My sons form is due to be with the DM maker any day. I'm unsure if he will get mobility part, he's autistic and almost 11 years old. He needs watching at all times outside. I have put this all down on his form, he holds my hand everywhere, if I don't grab his hand he is linking my arm everywhere, but if he becomes distressed due to a sound ect (Street sweepers are the worst) he runs and carries on running. So many times he has almost been ran over because he just runs right into the road.

He starts high-school in September, he has to make his own way there (I don't drive and due to my own disabilities I'm unable to do that walk every day, I also have a younger child I have to have in school at the exact same time, luckily her school is over the road) but I'm worried they won't take this into account that it isn't safe for him to go alone (nor would I allow him to go alone, I would crawl to school to get him there safely if I had to but would mean one of my kids would be late every day) I'm hoping he gets awarded as I'm hoping to use that money to get a contract with a taxi company to do that school runs for him. But if he isn't awarded there is no way I will be able to do this. This is the main reason I have finally applied for him xxx

Legofigure · 24/06/2022 10:22

@sulli19 have you looked at school transport?

sulli19 · 24/06/2022 10:24

@Legofigure yes, but they are unsure if this high-school does this. We'll that's what iv been told anyway 🤷‍♀️ but when and if he gets his ehcp I'm hoping to have some of the funding put towards transport x

Legofigure · 24/06/2022 10:31

@sulli19 School transport is the LA’s responsibility, not the schools. There doesn’t need to already be an arrangement with the school or any other transport already arranged. This is IPSEA’s page on eligibility for DC with SEN.

You don’t need an EHCP for transport as it is covered by different legislation, and case law shows transport shouldn’t be in educational provision in EHCPs anyway unless there is exceptional circumstances as it is covered by the different legislation.

If you have been refused transport or are having difficulty getting it agreed contact SENTAS as they help with transport problems.

sulli19 · 24/06/2022 11:03

@Legofigure thank you so much, I didn't know this. I have been ringing and asking everywhere about how to do this. I will look into it thank you xx

Spacemonkey2016 · 24/06/2022 11:47

I'm 7 and a half weeks into waiting for my daughter's claim. My son's took 10 weeks exactly. I'm not holding my breath though....my son was awarded MRC for 7 years until he's 12, my daughter has same illness but actually more care needs as has extra medication to take daily, but she's only 2 and a half, and apparently it's harder to get with younger children? Hoping that as I sent off her repeat prescription with consultants letter etc, they won't be able to say her care needs are the same as someone else her own age.

Poppysmum14 · 24/06/2022 12:40

Our form was stamped 3rd of May will let you know what the outcome is 🤞

KJB88 · 24/06/2022 12:44

Just an update for anyone with a similar date to mine, I was scanned on the 4th May and sent in some additional evidence on Monday so called today to check it was scanned ok also. It was but she told me that they are now looking at 12 weeks for all claims and I shouldn't worry until the end of July time. Definitely looks as though they are snowed under at the moment.

Hammers91 · 24/06/2022 13:22

@Spacemonkey2016 someone I know literally only sent a epilepsy diagnosis letter off ( I’ve seen it and it’s about 6 sentences and doesn’t say much at all ) and she was awarded HRC for 2 years! She’s however a very good liar so no doubt said so much rubbish on the form to get the HRC which angers me so much.

my son has epilepsy has 15-20 seizures a day including evening ones that have resulted in hospital admissions as well as on the pathway of ASD. I’ve sent diagnosis report from consultant, EEG results, medication he’s on, CDC report, nursery report, & his heart device card. I’ve got a feeling I’ll be refused, 10th April they scanned it & still no outcome. Just really annoys me that some get everything with little proof except their little fantasy world words & those who have so much evidence and are truthful have to fight or get declined.

SickKid · 24/06/2022 13:50

@Hammers91 I doubt very much you'll be refused with all that evidence, however they seem to be awarding middle rate care a lot at the moment.

Tootsie1984 · 24/06/2022 14:43

We are waiting to hear about a claim for my 5 year old son. It was scanned into system 7th April. So 11 weeks yesterday.
Rang and it's been with a decision maker since the 20th June. But no decision yet.

Man I spoke to has sent a message across to them apparently , and reckons he will chase it up next week 🙄🤷

Wait is killing me. Sent off evidence from speech and language, statement from school, my plan plus, occupational therapist, teaching advisory etc . In second stage of ehcp process now. He has just been fitted with orthopaedic boots. Is under physio therapist , awaiting genetic results. Both us and school are pushing for a special needs school place for him. Still only on a part time.time table.

I should be used to this as his sister is already on dla and attends a special school. She has a rare genetic condition plus autism. While trying to do my son's claim i had to do her first ever renewal too, but that we through great.

Not feeling hopeful at all right now

Outnumberedbyboys3 · 24/06/2022 15:35

Scan date of 11th April

Called 8th week to be told within 2 weeks.

Called 9th week to be told taking 10 weeks and should hear by end of last week.

Called today to be told it’s taking it’s now 10 weeks to get to case manager and another 2 weeks for decision so should now hear something within another 2 weeks. I’m at nearly 11 now.

Lozin · 24/06/2022 16:07

I've just received the letter stating they got the forms on the 16/06/2022. My DS has a reference number now - is this what I write on the top of subsequent evidence (as well as his DOB and full name). It's looking likely I will have more evidence to submit in the coming weeks...

Legofigure · 24/06/2022 16:35

@Lozin yes, put the reference number and name and DOB on each page of any further evidence you send.

Still only on a part time.time table.

@Tootsie1984 When did DS turn 5? If it was last term or the term before he is already compulsory school age, so part time timetables should only be used short term working towards reintegration. They shouldn’t be used long term, DC should either be in school full time or the LA should be making alternative arrangements for the time the child isn’t in school. If you feel DS is able to attend full time but school won’t allow it tell them he will be attending full time unless they formally exclude - some schools often use part time timetables as a way of illegally excluding pupils. Don’t be worried about exclusions they provide you with evidence of unmet needs for the EHCP. If you don’t feel DS can attend full time pressurise the LA to provide something, if they refuse write to the Director of Children’s Services threatening Judicial Review.

Hammers91 · 24/06/2022 16:47

@SickKid i would honestly be happy with that anything else would be a bonus really so wouldn’t appeal it, he doesn’t need mobility at all despite running at times but I know that’s age typical stuff. I’m just so anxious about it all and it hurts knowing people have got it for lying & less evidence.

Mamto2boys · 25/06/2022 08:40

Mamto2boys · 25/06/2022 09:24

@NoWordForFluffy I wonder why I have a response and you haven't yet. I was absolutely so bloody sure I wasn't going to recieve any help after reading and hesring people's experiences.

Don't suppose anyone knows how long till your first payment is after receiving the text saying your child has been awarded?

NoWordForFluffy · 25/06/2022 09:52

It's usually 3-5 working days, so likely next week at some point.

If you only heard first thing, there's a chance the rest of us may hear later / tomorrow (or not at all if our DM doesn't have the text-sending capability). I wasn't even with a DM at 5pm Thursday.

Uz91 · 25/06/2022 10:01

Hi all! My daughter is 3 and has been diagnosed with JIA, tbh I didn’t know if she would be entitled to dla but was told by her nursery that she should as she now doesn’t walk, they received our dla forms on the 7th May, on the 11th sent out a letter saying they now had it and since then heard nothing, but now have seen groups on here that people from March are still waiting to hear back?! Wow ridiculously long!, just wondering are those people reclaiming or is it a new claim? And do they back date in one go or split it across the months.. thanks in advance

Twinmummyanda7yearold · 25/06/2022 10:03

@Mamto2boys Omg Omg!!! Thank you so much for updating us! 😬 and congratulations 🥳👏🏼 so so happy for you ♥️ yaaay I bet you can't wait to ring to find out what rates 😁

Poppysmum14 · 25/06/2022 10:52

Congratulations 🎉 ❤️🙌

sulli19 · 25/06/2022 11:26

@Mamto2boys congratulations 🎊 👏 I'm 13th of April so hopefully hear something next week 🤞

If a text sent out today do they work weekends then? Xxx

Bizzlemizzle · 25/06/2022 11:35

Yeah, the decision makers work weekends @sulli19.
I asked last time I rang if they could put on my file that I would like a text and they said they couldn't do that. I wasn't arguing 😂 I've never got a text from them so I doubt they'll start now. Just got to sit and wait!

@Mamto2boys Great news! Hopefully you will get your back payment soon!
