Thanks luvvie I had 6 children I lost my eldest daughter who was ASD to osteosarcoma in 2020 even when she was going through chemotherapy the hospital liason clicc Sargent (now called young lives vs cancer)had to do the DLA form as she kept telling me that my late daughter was entitled but as I had no time for trying to apply due to so much stress with my eldest daughter's 1st line chemotherapy even then it was a mess they take advantage of our vulnerability despite so many challenges we face day and night

Then have 4 other daughters aged 6-13 years and a 1 year old son soon to be 2 in Feb x
20 -25 weeks-30 weeks is completely unacceptable I do feel to make a complaint but scared they would then make me go to tribunal which I will if I have to x

Yes you are right I will call them and tell them that thank you I hate speaking on the phone due to anxiety but I force myself when I have to for my kids x

So sorry to hear about your eldest daughter, how awful. 5 children to support and financial difficulties is still a good enough reason for them to escalate it. I also think they rely on parents being in turmoil and them not to seek help and sane again when they issue a lesser award they expect families to go to MR and tribunal but then it makes it look like why didn’t just award it, the parents had to fight for it. We will go to tribunal too. I don’t want to but if that’s our only choice if MR doesn’t go in our favour then I will as my 13 year old doesn’t have the voice or mental capacity to fight for what he is entitled to. I did mine through UC journal, that's a really what they advise to do also leaves a trail so I wouldn’t worry over having to make a call xx

Just called them telling them about our financial status and my other 2 SEN children 1 of whom are on the pathway and one awaiting til I'm ready to start his and the man put me through to a case handler who said its a secondary benefit as it's my daughters 1st claim MR that they can't escalate it as its a secondary benefit and taking up to 24 weeks... I asked why the letter states 11 weeks and no updated timescale she admitted they haven't the staff to do so
Just feel so deflated and fed up of it all tbh these people have no heart
Congratulations on all the awards today guys x

That can escalate if it gets near or past the deadline date. I asked why they were giving out September award instead of July and August, no knowledge of that. They are definitely working from home I could hear a dog barking continuously!

SKB12 · 27/11/2024 16:55

Makes sense doesn’t it at least Scotland have things running better maybe as they can upload their evidence online hence speeding up the process

I agree we have to fight as no one else will for our kids they have it hard as it is
You are correct they do rely on us not seeking help but I advise each and every SEN parent /guardian to fight til the end as they rely on us giving up what's rightful for our kids...😣x

Thank you hun honestly wouldn't wish it on anyone if it wasn't for my other children I wouldn't have to live with the pain

You are right to be your 13 year olds voice as this will be continued throughout their life and this will help set longer awards things like ASD don't just get better they dont disappear gosh 😖xx

It’s them not wanting us to challenge their decision that drives me. I was shocked to read that they don’t have medical experience and rely on guidance notes, and we should accept any wrong decisions based off of that. I’m not as prepared as I need to be for tribunal but I will get help if needed

I'm not prepared for tribunal yet but I will ensure these sleepless nights mostly due to my 10 year old ASD daughter waking with outbursts thankfully 6year old asd daughter and 1 year old nearly 2 asd son don't have night time needs so will use the quiet inbetween times she goes back off to sleep to study and prep for tribunal as I'm seriously expecting them not to even look at it properly again
They do not read the evidence as then the wrong award wouldn't have been given in 1st place its awful they don't have medical experience as would be so much easier for medical professionals to make the right awards for the right needs etc 😣x

PollyH3 · 27/11/2024 18:57

Thank you everyone. Feels like it was a long time coming. Will make such a difference for my son though. I really hope everyone gets the awards their children deserve, life is already hard enough without a further fight on our hands.

Just incase anyone was wondering I was a new claim, S/D 16/07, only evidence supplied was speech therapist report who was supplying evidence for EHCP and an acceptance form onto the ADHD pathway. Awarded HRC and LRM for two years! So awarded at 19 weeks exactly. Good luck to all you lovely people I hope you all get what you’re waiting for sooner rather than later! The wait times are ridiculous 😒
