@gemma1988 honestly that's how the waiting and anxiety gets you doesn't it 🤣 I just want a yes or a no now.. what did they say when you said that?

Said every case is different and some cases are easier to decide than others.

Boymummax · 13/06/2022 09:42

My sons form has been with a decision maker for 2 weeks, as it was a trainee it was passed to the supervisor last Tuesday. I have called this morning as I was told it should be done today, but they said its still with the supervisor 😔
She did say new claims are taking 10 weeks and I should hear this week, again unsure if she's just saying this to get me off the phone!

My scan date is the 8th of April so been very lucky getting it looked at before 8 weeks! But I didn't think it would take this long after being with the decision maker since the 30th of May!

Bizzlemizzle · 13/06/2022 09:53

I've managed to get my update on his file about new medication, just in time.

2 weeks ago I was told it would be with the DM in 2 weeks, today I've been told another 3 weeks. So from that I'm just taking it as - it'll happen when it happens.
Not sure I can go on another month of waiting but theyre cutting it fine now with the renewal date creeping up 🤣🥺

Mine is the 6th April hope to hear soon. Scared to ring again.

gemma1988 · 13/06/2022 10:44

Just rang. Was told that my claim hasn't been looked at yet and to ring back in 10 days to see if it's with a DM then, that will be over 11 weeks! He said claims are taking 8 to 12 weeks wouldn't tell me the date they are working on.

Bizzlemizzle · 13/06/2022 10:46

@gemma1988 He wouldn't tell me what date they are working from for renewals either but couple of weeks ago did!

That's the 3rd time and each time the agent has told me the dates. I might not even ring again and just wait for letter. He told me each person gets a text which I know is incorrect just off reading in the group !

Bizzlemizzle · 13/06/2022 10:55

@gemma1988 Yeah, I won't be ringing again due to the difference in information. I just can't be arsed with it. I have never had a text EVER from the DLA so that is incorrect.

I think it as my 3rd time calling - maybe they stop giving us information after so many times to stop us calling 😂😂

NoWordForFluffy · 13/06/2022 10:59

I might get my son's support plan from school to send as extra evidence; it appears I have time to do so!

Bizzlemizzle · 13/06/2022 11:02

@NoWordForFluffy 100% Do.

If I have had any extra evidence come through from sending the forms I've just posted it over and it's been put on the system pretty quickly. Just make sure you put all your DC details on anything you send.

I rang today because I don't have any physical evidence yet but knew it needed to be put on his claim. Lovely bloke again, but didn't have the information I wanted! 😁

NoWordForFluffy · 13/06/2022 11:12

I just didn't think I'd have time to get it, but seemingly I do! We only went in after Easter to sort it out, as the diagnosis report came through as they broke up. So it's quite new.

I hope he's awarded before we have the dyspraxia diagnosis though, as the appt is 25 June. I'll tell them he's being assessed though!

Boymummax · 13/06/2022 11:19

@gemma1988 don't be scared to ring :) you may get an answer!

I've rang told me to ring back in 10 days that will be over 11 weeks. Isn't even with a DM yet. I know it will be a no because I'm having a carry on with his nursery and if they contact them I think it will be a no. Basically his teacher told me all these things he does at nursery and said she suspects autism etc. Told me she would write a letter for his autism appointment and didn't mention anything she mentioned to me at parents evening.

Boymummax · 13/06/2022 11:34

@gemma1988 I'm sure they just say things to get you off the phone!
That's not very fair, telling you one thing and not writing it for you! Been very lucky with our sons preschool, I am fully qualified in childcare along with autism/adhd etc and knew all the signs with my son, but I wanted to see if his preschool picked anything up..... 4 days after him starting they did! They've been amazing and when the dm contacted them 2 weeks ago the senco told them everything they have told me and backed up everything I had said as they see it.

Maybe speak with the nursery and ask why they didn't write what they had told you? Or even speak to them about a phonecall they may receive and say you would appreciate them telling them asking what they have told you as it can help you're child get an award.

I told his teacher I had applied for DLA and said someone may ring you. She said I quote 'never in all my years of teaching has a parent asked me to help them claim money' now I was took back and nearly burst into tears. I am going to wait and see it the outcome of the claim then I'm going to write to the school and say you told me xyz and it's not in this letter you have wrote. Then I'm going to explain the way the teacher made me feel. Sounds stupid but we have 6 weeks left them he goes to reception I can't cope with funny looks off the teacher so I'm waiting to complain. My eldest is 10 and my youngest teacher used to teach him too! She even said to me that my youngest shows more signs at 3 than my other son at 5! BUT when my eldest was in her class she said there was nothing wrong with him. She's so wrong.

Bizzlemizzle · 13/06/2022 11:54

@gemma1988
When my DS was in nursery nothing was done, despite me raising concerns about him imitating behaviours, attention span and melt downs and them agreeing.

I was told so many times to wait to see if he would grow out of it. In reception, despite him being academically behind significantly and poor behaviour, poor attention span and heavy obsessions they would just not back me up or do anything about it.

"He will catch up"
"He behaves ok at school".

My youngest is about to start nursery and the contrast between them is so apparent, I don't think I will ever quite understand why things went they way they did and even now I kick myself for now pushing hard enough but at the time I didn't know how to or what to do.

We moved him schools and in year 1 is when the ball got properly rolling for him.

He hasn't caught up much, his behaviour is so bad at school now and everything in general is just hard.

I know it's not always the case but my gosh it has been an up hill battle for years. Everything is so slow, we are still waiting for official reports from March from a specialist team so we can move forward with an EHCP (another thing with a long waiting time), 3 years of sleepless nights to get medication and 1 year to get any referrals then 2 years from referral to diagnosis. He was only assessed for Dyslexia this year too.

You'd think i'd have adapted to waiting by now.

sanahtalha · 13/06/2022 11:59

hi
my sons application was received 31st March. still waiting for any news, I sent additional documents 2 weeks ago but I haven't heard anything back.
does anyone have any info on applying for Careers Allowance. My mum helped me a lot before and after school with my son but with him going to special school 22miles away from September plus my mum being 65+ I need to do something. can you apply while working and if approved leave work or do you have to not be working? Its so frustrating as I don't want to leave work then not be awarded and be stuck in a rut.

Bizzlemizzle · 13/06/2022 12:02

@sanahtalha Hi! Welcome,

This page has all the information about eligibility for carers allowance.

Tasha2020 · 13/06/2022 12:06

I’ve just called and they told me they are working on claims up to the 4th April this week. My scan date is 7th April so it’s going to be next week at the earliest for me. My 4 year old has development delays and is currently under paediatrician having had his first appt last Thursday. They are proceeding with genetic testing. He has had SALT involvement due to speech delay, has been seen by the educational psychologist (both reports sent in with claim) he also gets 21 hours of 1-2-1 support a week at nursery fully funded. EHCP is in process, however despite all of this I’ve almost convinced myself this claim won’t be successful so the wait is just filling me full of anxiety, I would rather just know either way :(

sanahtalha · 13/06/2022 12:15

thank you! x

Lozin · 13/06/2022 12:21

Can I ask how you know the date in which your form was received? Do the DWP text or email or write to you? I posted DS's application on Friday.

Tasha2020 · 13/06/2022 12:23

They should send you a letter within a couple of weeks stating the date the form was received and this is the date you will receive your back payment to if awarded x

gemma1988 · 13/06/2022 12:25

I was told off my health visitor to apply as she said my son need extra help compared to another 3 (now 4) year old. So I applied. He has been to see a consultant at the hospital who agrees he is on the spectrum, needs help and support at night and to communicate etc. Then nursery told me about all these issues and I thought champion I have some more evidence from nursery. I wouldn't have applied if I didn't have the nurseries back up. My eldest got DLA 4 years ago without any contact to the school but he was 6 going on 7. I think they will say a 4 year old still needs a lot of support in children that aren't autistic but we will see. I've got 2 children who don't sleep due to autism and I'm absolutely shattered and just want a answer so I can move on. Sorry for the rant. Feel like I have none to tall too and everyone on hear has been lovely to me.

I completely feel this message on a whole other level. It truly is exhausting and filling the forms out I felt like I was demonising my sweet little boy so it took me such a long time to complete them because it only wants the bad points and none of the good stuff so was emotionally drained writing this stuff about my child. I battled against the nursery when they first raised concerns because I didn’t want to accept my child wasn’t where he was supposed to be development wise and it took me a year to get on board with it all because I felt he just needed to “catch up”. He is doing better but still not where he is supposed to be. Always here if you need a chat, it’s tough but we will all do it for our little ones like the lionesses that we are ❤️

Lozin · 13/06/2022 12:47

Thanks so much, I have made two copies of my application, just incase it gets lost. I guess my received date will be end of June, so I probably won't hear until October!

The system is so so wrong @gemma1988 . I was having this discussion with my mum, who filled in the 'other people who know the child' part of the form. Everything with regards to SEN support seems to be an uphill battle. I'm sorry to hear your son's nursery has been unsupportive. I've found the same with the school my son is attending - they were very quick to tell me he had 'autistic traits' when I complained about social issues and bullying in his class, but also extremely quick to tell me he wouldn't be entitled to funding! I paid for my DS's private ASD diagnosis, wiping out our savings - I was quoted it would be up to 3 years wait on the NHS! By which point, my son would be approaching secondary school, having had little to no support in the meantime. It's awful.
