Please feel free to add your scan date and whether it's a new claim/mandatory reconsideration/change of circumstances or renewal.
New claims (NC) - people are being told the wait time has increased to 25 weeks! I would say most are done before this though around the 20 week mark?
Mandatory reconsideration (MC) and Change of circumstances (COC) is around 20-25 weeks.
Renewals tend to be between 15-20 weeks.
If you disagree with the outcome of an MR you can appeal and go to court (tribunal)
Scan date is the date DLA scan your application forms on to their system, if you downloaded your application forms then this will be from when your award will be backdated from. If you called up for forms then the date on those is the date yours will be backdated from.
If successful and claiming universal credit (UC) please update them as this will entitle you to disabled child element adding extra to your award.

Scan date 12/12. New claim. Payment for MRC and LRM paid this morning. Was very surprised to hear so soon.

Congratulations! Wow, that is quick. Same scan date as me so that’s 16 weeks, 1 day. Hope they are speeding up a bit x

PositivityRipples · 04/04/2025 09:41

@SoapyMcSoapface Sorry just seen you had tagged me in your question..
Yes absolutely send that as additional evidence especially if your child masks at school and you haven't sent any previous school incidences for inappropriate / unmasked behaviour as it will support your claim and also if the DM was to contact the school and they sugar coat things or say your child is okay at school the DM has that report from you that contradicts that.. I know the tracked postage is alot and you're probably close to a decision but if that 1 piece of evidence changes the DMs mind between rates it's totally worth sending it..
Good luck keep us updated on your progress 🤞🏼

Hey everyone, I put a complaint in to UC for the amount of time it has taken to be backdated (disability element and carers element) and I received this message today. Do they usually keep to their time frame?

This was for my older sons DLA, I am actually waiting to hear back from DLA about my younger sons claim (SD 12.12) as they are both disabled with the same condition.

Good morning, can i ask how you got this escalated please? Im having the same problem, they are just not communicating with me. Ive received 1 letter yesterday on journaling saying they have issued £487 for my latest assessment period where the disability element has been now added to claim. However no response regarding backdated payment which pay what so ever. Its becoming really frustrating.

MistandFog2024 · 04/04/2025 09:50

Hi I requested the back payment from uc for disabled child element and carers element and got a response a couple of days later to say that they agree to the backdating of both elements and that it will be adjusted from the beginning of our uc claim, the letter was dated April 1st just wondering if anyone knows roughly how long it will take to get the payment? Thanks x

I used the official complaint form online. The backdated money has now been issued and arrived in my bank this morning! 😊

If you Google UC complaint form it should come up, however you can only complain if it has been at least 1 month since you made the change of circumstances and haven't had a decision and backpay yet

Just a little update for the thread..
N/C sd 22/11
Decision made of 26/03
Awarded LRC only from 24/10 for 2 years.
MR sent off yesterday special delivery should arrive with them today.

I've marked as urgent and explained why i feel it's urgent so I'll see where I get with that 😂
My child is definitely entitled to HRC and LRM.

For anyone who doesn't know if you send an email to your local council or the head teacher of your child's school and request a " subject access request" and request your child's school file, any plans in place, any emails between you and school any internal emails between the school and other agencies regarding your child, any incidences, behaviour logs and any referalls they have sent and all other info on your child they have 28 days by law to print off and provide you with all of it..
I picked up 786 pages on my child yesterday from school and most of it I didn't have or didn't even know thee discussions between teachers and sen and other support had happened.
178 of the pages were incident reports and behaviour logs on my child and the teachers asking each other is this child Asd ( as no diagnosis as yet) otherd saying child had to be restrained, incidences of child kicking glass doors and only stopping when teachers stood in front of it, glass beads being thrown with force, notice boards being ripped off the wall, internal emails to safeguarding, internal emails to early help, internal emails asking each other to should they refer to Mash as child is out of control, lock down protocol action has child was hitting staff and pupils, throwing chairs and lots of other things that I didn't even know all of the incidences had happened.. High level risk factors for physical violence and unable to regulate.. Also emails between the mainstream and the academy my child attended which were talking about me! Saying I'm unsupportive all because I was at the hospital with my younger son having a brain scan and they called me and asked if I could collect my child from school as he's dysregulated and I said no I'm just a bout to go into brain scan with my 7 year old and they've emailed each other stating I'm unsupportive and should they involve social care and support so that was interesting to see 😂
Anyway the schools hold alot of info on children that you don't even know about and alot of it could support dla claims so just to be aware you can request this through a subject access request and by law they have to provide you with it within the timescale of 28 days.

Sorry, once you logged the complaint how long did it take for a reply?
I see yours was for a MR, how comes you needed to do a MR.
not only do we have the stress of waiting so long for a decision on dla, we have the stress of this too.

I don't know why it says MR, I just asked for it backdated on 3rd March when my oldest son was awarded DLA and I had no other correspondence from them. They took over 4 weeks so I put a complaint in on Wednesday and then yesterday they sent that letter saying they've backdated it and it's arrived in my bank this morning.

did you complain under the “time frame” section or “payments” can you remember hun? And when you complain it says someone will call you, did someone actually call?

I can't even remember sorry, but in the text box I explained how long I've been waiting and why I didn't do a change of circumstances sooner. I didn't get a call, just something on my journal to say it's been sent to a decision maker a few hours after I made the complaint, then the letter above :)

@Kittenheaven23 You're welcome.. They will respond to you and say they will gather the info within the 28-30 legal time frame and they will ask for the child's birth certificate ( to prove you have parental responsibility) and if the child is 13 or above then written consent from the child to access the info..
I'm pretty sure my child's school was like s**t she's going to see all our internal emails and comms 😂🤣
The amount of emails between the school teachers senco the local authority and the EP and all the other agencies was like 230 pages long...
When I picked it all up I was like oh my god over 700 pages..
But atleast I have it all now and know what they are all talking about.. And it's a massive amount of evidence.
