I’ve gone off one reason only that they gave for awarding my son LRM which was written on his decision letter. It’s not right so why should I accept it was my thinking! Did you request written statement of reasons?

Yes I rang up and asked for statement of reasons. I then said I’d do the MR over the phone, then after I gave her my points to disagree over the phone I told her that I’ll be sending more evidence alongside my own statement just in case she missed anything I said

Hi everyone,

25/07 here new claim.

I have been a silent watcher, closer we are getting to a decision my anxiety is through the roof. Seeing people declined makes you question whether you have sent enough evidence, I certainly believe my daughter is entitled to it. She has epilepsy (not medicated), PICA, asthma and suspected ASD. We have so many problems with her food she is persistently anaemic because of it. She is also still in pull ups, school say she is going at school. I’m not convinced because she doesn’t drink a thing while she’s there, they’ve started a reward chart and prompting her to drink. My daughter tell me she will go to the toilet at home if we can get the same small toilet as school have, I obviously can’t get a smaller toilet plumbed in though bless her. I’ve sent in the letter from NHS that shows we get pull ups provided through the incontinence team. Her epilepsy care plan, referral letter for ASD, statement from Grandma, statement from my sister in law my daughters Auntie she is a deputy headteacher and qualified SENCO herself and also sent in her SEN plan that shows she has some 1:1 in school. School annoy me though not very helpful and didn’t ask them to fill in their part. Still thinking it might not be enough and second guessing myself all the time. Hope everyone gets good news soon!

Yes they said he is making the choice so I said Autism is classed as a physical disability and his “refusal” isn’t a conscious choice but caused by his physical disability. I was very annoyed with the statement of reasons. They disregarded everything

If we get those reasons I’ll be gutted too. Apparently it’s a grey area as they think the child is being wilful and making a conscious choice not to walk, so they are saying autism wouldn’t impact it and yes are disregarding that.

He does 3 days a week (previously 4) at a therapeutic intervention school which has been great, but he’s going back to his normal school full time in Feb and I’m dreading it!

Have you asked if he can attend full time? If he’s thriving somewhere it makes no sense to take him back to where he’s struggling but of course they won’t make it as easy as that for you. We had many rejections before a school finally said they can meet need 🤯

because said child has a physical disability that directly affects the brain it can be said that it’s not a conscious choice they are making which I think they fail to forget. Like I’m not being funny my son can’t make choices, and I highly doubt he chooses to put himself on the floor no matter the weather or where we are for the fun of it🤦🏽‍♀️

Definitely not! It’s like my son who wears shorts and no top no matter the weather. He will only get dressed if we are going outside and then it’s thick joggers in the summer and shorts in the winter and that’s not as a result of his needs? I beg to differ 😤

Felt awful earlier. He was asking if he could go to the shops obviously being Sunday by 4pm they are shut. I asked him what time was he says 17.10 so I say what does that mean in a single digit? He’s no clue. Yet I’m having to persuade people who will never meet him about how he’s not like other 13 year olds give me a break!

We aren’t even that far from Wolverhampton. I think I’ll put it to them they are discriminating against us from the WM.

Sometimes I think they see autism as a one size fits all when the spectrum is so big that needs are all different. Like you have one child who can make the choices and knows what to wear for certain weathers. Then you have the children where they aren’t yet capable to do simple things that a child of their age should be able to do. P me off. Even family members disregard needs then it’s me left trying re regulate my child because you decided to do something that triggers him🙃 I’m on one today😂😂😂

Hubby was asking if they work from home? No clue. Might make sense if they are taking workloads home but surely not as it’s confidential info?

They are working from home yes

They are working from home yes

That might explain why they aren’t being done in strict date order a few of the later ones are slipping through

Could be. They have been working from home since Covid. That will be the weekend decision makers

I think they should only give it to people that actually know what they are doing. It’s certainly not black and white. Like my son will say to me he doesn’t understand why he’s at his school as he’s seeing kids with needs that are more severe than his but what he doesn’t understand he is one of those kids to but on the lesser end of the spectrum. I dread to think what they are like if he says he’s not as bad as them. They still function in ways he don’t so it’s really not that simple but DLA are trying to simplify it which is wrong

This is literally my son. Would wear shorts and crocs all year round, even in the snow and storms. Our garden flooded with the rain we've had and he went out and was playing in the water(and I mean rolling around in it, soaked from head to toe). He's 14. He also can't tell the time. If I said it's 20 to 3 he wouldn't have a clue what time it was unless I said 3.40.
I really wish the dm's could spend some time with these children. The Meltdowns we are having constantly lately is so exhausting and I know it's only going to continue to get worse because he can't cope with all the change etc in the run up to Christmas.

PollyH3 · 24/11/2024 21:44

I'm calling first thing tomorrow and I'm so nervous as so much for my son is riding on a stranger who has never met him making a decision about him. 20 weeks tomorrow and pretty sure I still won't have a decision but hoping they will escalate it and I'll have one by Tuesday 🤞 the wait has been horrendous. I thought it was bad enough when it was around 16 week wait back in June when my daughter was awarded.

It’s an intervention school, they only have them for 2 terms, they’ve been amazing!

Hanacrusis · 24/11/2024 21:55

its so incredibly frustrating isn’t it! Obviously no decision yet on my boys but I’ve been through MR and tribunal with my partner and still didn’t get what we felt was appropriate, he’s just had his renewal through and went from no mobility to high rate which just shows it’s what he was entitled to all along!

Hanacrusis · 24/11/2024 21:57

The meltdowns are just so so hard to handle for us and them, still dealing with them with my eldest who’s 18 and now have the twins to contend with. I want to just invite the DM to spend a weekend in my house, no form would be needed then. Or just let them look at my camera reel full of bruises courtesy of th3 youngest…
