DLA WAITING TIME THREAD 67

Please feel free to add your scan date and whether it's a new claim/mandatory reconsideration/change of circumstances or renewal.
New claims (NC) - people are being told the wait time has increased to 25 weeks! I would say most are done before this though around the 20 week mark?
Mandatory reconsideration (MC) and Change of circumstances (COC) is around 20-25 weeks.
Renewals tend to be between 15-20 weeks.
If you disagree with the outcome of an MR you can appeal and go to court (tribunal)
Scan date is the date DLA scan your application forms on to their system, if you downloaded your application forms then this will be from when your award will be backdated from. If you called up for forms then the date on those is the date yours will be backdated from.
If successful and claiming universal credit (UC) please update them as this will entitle you to disabled child element adding extra to your award.

I'm on carers my sons original award started 21/03/×4 I had no idea I could claim carers element aswell as the dla ..the dla comes straight out of my uc so I don't get any paymnet for caring basically x

You also might be able to backdate carers element to your original dla award date so in the change of circumstances put the original dla award date and then put a note in journal saying why you are late reporting it because you didn't know about it x

Hi, I need some advice please. @PositivityRipples you may be able to help please.

DS has diagnosed ADHD and suspected ASD (not diagnosed yet). I’ve explained on the form how he can behave inappropriately at home and doesn’t always understand personal space and boundaries. He masks at school but is finding it increasingly hard to do so and yesterday I had a bad behaviour ‘Demerit’ message/complaint home from his class teacher. She wrote a paragraph explaining that in school yesterday my son had been smacking another boy on the bum and my son thought this was funny behaviour so she had to explain that it was actually really inappropriate (he’s 13).

I was wondering if this short message from a teacher complaining about behaviour was good additional evidence to send, or is it not a good idea? Plus is it actually worth the £8.50 next day postage to send in as it’s only really short and we’re at 16 weeks today 🤔.
TIA

Has anyone with a COC had an update yet?

Tonichatt2288 · 03/04/2025 20:19

Do you mean you're on carers allowence and not getting uc cares element? If so go into your uc and go into report a change and you can put in that you care for your child 35+ hours a week and that should start off the process for the uc carers element. From what I've read you can claim both the carers allowance and the uc carers element at the same time but the carers allowance still gets deducted from uc monthly x

Tha you that'd really helpful yes I get just carers allowance but I didn't know you could get carers element also I was never told about it. X

I would absolutely send it in, I think it shows his inability to grasp certain social situations.

Personally on my son's renewal forms I paid like £6 for postage for first class signed for which is supposed to be next day, it took 6 days.

I paid £3.60 for tracked and it got there next day.

Royal mail for you!

I didn't know about it either till today. I know i clicked the things in change of circumstance to say i was a carer for over 35 hours but I thought that was part of what i had to do to confirm dla award and claim uc disability element. Only cos the woman on the phone told me what it was today and that it's an extra amount that I hadn't calculated in at all. Glad it's helped you to know too, you should definitely go on uc and do the change of circumstances for caring for someone x

No not yet but I might consider applying for it because even though it gets taken off uc it adds ni credits so there is some benefit in having it. Don't actually know how to apply for it though so I'll have a look into it x

I’m actually glad I found this thread anytime I tried to post on the facebook group it would get declined but I’m wondering if anyone else had there claim randomly closed without a decision after going to a case manager

Thanks @StanleyParents I was thinking it was supporting what I was saying is going on at home.
Think I might take a chance on the £3.60

Same scan date as mine 😁 I'm hoping for a decision by end if may early June by the latest 🙈 the closer it gets the harder the wait is x

Whatalongwait · 04/04/2025 03:18

NC SD 29/10. Received a phone call Thursday afternoon. Awarded HRC and HRM. Its been 23 weeks. I'm a bit numb and can't sleep. I think it's the "official" recognition of the utter hell we've been living since the start of my daughter's illness two years ago. I don't think I would have managed a mandatory reconsideration if she was declined, so relief too. Best of luck to all those still waiting for a decision.

Scan date 12/12. New claim. Payment for MRC and LRM paid this morning. Was very surprised to hear so soon.

Really! My goodness they don't have any sort of ordering system do they! It does seem to be pot luck, so unfair this waiting xx

Definitely I’m paranoid as my claim got closed without a decision on the 10th march and wasn’t reopened till I called on Monday lucky they put it back to where it was but instead of giving it back to a case manager they gave it straight to a decision maker
