First time claimer here. Oh what a joy that form is to fill in. I feel all sorts of mum guilt that I haven’t completed it well enough and that I’ll either get declined or not the rate I think my little boy deserves. I tried my best but I’m not very good at these sort of things. I only sent my form in by special delivery last Wednesday. How do you find out your scan date? Do you get a notification or do you need to ring to find out? Also if we are lucky and are awarded can universal credit be back paid for disabled child element if I only apply for UC at the time of DLA award or do I already have to be claiming UC? I’m a single working parent and currently childcare is cheaper on tax free childcare but if awarded DLA then it would be better to be on UC. If I switch to UC now I’ll be paying more for his childcare costs, so not sure what would be best to do

bonz2023 · 20/02/2024 15:43

So do award back payments only get paid on a Tuesday or a Wednesday? I mean is there not point me checking my bank Monday, Thursday or Friday?!

user1471468559 · 20/02/2024 15:47

Scan date 24/10 and just had a text to say she’s entitled. No idea on rates but just delighted to have an award!

Tiredmummy1235 · 20/02/2024 15:54

@bonz2023 think it can go in any day of the week. Just three days after they award.

Kkh1 · 20/02/2024 16:11

Afternoon everyone just popped on to ask what happens once you have been awarded ?
do I need to tell UC or wait for my letter to arrive to confirm with them accurate dates etc ?

I am currently receiving universal credit and work part time earning £330 a month.( roughly)
i don’t know wether im claiming careers allowance or careers element ? I really don’t understand any of it or what to do next ?

Emma2345 · 20/02/2024 16:14

@Kkh1 hi you will click carers element not Allowance as UC will take it all off you,,, if you no what rate your on for DLA you should ring UC and make them aware or change your circumstances on your UC account hope this helps I didn’t wait for the letter I rang UC to update as soon as I found out I was entitled to dla I found out through a text and phoned them that day to find out rates then notified UC straight away x

Geordiemam33 · 20/02/2024 16:28

Right so after 1hr and 17 mins she said a decision has been made but not been cleared yet so she can’t see the outcome and to call back Friday. I said oh so that’s a bad thing she said definitely not I see this all the time ??? Any one heard of this? Xx

Sunflower1808 · 20/02/2024 16:31

@Geordiemam33 🤞🏼🤞🏼 for you xx my lost paper work definitely going to hold me up then🙈🙈x

Tiredmummy1235 · 20/02/2024 16:33

@Geordiemam33 oh what a nightmare they can’t tell you thanks for letting us know. Definitely going to have to phone in morning 🤞🤞

Geordiemam33 · 20/02/2024 16:34

I wonder if someone makes a decision then it’s gotta be signed off sort of thing I’ve never heard of this and been claiming for years for other children xx

Beckylouise000 · 20/02/2024 16:38

@Geordiemam33 what was your scan date? I’m really wishing I rang up again today but there’s no chance I’m getting through in time now

Kkh1 · 20/02/2024 16:39

Thanks Emma do you know if this is how it stops you being asked to work aswell as I physically can not work anymore than I already do around my son

Geordiemam33 · 20/02/2024 16:40

@Beckylouise000 I would advise waiting til morning now. And my scan date was 10/11. I’ve just gotta horrible gut feeling it’s a decline. I’ve tried looking for similar situations online but nothing haha

When did you receive this text?

JMommy2023 · 20/02/2024 16:43

finally with a dm now and was told it was from yesterday. Scan date 26/10/23. How long have you guys with same scan date been waiting?

user1471468559 · 20/02/2024 16:50

JMommy2023 · 20/02/2024 16:40

When did you receive this text?

Just before 3, was surprised as I called on Friday morning and it wasn’t with a decision maker at that point.

Emma2345 · 20/02/2024 16:51

@Geordiemam33 hey not heard of this but maybe DM has awarded but she can’t tell you what yet until they work out how much your owed I assume they would make a decision to say yeah they decide what rate then work out your back pay so that the call handler doesn’t tell you something inaccurate my fingers are crossed for you anyway x

That’s good news!! I’m hoping I get a text or payment as I just found out mine is with the dm as of yesterday but when I called yesterday it was in a pile still waiting to be seen.

Geordiemam33 · 20/02/2024 16:58

@Emma2345 I bloody hope so lol. Was just strange to say yes it has been worked on… then a decision has been made but hasn’t been cleared yet so I can’t actually see to tell you. I was like oh that’s bad news she was like no no not necessarily I see this all the time. I said what does that actually mean hasn’t been cleared. She said call back Friday should be able to see by then. It’s peeing me off haha I hate not knowing I’m sure I seen something like this on one of the previous threads. Xx

Emma2345 · 20/02/2024 17:02

@Kkh1 Yes once your claiming the carer element from UC you could actually quit your job or reduce ur hours down without being made to work as technically your still working because ur caring for your child so they can’t then ask you to look for work or work more hours hope this helps x

Emma2345 · 20/02/2024 17:03

@Geordiemam33 i would definitely ring tomorrow they should have it cleared by then x

Mamof31 · 20/02/2024 17:04

im on hold now been for 1 hour will it be answered with it been after 5 or should I hang up and try again tomorrow

Mellieg11 · 20/02/2024 17:11

following on also, 3/11 one told me 6/11 but anyway hopefully soon.. Good luck to all those waiting

bonz2023 · 20/02/2024 17:12

@Geordiemam33 telling you a decision has been made but not telling you what it is, that's worse than making you wait 16 weeks for a decision isn't it 😂

This is my first experience of DWP and it just seems so unorganised!

My scan date is before yours so what does that mean for us I wonder 🤔
