My scan date is 15th april. I also feel like we will be rejected due to lack of evidence as all i have at the moment is evidence that my daughter will be receiving wave 3 support at school, the headteacher filled in the part of the form for someone who knows your child, and i also photocopied the health visiters comments in my dauggters red book regarding suspected austism, speech and language and certain behaviours and a message off the school saying my daughter has been referred to various things

from what I can tell, having the school support your application goes well in your favour.

Sometimes when they don't have enough evidence, they will contact the school for their views, so the fact you already have a statement from them is a good thing.

As long as you filled in the form and detailed what extra care you provide your child, for how long and how frequently you should be fine

Hi everyone, new here, came across this thread whilst searching online for some information regarding dla. I applied for my daughter at the end of January by calling the helpline for a form. Sent all forms back once I had received them and got a scan date of 6th feb. I had a text on Thursday (6th June) to say: “we have decided that your child qualifies for disability living allowance. You don’t need to contact us about this. We’ll send you a letter with all you need to know. If you don’t get this in 2 weeks please contact us.”
does this mean she has been awarded it?
It’s so vague!

just wanted someone to talk to who may have got a similar message. Sorry to intrude on your thread, I hope you guys don’t mind! X

Yes you have been awarded 😊

Call on Monday and ask for the rates, the letter can take up to two weeks.
I never received a test message but I was awarded the same day as you (I called and was told we'd been awarded over the phone)

I have been told the payment should be next Wednesday

@Shazzle88 @UsefulZombie @SendProsecco just to try and put all ur minds at ease I applied for my son when he was 2 (he is now 3) he also had extreme sensory issues and sensory seeking behaviours under speech and language and had seen the peaditrition but only once and then was discharged and told SCP referal should be done and nothing they could do because the delays and behaviours he was showing was all likely down to undiagnosed Autism ,,, he was delayed in quite a few things but again required a substantial amount of care from a child of the same age I cant leave him alone due to violent behaviours and out bursts he could not communicate his needs or wants and this would also cause violent outbursts I didn’t have much evidence at all with him and thought I was going to get a decline but we was awarded ❤️ word of advice I would give when filling in any forms or writing stuff is use better words so for example just saying my child screams all night and is awake and screams all day would likely just say this is down to age ,, However writing things like due to my child’s severe and extreme sensory seeking behaviours and excessive meltdowns he requires supervision at all times as he acts on impulse and without warning this could put himself and or someone else in great danger if he wasn’t supervised at all times as during these meltdowns which happen without warning he has very unpredictable and dangerous as well as violent behaviours,, these violent behaviours does not have to mean he bites hits or punches you it could be that he throws toys or objects without care of them hitting anyone or that he damages furniture such qs tv’s excetra hope this helps I’m currently waiting for my daughter for adhd and autism she went unnoticed due to masking but my little boy was picked up pretty quick by school xx

Does anyone know anything about or has anyone previously paid to go private for ASD assessment? How much faster is/was the process? I’ve been told at present it’s at least 18 months wait just to start assessment! This wait time on top of a 2 year wait for CAMHS seems awful long time for more suffering for a child who has already been under CAMHS twice and has needed help since 2018/2019.
any advice much appreciated x

I haven’t gone private I was going to out my sons back pay but my HV told me that nhs professionals would not look at this as an accurate diagnosis I don’t no how true that is but she told me it wouldn’t hold any value if we went private for a diagnosis xx

NoWordForFluffy · 09/06/2024 13:58

I've read that too, @Emma2345. Whether there's a perception that when you've paid privately you get the diagnosis you want, I'm not sure (which is seriously disrespectful to the professionals doing the diagnosing, plus they're often the same ones who'd do the NHS diagnosis anyway).

TheSnappyTurtle · 09/06/2024 14:02

@OneTiredMumma84 hey. Yea i did. I used the DLA backpay. We were 18m in when i was told wed have to start the process again because i moved to get her into a different school and because we were under different councils couldnt resume. I started saving as much as i could because i wasnt waiting any longer for her to get help. The school we were at didnt believe me and we got no support. When the DLA backpay came in i cried and knew exactly what i had to do with it. I used autismservice.co.uk they are connected to the NHS but a private company. From first phone call to enquire to diagnosis was 10 weeks. We did a joint autism and ADHD assessment but you can just do one or the other. It was the best money i ever spent! School and doctors accepted it no problem.

good luck! ❤️

Thank you. I’m glad to hear it got accepted by other professionals as that was a big worry too. His school started the referal but have also said if they can’t accommodate him he will have to go to a hospital school , so I’ve got a feeling he will be moved schools part way through too. It’s such a fight for anything for our children these days isn’t it! I will have a look at that website now 💜 thank you again x

I asked the same question to my sons senco at school and she said a private diagnosis doesn't hold any weight in school and used the phrase
"you get what you pay for" meaning you're more likely to get diagnosed by paying privately, even if that diagnosis is incorrect.

it is such a hard and long process, my sons NHS assessment from referral to diagnosis was 18 months

i'm so glad you have had such a positive experience by going private!
❤️
I have heard so many horror stories, it's great that they are recognising a private diagnosis

a diagnosis is a diagnosis and it's not our fault that wait times are years and years. I very nearly paid private for my sons assessment but was too scared to do other people's experiences

TheSnappyTurtle · 09/06/2024 15:09

Apologies @OneTiredMumma84 I missed the The. here is the website

https://www.theautismservice.co.uk/?utm_source=google&utm_medium=gmb&utm_campaign=shrewsbury

i was warned by the professionals aswell that they definitely don’t just give out diagnosis. And explained I would not get a refund if I didn’t get the outcome I was personally looking for. It is very nerve wrecking going private. I saw it as if she doesn’t get a diagnosis I’ve wasted my
money. But actually, after going through the process and going private I switched the narrative to… no matter what, I’ll get an answer. I thought she was riddled with adhd and slight autism. After my outcome appointment it turns out she was very strong with autism and less so adhd. She got a diagnosis of both but not the way I thought even though I’d done nothing but research since it was mentioned to me.

I just wanted to share a more positive experience because I was also hearing horror stories about private but it really was a brilliant experience and I feel like I understand my daughter even better now 🙂

TheSnappyTurtle · 09/06/2024 15:25

@Ljstar Thank you for your message. Yeah the horror stories are enough to put you off. It did me for a long time, I guess the thought of starting again was scarier than doing it when I was told. Put a lot of research in then when the back pay came in just had to go for it.

there is a misconception that you’ve “paid for a diagnosis so it’s chosen” and there are some dodgy companies out there trying to make money knowing the awareness of ADHD and autism has sky rocketed. For anyone that debates it, I have personally used this company. I recommended them onto two others that have used it and say the same as me too. I’m currently saving for ADHD assessment for my eldest which is why I came onto this thread. The struggle for our sen children is real. Anything that releases that stress, upset and anxiety is worth the money in my eyes ❤️ it’s okay if people disagree and it won’t be for everybody. Just those that may be going through that internal fight whether to go through private.

Hi, new to this but have been following thread for a couple weeks so thought id join as waiting to hear back from dla about new claim for my son.

Posted forms 28/03/2024
DLA received forms on 2/04/2024
i phoned on 28/04/2024 to make sure they had received forms as i didnt recieve a letter or text confirming they had them. Think this call made them send confirmation letter out as i recieved a letter a week later .
i then got the generic letter dated 20/05/2024 saying sorry you have not received decision yet this can take up to 15weeks we will write to you as soon as we can with more info

i know i have a long wait left for decision as going by SD/date they recieved forms 02/04/24 i will be at 11weeks on tues 11/06/24.

congrats to everyone who has been awarded

is anyone here got same sd as me 02/04/2024

Hey I'm new here, I sent forms last month. Recieved a letter to say they've got them on 21st May. Is this my scan date? Also what does parked etc mean? Thank you

We just say parking so we're on the thread and don't lose it I think or get notifications, that's what I do anyway haha xx

I put on a MR on Friday and was told it’s anything from 12 to 15 weeks atm so I’d assume as they are back logged atm with new claims and renew claims it will most likely be 15 weeks realistically…. You could always call though as it’s over the 12 and just see where it’s at ?! Good luck x x

So I finally got the text to say ds has been awarded. Do you know when they payout? Original application start date 08/08/23 rejected 22/1 mandatory reconsideration 28/2 and award text 08/06 gosh it's been a long road..... Should get some nice back pay though.
