DLA WAIT TIME THREAD 62

1000 replies

zoeybrooks45 · 11/01/2025 22:06

Please feel free to add your scan date and whether it's a new claim/mandatory reconsideration/change of circumstances or renewal.
New claims (NC) - people are being told the wait time has increased to 25 weeks! I would say most are done before this though around the 20 week mark?
Mandatory reconsideration (MC) and Change of circumstances (COC) is around 20-25 weeks.
Renewals tend to be between 15-20 weeks.
If you disagree with the outcome of an MR you can appeal and go to court (tribunal)
Scan date is the date DLA scan your application forms on to their system, if you downloaded your application forms then this will be from when your award will be backdated from. If you called up for forms then the date on those is the date yours will be backdated from.
If successful and claiming universal credit (UC) please update them as this will entitle you to disabled child element adding extra to your award.
DLA contact number is 121 4600 0800 121 4600

NC SD 29/8/24 just off the phone which was answered straight away. Spoke to a really lovely lady who told me no decision yet but its currently with a decision maker. She said it really shouldn't be too long but they have to say 25 weeks because they've been told it could be a maximum of that. But that doesn't mean its taking that long. Just that they have to say that

Scan Date 25th October, New Claim

Andrea1987 · 15/01/2025 10:24

It's taking well over 20 weeks for new claims. I applied in August they told me to ring 8th Jan as they was 20 weeks. When I called they told me it hadn't even been handed to a decision maker yet

zoeybrooks45 · 15/01/2025 10:46

Just called for an update during my work break as it’s occupying my mind 🤣

MR 20/08 21 weeks. Not allocated still in holding que

the lady stated it would have to be allocated by week 22 to get a decision in time. So I am guessing those over week 22 are allocated already even if they say otherwise. I am 25 weeks on the 11/02. This is absolutely draining. I am going to send some additional evidence and try not to worry.

it seems we are on the first two weeks of August for MR. as everyone in July has had there decision. Xx

How long after a Coc decision be made can you send extra evidence in?

T113 · 15/01/2025 11:06

Scan date 2/10/24

COC 30/7

5 year old son, ASD, non-verbal and GDD. Just started SLD school last week. Still waiting but haven't called yet think I'll give it a go. He's currently only on MRC. Feel he's entitled to HRC but at the time of applying the first time I had a lot of other things I was dealing such as EHCP and fighting for a school place for him. Also applied for his mobility element. Not feeling hopeful that will get the HRC as didn't have much more evidence other than the fact he had been prescribed melatonin due to on going sleep issues. It's so hard to get evidence for it as obviously no one is there to do see the issues we're having. I also keep being told he should be entitled to HRM but again other than reports from paediatrician there's not massive evidence of the issues we're having when out and about. He just shuts down when out and at 5 it's becoming increasingly hard to carry him. Feel like we've already waited so long so if it's a no will have an even longer fight and wait for it.

This is the same as me, my son is 6 he can walk but it is so unsafe to himself and others. He has 0 sense of dangers. No matter what we try to explain. Thought it would get better as he got older but it isnt sadly. If we cannot be in a car or taxi etc I won't go. It's quite sad really

Nikitoogood · 15/01/2025 11:24

It was exact 15 weeks.

1102s · 15/01/2025 11:25

For HRC you need to evidence substantial day and night needs. So night time needs is when the child is awake for majority of the night or requires attention 3+ times a night or something like that. My son need supervision at all times as he’s a danger to himself and others and he is awake from around 1/2am in the morning and that’s him for the day🤦🏽‍♀️ my son is also non verbal, still in nappies and has a very limited diet. He gets hrc&hrm x

I have been told its with decision maker! I did MR after renewal and made them aware of the difficulties we have out and about and daily and through the night, they had already awarded hrc and lrm after coc, but when renewal came I added so much more evidence in renewal and when it was getting close to the time the guy basically said they are so far behind they are just extending and im guessing that's what they did because the list of reason was exactly the same as the coc award. When infact I'd submitted so much more. I am arguing only the mobility side. It's currently with DM so we will see over next few days.

can you get a referral from the gp to wheelchair services for a disability buggy. My son has one and it’s made journeys somewhat easier! We don’t use it all the time as I do like to encourage the walking but when it’s busy/noisey or places we are unfamiliar with it’s been an absolute god send. The meltdowns are still there but it’s a lot safer him headbanging in the buggy than on concrete floor🤦🏽‍♀️

Called to see when it was passed to a DM but the woman on the phone wouldn't tell me, is that normal? I called yesterday and they told me it's with a DM but I forgot to ask when it was assigned to them and the lady today just kept repeating 'you'll get a letter when a decision is made'

And when on little journeys and we’re walking we are just transitioning over from a wrist restraint to a body one now as the strength on my boy is getting a joke😂😂

I didnt even know that we could do that! When we go shopping etc I take a normal buggy or get him in a trolley it looks ridiculous in a buggy clearly not for his size! But like you say if it's busy noisy he can't cope. He will himself now say he will stay with nanny. He doesn't like it. And I'm the same I try to encourage walking where we can and safely. I will look into it.! Thanks

That's it the older he gets the stronger a quicker he is, I've swapped hands over before split second he seen people walking towards him panicked and his mind went there's no people in the road I'll go there.!!! It's madness thst was all in about 3 seconds. Their excuse to me was he is fine in the playground at school you said he plays.!!! I said I made it abundantly clear he can walk! He just isn't safe and a playground is a gated safe place! How can that be a good enough reason to refuse hrm. I was so mad.

yeah I had a normal buggy for my boy but cause he’s quite tall his feet were dragging along the floor. I rang the gp asked for them to put a referral through due to no danger awareness and extreme behaviour outdoors. Took about 6 weeks and got an appointment, went to the place and they prescribed him one on the day and honestly haven’t looked back since😅 also I rang up DLA and made them aware that he now has the buggy from wheelchair services and the decision maker used that to make a decision also

We have a wrist strap and reign type things for him. But like I said now he's getting to the point if he knows its busy he'd rather not go, and wants to escape to nanny's house.

So my letter for MR, I made it aware to them that my child can walk, run, climb the lot, every bit of evidence said how he runs and climbs, but he isn’t safe indoors or outdoors and needs constant supervision, the decision makers hate awarding HRM and they decline in hopes people don’t appeal

It's been that long I can't think if I mentioned the buggy or the wrist straps/reigns. I hope i did. Oh man I'm so nervous I don't want tribunal. The last award was till 2028, so no chance a renewal before that time only think I could do is try through the avenue of change of circumstance. But I'm not sure that possible either.
