So confused haha isn’t the 156 the carers element?

156 is disabled child element and another 198 carers

Ebonie3315 · 25/11/2024 17:55

18 weeks today nc 22/7
Heard nothing rang Friday same story 20 week wait

Is carers allowance and carers element different? I work so wouldn’t want to claim care. Xx

And yes I called for the forms back in may. And pretty sure they’ve backdated DLA from then. And I hope so, good luck xxx

You can work and claim carers element, as long as your care for your child for 35 hours or more a week

Don’t benefit tho do you as sure they take £ for £ with carers xx

That's carers allowance which is a separate benefit to uc. That one is taken £ for £ from uc. The carers element is an extra amount added to uc just like the disabled child element

Ahh. I get it. I only work 20hrs a week over 3 days. But heard the carers element isn’t worth as they take pound for pound xx

PollyH3 · 25/11/2024 17:53

@MrsW12 what were you awarded? I'm really hoping if they get the forms Wednesday they'll accept the screen print of the email and will be awarded pretty quick 🤞

I got MRC. She’s only 4 so I guess I can apply for mobility when she’s 5. I hope it’s quick for you x

I'm really hoping that the same as you, because school has confirmed what I've said that they'll award him 🤞 I'm also hoping for mobility as he's 14 and can't go anywhere alone etc. I feel like the end is in sight now, and cautiously optimistic

decided to bite the bullet and ring…..
cannot actually believe it. Awarded! MRC and LRM… back pay issued 2 days ago! Can’t believe it! 12/07 decision made 22nd.

Congratulations very pleased for you x

Yes completely separate claims. Uc element should in automatically included in your claim once updated. Carers allowance is separate but is taken £ for £ from your uc xx

I understand why everyone gets so sick of waiting and feels sick I constantly think he's going to get declined as I've only had a small sectioned fill on form from school he's not diagnosed , just think it's too long wait to be told no and they need to do something about the waiting time people shouldn't be waiting longer than 3 months in my opinion never mind 5.

Ivytor · 25/11/2024 19:09

Sorry to rant at you guys but after having multiple agents lie to me and tell me my original scan date would be amended I called this evening to be met with you what I can only describe as an extremely abrupt and rude woman. When I explained it wasn’t my fault the online part 2 had to be hand written - it was the system, I was told “well it’s a problem with the system you’ve got then”. When becoming upset (yes I did cry on the phone) and saying it’s not fair to hold his application back two months it would’ve been done in august if the system allowed me, I won’t hear back til February at this rate! She literally scoffed and said “did you honestly think you’d be hearing back this year anyways”

I couldn’t hack it anymore the more I started to cry the more I felt as if she became more rude. Anything I said was interrupted with “log a complaint then” and I was told there was no manager that would speak to me and they’ll not log complaints on the phone.

I feel absolutely gutted and humiliated

I only filled in parts which was related to my son whos got learning difficulties which he was diagnosed by a Dr which came into the school and watched him in class I sent a copy of the report they found plus the school have got a plan in place now every class he goes into it goes with him what help he needs

It's a new claim so nothing. My daughter is 8 and gets middle rate care no mobility, but my son should definitely qualify for low rate mobility

This was horrible to read. People like that thrive off of making people feel like s*. I hope you got her name and I hope you do make a complaint. We aren’t here to be spoken to like rubbish. Our lives are hard enough with the lack of sleep and constant fighting for our children. Take a deep breath and remember why you’re doing this. And I really do hope that you got her name to include in a long winded complaint for their rubbish system and lack of compassion from the call handlers🙄

So is the element not backdated? So confused haha as that would be £156 x 27 weeks from the day I rang for the forms which seems a lot xx

I'm actually gutted for you reading that! How dare she?! Firstly, I am so sorry you have experienced this today, they really have no idea of the effects to the parents of SEN/disabled children. Absolutely ignorant of them. Sending you so many hugs ❤️❤️ secondly, if I'm not mistaken, if you work for dwp you are a civil servant. You pay your taxes for her to provide you with a service to a highest standard (which applies to any customer based role!) I would really encourage you to put a formal complaint in about your treatment today. As parents we are often at our wits end on a daily basis, add in mental health issues of our own on top...her attitude could really push someone over the edge 😔 we are all here for support so you rant away my lovely, that's exactly why these pages and posts exist xxxx

Yep the element is backdated too, you will have to ask for it on your journal to be backdated. The wait for that is anything from a few days to 6mths 🤷‍♀️ used to waiting now aren't we 🤣🤣

Oh wow/ didn’t know anything about uc until I’d read things on here. Yeah haha!! I’m just so happy to be awarded. Was a long 19 weeks! xxx

Sorry, just incase you've not realised or seen my last post...the added elements on uc are per your pay cycle not weekly, your back dated for the disabled child and carers element will be back dated per month not week. Will still be a nice little sum xx
