DLA WAIT TIME THREAD 62

1000 replies

zoeybrooks45 · 11/01/2025 22:06

Please feel free to add your scan date and whether it's a new claim/mandatory reconsideration/change of circumstances or renewal.
New claims (NC) - people are being told the wait time has increased to 25 weeks! I would say most are done before this though around the 20 week mark?
Mandatory reconsideration (MC) and Change of circumstances (COC) is around 20-25 weeks.
Renewals tend to be between 15-20 weeks.
If you disagree with the outcome of an MR you can appeal and go to court (tribunal)
Scan date is the date DLA scan your application forms on to their system, if you downloaded your application forms then this will be from when your award will be backdated from. If you called up for forms then the date on those is the date yours will be backdated from.
If successful and claiming universal credit (UC) please update them as this will entitle you to disabled child element adding extra to your award.
DLA contact number is 121 4600 0800 121 4600

My NC scan date was 10/09 and decision made last Friday 10/01 May be worth a chase? I found option 4 most helpful when calling.

Thank you I think I might do that on Monday morning. Really hope they can tell me something 🤞

dla claim for son who is 15 who was diagnosed with adhd in sept after 8 years of fighting to get him help he is 16 in august will this effect the dla claim

No my son’s scan date was 3 days before his 16th birthday and he’s been awarded until August 2025. He will be 17 and 2 days when his DLA expires. They will ask you if you want to continue to be the appointee or will your son be in charge of his claim once he turns 16. You just fill in a form and send it back. Apparently pip will contact me closer to when his DLA ends to put in a claim.

Congratulations @Katone. I’m hoping for the same outcome.

MR SD 21/08

I called yesterday and was advised it’s not with a DM yet. I’m currently in hospital with my child who has had surgery that has gone wrong. So I’ve told them all about that and said I obviously don’t have the report yet as we’re still here. Week 2 in hospital now.

Hi all just a quick question on here. Do universal credit backdate the benefit capped money aswell as child disabled element and carers element please?

I started universal credit in August and that is when my sons claim start date is from and I was benefit capped up until this month when they lifted the cap but my question is do they backdate the benefit capped money aswell?

Thank you :) x

I think I’ve read somewhere on the Facebook groups that they do. Maybe it’s worth asking on one of the groups.

Do they work weekends ? Don’t mean answering calls but wondering if they look at applications. The wait is awful (scan date 30/9) thank you

What's your SD Zoey? Mines 6/8 for COC and I honestly don't know how much longer I can wait 😂 I was fine until I hit 20 weeks!

At this point I'm just preparing for an MR...

PicklelilyBobtail · 18/01/2025 15:25

NC SD 30/08. Going to call Monday and see if we’re any closer to a decision. Got a feeling it’s not going to be good news.

Princess23 · 18/01/2025 18:01

S/d mr 8/8 hope not much longer know congratulations to all awarded and 🤞to all use waiting let’s all hope for positive news soon x

PositivityRipples · 18/01/2025 18:05

@Mumofnine Yes they do lift the benefit cap once you've claimed the carer element of uc or carers allowance the benefit cap will be lifted from the date the carers applies to but you need to put a message on your journal under " payment" and write, hello I'm now claiming DLA for child and the rate and I'm also claiming carers from ( date) please can you ask the decision maker to lift my benefit cap from that date and recalculate my previous statements based on a " supersession special circumstances" thank you.
The cap will then be lifted and under a supersession ( a supersession basically means when another benefit has been applied under your national insurance number and that other benefit give you an automatic entitlement to a recalculation of money you are owed due to a benefit cap lift or a previous backdated entitlement to carers, dla or pip. Hope that helps

PositivityRipples · 18/01/2025 18:07

@JW070116 yes DMs still working weekdays until 8pm and Saturdays and Sundays ( Saturday and Sundays is less DMs than weekdays though)

GraceS25 · 18/01/2025 18:12

@PositivityRipples
thank you for that information 😘
I’m going ring Monday see if there is an update

PositivityRipples · 18/01/2025 18:14

@zoeybrooks45 Just been waiting for a response, the jist of the response was.. There's no deadline dates ( July had deadline dates to wrap up for Christmas and also to reduce waiting times) there is a target overall to get all dla wait times down to 16-18 weeks though, NC are being prioritised under hardship rules for disabled parents, MR already have an active award in place so are mostly coming after NC except where it was a decline, renewals are apparently on target already and are done before previous award has ran out. Coc are same as MR if an award is already in place they prioritised NC first. But all wait times are targeted to be reduced to 16-18 weeks... 16 being NC and 18 being MR and COC.
Some DMs have been placed on September and beginning of Oct claims apparently.
Here's hoping

PositivityRipples · 18/01/2025 18:44

For anyone else who doesn't know or didn't know if you are under the benefit cap and you claim carers allowance or the carer element of uc ( from the date you claim carers you're exempt from the benefit cap) so if carers is backdated you can ask the DM at UC to lift your benefit cap from the carers award date and they have to give you back ALL the capped money... They don't always do this automatically so you have to request it on the journal if you write ( under a supersession special circumstances) you would like it lifted from the carer award date they can't refuse ( a supersession is a DWP legal termology) so use this word 😁
Good luck everyone still waiting for DLA the wait is horrible, long and fucking annoying 😩 and I hope they get the wait times down ASAP.. Hold in there you're all doing amazing looking after your children they deserve to be able to have all they need to make things a little easier for them and you that includes the money... Let's face it the battles with schools, neurodevelopmental services, camhs and every other agency with a wait time of 100 business years is already hard enough without the dla wait aswell... Where's my damn money 🤪 I joke I joke
