How do you all get through to the call centre so quickly? I don't think my call has ever been answered quicker than an hour.
Calling 0800 121 4600, then option 5 2 3.
Is this correct?

If your calls taking a long time your probably already calling the long way which is the correct way as above they give you the most information

Ljstar · 07/06/2024 15:37

Does anyone on UC know how to update your record to the disability element (once you're accepted for DLA) ?

also I have heard there is a carers element, but I work part time so I presume i'm not eligible for this?

Ok so I caved 🤦‍♀️ … even though I am in Bulgaria on holiday with my two boys ( 8yr ADHD and autism , 2 Yh old non very very delayed communication comprehension and Mike stone reaches ) … I phoned DLA lol 😂 …. 2yr old turned down and put through to talk with another department 20 mins explaining and answering questions to her she said definitely do a MR she feels DM did not take on board the differences between a regular 2 year old and our sons delays and needs …. 8 year old was approved with LRC and a care element totalling £405 every 4 weeks ….. they also said as I get UC I need to tell UC as they might change my payments ? Anyone else have UC reducing because child getting DLA 😬😭

Congratulations, your uc payments won’t reduce they will go up if you add the disability and carer element on it ( carers element on uc you can apply even if working ) it’s only carers allowance you can’t claim if you earn more than £140 a week. Here’s how to add it

I’ve just added it on post below

@Ljstar uc will backdate to the same date you were awarded DLa and there’s no income threshold for the carers element, they will award it even if you work full or part time.

You can claim carers element if working but not carers allowance if you earn more than £140 a week

Thank you for this information, I wrote on the journal explaining that I called dla and what was said .
I will log back in and do this though too :) … they back dated to my phone call date ( 16th January ) I assumed it might just of gone from scan date ( 15th Feb) … that’s a massive back pay and will be fantastic for the extra clothes, food and tutoring maybe some activities days :)

I’m really unsure, I didn’t call for forms, I printed them out but my scan date was 16/2 but they’ve awarded me from 21/2? But my sons claim last year was awarded 2 days before his scan date, did they tell you on the phone what date your being awarded from?

Ljstar · 07/06/2024 16:10

@Crazyhouse4 thanks so much for that info. I had no idea about any of this until I joined this group.

I didn't even know I could claim
for DLA until someone mentioned it to me in passing at the start of this year, so this is all so new to me.
Super grateful for all the help / advice ❤️

Thank you! I would have never known any of this without this group ❤️

just to put your mind at rest my claim was with a dm for two weeks before being awarded today, i kept thinking something was wrong with my claim / form

I think we just presume each dm works at the same pace / has the same dates to work from but I don't think that's the case

hang in there x

Thank you. Just find it so frustrating. But I’m sure all will be okay in the end x

Me again sorry lol , I forgot to ask on the phone . How long is it usually for the back pay to go in after they made the decision ? Ie is it days or weeks ? I know it was decided on Wednesday I have not had a payment as yet ( wouldn’t expect it 48 hours any way lol ) … is there a usual date or day they do it ? Ie like my pip is every 4 th Tuesday but UC is on a certain date .

thanks :)

Is anyone able to help me, so I thought my daughter’s award was until the day before her 16th birthday but it’s until the day before her 17th birthday? But Dla child is to the age of 16 😵‍💫 I’m abit confused, does it mean I have a year to change over to pip?

No they send form out on your child's 16th birthday and your given 4 weeks from then to get them back to them to swap over
I had to call up after 2 weeks as I'd still not received the forms so they gave me an extra 2/3weeks to get them back(as if it was my fault)
After a further week I called again and they sent a 3rd copy apparently I did eventually get a copy but somehow the other 2 vanished 😒
They give you to 17 as it can take awhile to swap and you still get dla while waiting for the results
If you don't claim pip in the 4 weeks they give you your dla will stop
Just delt with this in March/april

Thank you, you have been so helpful, it totally confused me having it til 17, but that makes sense, atleast Dla will continue while waiting for a decision and if it’s anything like the Dla wait I’m sure they take there time too, good luck with your decisions and thank you again ☺️
