly think the wait time a MR should be shorter as they have all the information it should be passed to another DM to look at it again and inform us with a decision instead of making us wait 25 weeks!

s39 · 05/04/2025 17:42

My MR has only been 10 weeks yet so I have another 15 weeks which mid June I think
