I will for sure as I feel it's so wrong. I have two friends same age children, one has less needs and issues than my son, and they have both components. I don't envy, but it makes me think that the way they considering who's eligible for what, is nonsense.
If the pension has affected their decision to what he's eligible for, I wish I would never mention that pension on the claim, but I wanted to be honest. But it shouldn't affect to what he's eligible for as he lives here.. he's attending school here, hospitals, etc.

That's the thing the way they award is crazy I have no idea how they can judge what child needs what and I understand what you mean it's frustrating because we all want what's best for our kids and let's be honest nothing is ever good enough because in a world that's going to be hard for them anything to ease it is appreciated but it's the constant fighting for it that gets you down xx

Scan date 9th April
I called yesterday to ask for the address for additional evidence
They told me it is currently with a decision maker which I was shocked about
How long usually is it with a decision maker for?
Reason I ask is I'm wondering if it's worth me copying and sending off additional evidence. The evidence I have just backs up previous evidence I sent just don't know if it's worth sending it in

I would definitely send it in. Are you sure its with a DM ? Some advisers seem to just say anything.

Or are you on priority

Matilde08 · 20/06/2024 10:31

He's eligible for it till age of 18. That's pretty much some % of pension his dad work for. And it's available to deceased's young children if passing young age. If it's really the reason I need decline it then.

It's a hard one as they could say he's getting support he needs from pension even tho he is entitled to dla.. if I was you I'd go seek advice from citizens advice see what your best options are, they be able to explain everything to you

fluffypooch · 20/06/2024 10:54

The priority option is there for anyone to use. It's not a new thing. If you feel like you apply then call them up.

Sharkay06 · 20/06/2024 10:56

Mhow · 20/06/2024 10:46

Exactly. My son is 8 he has ADHD we were stable enough to handle it and I hadn’t claimed anything until now.
my youngest has ASD and our situation has changed dramatically. My husband 34 had a heart attack and double bypass in January (is a genetic condition) he is self employed our only source of income- he can’t work like he used to. Im not putting priority cuz my children don’t go without (at this very moment) however very soon it may be different. Every child with genuine difficulties takes a lot of time and money for everyone- so when I see people who have been waiting since feb and other people getting it through in April I think it’s ridiculous and very unfair

I do understand but you don't know why they've been put as priority like I said I never asked for it I've been waiting 15 weeks and I've been put as priority today my child doesn't go without but if I had financial support I could do so much more for him to help with his needs I have 5 children 2 have special needs every one is in need some way or another I doubt it even means anything it feels unfair at times but think of how you feel about your children we all feel the same way fingers crossed we all get good decisions quickly xx

I would ring back up see if your told the same and ask if you have time to send extra evidence in, if not just keep it if you need it

I just commented further down I think every family is in need some way or another that's why we apply to help ease life for our families ...one family's needs might seem small in comparison to others but doesn't mean u don't need any less help my son has been diagnosed with ADHD and assessment for autism it's took me a long time to admit that he's different and it breaks my heart as I'm sure it does everyone else there is such a fear of judgement isn't there I don't fink any of us can judge anyone's situation and just hope for the best for everyone xx

Yeah we all have strains and needs and like you said some may not seem so bug compared to yourself or someone else, but theres always someone out there worse off than you i think.

Yeah there is a big fear around judgement or atleast there was for me too. I often wonder about me being a rubbish mum and if others think this when they witness my child's behaviours. They have depressive disorder, anxiety and tics and just had forms sent of from his camhs consultant for autism assessment with possible pda. They also present with ebd behaviours aswell which is why it's taken so long to get diagnoses ect as they show so many behaviours from so many different things.

I've probably been eligible to apply for around 2/3 years but never have until now when the strains are really showing and costs are soaring

We've allegedly been with a DM for a month now, scan date 21/02

Will wait for that letter to find out more and it's a good advice to ask for advice from citizens. I need to be more prepared before MR

Your deffo not a rubbish mom I feel ya tho I often think this because sometimes I shout and then I feel guilty because they have different needs then I get confused because I don't want to treat them any different to my other kids it's just so hard isn't it just a constant battle to try and look after them to ensure they are getting all the support they need and trying to stay sane yourself lol xx

Citizens advice will help you understand everything better and will advise what you should do next, they could also help with Mr.. ring them to make an appointment as they sometimes take a while depending on area.. if letter arrives before appointment great bit if not still go see them as they can help ease alot of questions on your mind so you won't feel so stressed

That's a good advice! Will focus on that and book an appointment.
Up since 3am this morning not only of my coughing, but stressing and overthinking.. that's ridiculous what they do with our minds 🫥🙃

Oh god just called and been told it's with a dm now being looked at 🫣 I better make myself busy 😬

Sd 11/4 was made priority a few weeks ago, called Monday for an update and it was first in the queue waiting to be picked up, the call handler left a note asking for it to be looked at asap.

My Sd is 15/4 . I was also made a first on Monday and yesterday is was with DM…. Let’s go crazy together whilst we wait 😂 I was told it could still take a few weeks even now it’s with DM …. Have you been given a time frame? X

I undersrand it is frustrating with the long wait and see scan dates after yours. When i was awarded for my oldest sd 20/02 5 weeks ago i didnt want to post knowing it would piss people off. But i did anyway because i wanted to share my win for my daughter like everyone else. New claim no priority.

this thread is great for many reasons but i think people need to understand by knowing more from others, the con is seeing people awarded earlier than you.

my oldest went smoothly. Im still fighting for my youngest after 14 months so ive experienced both quick and long but being bitter about others is no good during this already stressful process and not to mention how hard it is having special needs children. It’s the world we live in, we have no control over anything so might aswell just love and support. Some of us will have quick and easy outcomes some will have long and painful.

good luck to all who are waiting. Im MR for severely disabled child tax credit. Missing out on 3k due to migration to UC after a 31 week DLA wait. Please remember to inform TC if you migrate. I wouldnt wish this battle on anyone. Sd 28/04/2023 still not done…

Great post. I do agree- of course I wish every luck and a speedy process, it can be very stressful for everyone as we all have our own battles x

I’ve just called and got through without even having a ring, he said the other call handlers has put it on the wrong priority list and he has made it priority first and to look at the letter I sent for reasons why, he said I will have a decision in a week and to call back next Friday
