Hi everyone, been stalking for a while. We are on wait 17 today. Called this morning and was told it’s now 25 weeks and that I’ll have a decision by February. That’s twice they’ve moved the date. Asked him why it’s taking so long he said they have had a influx of new claims and are backlogged.

really starting to frustrate me now because every time I call it’s a new date to wait till. First it was late November then first week in January now February. Feel like this time next year will still be waiting! Im going to ask for it to be escalated if not heard anything by first week of Jan, my friend did the same and decision was made within 48 hours

@Tacsmumma it's unbelievable. I'm not at 20 weeks yet but people I had been speaking to on here with the same scan dates have now been awarded and yet there's many of us still here.
Does anyone think area is actually making a difference? Does it work that way do you think? Or just centrally managed and some DMs are getting through claims much quicker? It's like trying to piece together a riddle honestly due to the inconsistency in their approach and the info given. I'm in the south west.

I’ve never worked for DWP but I’ve worked in a similar job where we would work cases on a daily basis. My guess would be that they have an inbox with all the cases in, in date order that they were scanned. Then probably each employee will take maybe 50 or 100 cases at the start of their shift from and move them to their own personal workload. Then whatever they haven’t completed at the end of the day will get dropped back into the main inbox and the process starts again the next day. Which could be why some later dates get worked before earlier ones if that makes sense. I don’t know fort certain but that’d be my guess x

This is me too. If I’ve not heard by the time this year is out I will be ramping up the calls and speaking with DMs on a regular basis. My son hasn’t been in full time education since year 3 primary, he’s year 8 now. Are there specialist settings in your area for primary kids? We have one here but my son was declined due to them being unable to meet need. He’s over your way for his high school setting. We had that many declines, 9 off the top of my head. What my real worry is that one day me and his dad won’t be here and he won’t be able to access the support by himself. He’s just being left even school haven’t been in touch despite him having not been in for 2 weeks straight.

Yes there’s 3 that I can think of. I’ve found a really good one that I want him in which is reception to year 11 which would be perfect as the transitioning for him is hard. Dunno what it is when a child gets into secondary it’s like no one cares anymore. It’s horrible

Kc1999x · 11/12/2024 09:46

SKB12 · 11/12/2024 09:14

I don’t think you’ve been declined. It’s more of what we’ve been seeing with them doing claims out of date order.

I feel like it’s been declined

That’s exactly how it is! They are only meant to spend 30 minutes per claim making a decision. If extra evidence is needed it’s requested then thrown back into the queue again and they move onto the next one.

I don’t understand how DLA is taking longer than PIP. My friend claimed PIP and had a decision within 4 weeks of them receiving the form and that included having a telephone assessment too. Yet DLA is taking nearly half a year to make decisions

Not sure what the case handler could do tbh🤷🏽‍♀️ it’s not been 25 weeks

Misstigger89 · 11/12/2024 10:20

Thank you dm was unsure of rates on hold waiting to ask good luck with your dates

Nicnacnoo82 · 11/12/2024 10:21

What is the role of the case handler?

Sorry if someone has already said but I'm not entirely clear on the process, not sure even DWP are!

DoyouknowSher · 11/12/2024 10:21

You can ask for it to be fast tracked. Sounds awful but you need to really lay it on thick and they will mark it as urgent. I really do think they need to work on their time scales and send letters out based on the time scales of when their form was scanned on, 25 weeks is a long time to wait especially when it was originally 15

Probably phone tomorrow now should hopefully be scanned on then he said as soon as it’s scanned on he can message the dm directly untill then he’s added a note to say I’ve sent and it’s received ready for scanning 🤞🤞 it’s on by the end of this week x

Sorry if someone has already said but I'm not entirely clear on the process, not sure even DWP are!

a Disability Living Allowance (DLA) decision maker, or case manager, is responsible for assessing a claim and making an eligibility and entitlement decision. The case manager and decision maker are the same person, just called different by different people who answer the phone.

DWP - department for work and pension. They are the central body for benefits

Emat19833 · 11/12/2024 10:25

Will do I'll ring about 1.30pm
Fingers crossed for you x

So sorry this breaks my heart how is your son doing its so sad the school aren't even offering some type of alternative education i know SEN children can access online learning if their attendance is low the referral i believe has to made by the school.
whats the senco doing sounds like we are on our own always having to fight its so infair they have it so hard as it is this is what we fight for to get our children what they are entitled to but when we are gone ...this is the real worry 😔x

I’m not bothering to contact school. With regular schools if your child misses a day they say it’s a safeguarding concern and to get in touch. Although the school know he refuses to go in most days told think they’d contact. I have had a word with his plan coordinator and told her they don’t provide him with anything as I’m asking for payments out of his EHCP since most of his time is spent here and not at school and with that money we can buy him resources instead! I’ve just chased the plan co up today as she said she would speak to her line manager and only working Monday to Wednesday. I want as much support for my son in place while we are here to help him as there is no way without an adult supporting him that he would have the foggiest idea of how to do it by himself. I had hoped as he got older he would cope better but he’s actually got worse since school went back in January after the last Christmas holidays so we are talking a year now coming up!
