I think it’s to do with certain things, I got put on the priority list because my son started school in September and the school said in march that mainstream isnt for him so I had to take him out of school which then impacted me working, I’ve now had to give up work to look after my child until I can get him into his specialist school. I’m now having to claim for certain benefits but there’s a wait time on them as well. So I’m that’s put me into the priority group because I have no income because my son is not in school anymore

Wow, this should not be happening! Your son has a right under the education act to be provided an education provision that fits him he should not be out of school! I am so sorry you are going throigh that!!

It’s because he doesn’t legally have to be in full time education till September. He has just turned 5 and still in reception year, so until it’s mandatory that he has to be in school the school can decide if it’s for him or not. It’s absolutely crap! X

I’ve worked for 24 years, I went back to work 10 days after having my 5yr old and 2 months after having my 5 month old and that’s only because I caught sepsis and nearly died it took so long to go back, I feel like an absolute failure at the moment. Not being able to provide for my children and not even being able to give my son an education. I don’t even know where to turn or anything no more. Universal credit did help me get an early help worker to try and help with getting him into education and helping with his doctors and his ASD, she has been amazing to be honest x

Hi just wondering has anyone else had issues with universal credit after reporting a decision change once awarded higher rate care thanks to a MR changing there decision as my son was originally awarded middle so only got the disable element of £156.11 on UC backdated awarded from august 2023 But now he's been awarded high rate care after putting in a MR and waiting a further 13 weeks and I reported it to UC 10 days ago as soon as i got the MR decision had 1 response saying they don't owe me nothing and that was 1 day after i reported change ever since ive wrote everyday telling them they are wrong and need to look at it correctly as I've Google it and spoke to cotizen advice and I am correct but UC won't give me appointment or listen to what I am saying and had no respone also called 2x as should be entitled to a backpay and higher amount on my UC award.. as now my son should get severed disabled element from UC now which is a higher rate of £487.58 and should be back dated from August 2023 sorry about the long paragraph but it is frustrating me and wondering if anyone else has had this issue :/ thanks 😊

Sorry no I haven’t had the same experience but I would definitely tell them that they have a certain amount of time before you take legal action against them and they will be hearing from a solicitor explain to them they owe you the severe child disability premium from what August 2023 and that the short fall should be back paid to you as they have only been paying you disability premium and your child was awarded the severe child disabled element from August 2023 I would also say they have massively impacted your physical and mental health and it’s taking a toll on yourself and your child and you want a Case manager to ring you Urgently (hope this helps my mum has a similar problem but where they refused to pay her I wrote this on her journal and with in about an hour they had it sorted )

Your welcome I bet it’s a disgrace if we owed them money even if it dated back till 2010🤣🤣 they would be right up our arse demanding it but it’s ok for them not to pay what they owe us xx

They owe you roughly £3,282.80 short fall as you should have been getting the difference of £310.58 from august to April which works out 9 month’s difference so £310.58 X 9 months is £2,795.22 and then the £487.58 for may on top works out £3,282.80 hope this helps also right this to them xx

Sarahdestiny · 23/05/2024 15:48

@Emma2345 I no right I felt like saying that to them if I owed you money then ul be on my case and yh I worked it out about the same that they owe me but I just think they dint wanna pay that's probably why hoping can get this sorted but will soon see x

Hi Sarah,

we have thoroughly looked through your claim for the higher premium we can see that you get the higher rate for 1 child so we will refer this to a decision maker for you for the higher amount for the 2nd child once this has been completed it will be updated on to your journal we will ask for this to be completed as soon as possible.

Thank you

.. hopefully they will sort it now thanm you so much for you're help x

Aha yeah definitely it is usually the decision maker who accepts the delays and awards the backpay so maybe that will all be done at the same time as their going to do it as soon as possible probably because it’s a substantial amount to and they don’t want to owe u any more 🤞 for you hun let me no when you hear from them xx
