original claim date: date you called up for the forms and you will be backdated

UC : universal credit
DWP: department of work and pensions
DM: decision maker; the person who assesses each claim and awards/decline a case

number for an update 0800 121-4600

We claimed for carers element on 15/11. Told we would get a decision by 14/12 but nothing about how long payment would take. Message was quite rude!

I moved over to universal credit in May from tax credits and I’ve found all the staff I’ve dealt with rude and unhelpful! Dragged into the job centre to prove I am who I am even though I’ve been on tax credits for years, made to prove my son is at school even though I have informed them he is in a specialist learning school with a full EHCP placing him there but they insisted I prove it! I brought all the stuff to show the guy and he didn’t even ask to see it! When dealing with backdated DLA through tax credits it was in the bank within a week! I hate universal credit it feels like it was set up to do make it as hard as possible for people to claim!

I preferred tax credits too. UC is designed to get people in to work and sanction them if they don’t I think. I was advised on here to make a complaint which I did, and that’s what the rude response was about. They went from saying no timescale to 14/12 due date for a decision on a back payment!

sd 29/7. 18 weeks plus one. Phoned yesterday no update and so tempted to phone back today! Trying to leave it till tomorrow

Ali200 · 03/12/2024 12:11

My back pay was released yesterday how long will it take to show up in my bank x

addies · 03/12/2024 12:15

@Tasham25 I'm resisting the urge too. I wonder if we can both last the day 😂 so tempting to speak to someone different and see what they say!!

Supamummyof3 · 03/12/2024 12:18

Hello all,

Long time lurker, congratulations to all those awarded and have received the awards their children deserve. Those that are still waiting, hopefully it will be worth it in the end.

@Chloe132 I am in the same situation as you. COC with a SD of 12/07. Called yesterday and the guy was really nice he transferred me to someone else and they then apologise and marked it as urgent. The NotTrustingTheSystemMe called again this morning to make sure it was marked as urgent, and they confirmed it was.

Such a long wait, kind of readying myself for a MR, as I feel like it will go down that route.

Hold tight, hopefully we don't need to wait much longer! Xx

How did you complain? I only informed them on the 28/11 about the fact he had been awarded but I don’t want to wait months If I don’t have to I’ll leave it a couple more weeks before saying anything! I can’t see what the hold up is about to be honest it’s not like they’re still being assessed they’ve been awarded so they’re are entitled to the DLA element of universal credit I don’t see why they can’t just apply it when they rework the monthly award like tax credits used to do! So infuriating I have a neighbour whose son is paraplegic and mentally disabled and as she’s waiting on a DLA claim she’s getting sanctioned because she can’t get to the job centre because she’s caring for her son its so wrong!

I just called today SD 12/8 after a 24 min wait for them to answer and be told no updates it’s in the “que” to go to a DM taking longer than expected bcos of the backlog waiting times now 20-21 weeks!

MistandFog2024 · 03/12/2024 12:38

@Lme86 yes I would definitely send it. Good luck with your claim x

Online, there’s a facility to make complaints if you google UC complaint it should come up x

Your neighbour should make a complaint too, that’s awful and not right at all!

GG1986 · 03/12/2024 12:51

Hi all, if sending further evidence what is the address? And also does sending further evidence just delay decision even more? Thanks all x

really hoping to see some August dates soon. I’m the end sd 28th but I’m 14 weeks now told 15 weeks when I put the claim in, then 18, then up to 20 , I think the process is bs when they just keep delaying the time frames! You feel you are one week closer then it’s just a shortfall again with time added. Annoys me!

Honesty love someone I know got to 14 weeks and was still not with a decision maker she rang everyday, I think they got fed up and she was awarded 15weeks +4 they said you keep ringing everyday, she said and I’ll continue to do so, as you shouldn’t state 15 weeks. 🤪🤪 I’m just not that brave to do that xx she put nc in July was awarded October 🤦‍♀️ x

she Has a point. They should update their letters, giving people false hope, especially those that aren’t on these forums or social media🤦🏽‍♀️ I’m so sick of waiting considering I’ve seen people after my date had theirs looked at already🤦🏽‍♀️
