@sanahtalha if you are earning more than £132 pw after deductions you can’t claim carer’s allowance, you will need to finish working first. As long as DS is awarded at least MRC and you meet the eligibility criteria for carer’s allowance you will get it - it’s not like DLA where a judgement call is made on individual needs.

Bizzlemizzle · 13/06/2022 12:51

@gemma1988 I feel the same! I hate to bother friends and family about things as it's the only thing I seem to rant about, I swear I've lost friends over it. They wouldn't ever tell me that is why but I just started to go into my own bubble and deal with things silently.

@Tasha2020 I won't ever forget that same feeling when I filled out the forms for the first time, I cried so much because I felt I was just being horrible about him. The second time round I wrote it up on extremely bad days so I didn't feel as harsh but was also able to really get information down that needed to. I still felt bad but I knew it needed to be done more doing it that way.

gemma1988 · 13/06/2022 12:57

I sent the forms back 2 days before they were due back I paid for guaranteed next day delivery, because it took soooo long to fill in. I had a copy my eldest forms there to get a bit of an idea but obviously they have different needs and traits. The 11 weeks wait has killed me. There dad is telling me to wait it out and chill. Easier said than done. Everything is just a negative. Then with me having one child who gets MRC and LRM I was thinking are the DWP going to think I'm making this up. My mam said to me that nursery told me to get him checked out when he was in the 2 year old room, so it wasn't me who initiated it. I had one good friend but when my eldest got diagnosed with autism she stopped bothering with me. She knew he had issues was plain to see. So now I don't bother with friends as sad as that seems. I concentrate on my boys.

Lozin · 13/06/2022 13:08

@Bizzlemizzle Oh gosh, I felt so guilty too. I've got all the copies of it in a folder hidden at the top of my wardrobe, I am terrified my DS will read it as you have to write it so negatively focusing on all the struggles and none of the positives !!

Mynotsoperfectlittlefamily · 13/06/2022 13:29

My claim was received 30th March 2022. They decided yesterday, I rang this morning and got told what we were getting. Hope this helps with people's timelines

sanahtalha · 13/06/2022 14:46

@LargeLegoHaul thanks for the reply. I'll look into it, I work for the NHS 4 days a week so money wise its not really going to be worth it. might just see if they might let me go down to 2-3 days to make life a bit easier.

sanahtalha · 13/06/2022 14:47

@Mynotsoperfectlittlefamily that's great! I'm the 31st so fingers crossed we here back soon. xx

April202 · 13/06/2022 15:10

Bin told the reworking up to 4 April so should no more frodayc9s I'm ringing again to chase

Kayla77 · 13/06/2022 23:11

Hi All.

Just a question if anyone knows the answer to it - if I am successful with a claim that I have put in for my son (scan date 8th April) and haven't heard anything yet other than the 8 week sorry its taking so long letter.

So if I'm successful what are the benefits of claiming Carers Allowance if they take it all off your universal credit allowance. Any advice or info on this would be really really appreciated becaus I'm absolutely clueless when it comes to things like this.

Thanks so much. Xxx

I called again yesterday afternoon and they said my son has not been awarded 😔 even though we have expressed how much he struggles daily and his preschool have said about his IEP'S are there and written specifically for him and how they support him daily, the reasons they told me on the phone were....
"His IEP'S are not specific for him and can be for all children his age" these are in his name, 4 pages worth and specifically for him!
"The help and support he needs at home is pretty much the same as any child his age"
I'm sure they don't actually take much notice in what is written/sent to them. We are going to be submitting a mandatory reconsideration, anyone have any tips on this?
We have also managed to get our gp surgery to listen instead of telling us they can't help yet due to covid backlog!

We did not want the mobility side of it as we know our son can walk etc and does not need support in this but care needs being shuved aside is so unfair. I know I'm not the only one to have to appeal a decision but being so new to it makes it so much harder! So if you have any tips, please do let me know!

That's awful I will be in the same situation as you definitely when they look at it. Got that gut feeling and I'm never wrong. I think you need to ask for a mandatory reconsideration in the post. Good luck. My son is also 4 and I think they will use the age excuse.

Boymummax · 14/06/2022 09:26

@gemma1988 felt so deflated! But today I am ready to fight for him. The lady on the phone was just as shocked as me, she even said the reasons aren't very useful. She said the letter will take 7-10days to get to me but as she told me the reasons I have already done a letter requesting a mandatory reconsideration.
I really hope you have better luck than me! If a child is being supported at home more than a child his age, plus in a childcare setting, surely that shows they are struggling/in need of support.
I spoke with my sons preschool manager and she said they have another parent who has a child very similar to my son and they were refused yesterday too! Seems it was a day to refuse 🙄
If you're child is refused, keep fighting! Our children deserve the help and support they need!

I'm having bother with the nursery so I can kiss this claim goodbye! What was your scan date please.

Boymummax · 14/06/2022 09:51

@gemma1988 that's so rubbish! My scan date was the 8th of April.

Bizzlemizzle · 14/06/2022 10:00

I'm so sorry to hear you have been refused @Boymummax

I came across this the other week (link below), it's the medical document for DMs (or one of them) and it's on the gov site. It might be useful to have a look through to argue refusals.
Gov.uk - DLA Medical Guidelines.

I do think some things such as terminology are a little out dated on this but still may help.

Boymummax · 14/06/2022 10:04

@Bizzlemizzle ahh thats amazing thank you so much!

Bizzlemizzle · 14/06/2022 10:06

@Boymummax You're welcome, I'm not sure if it will have exactly what you need, it is a really big document with a lot of medical conditions but maybe somewhere it might have just what you need.

Legofigure · 14/06/2022 10:17

@Boymummax ask for a statement of reasons. If you didn’t use the Cerebra guide when completing the form look at it for the MR.

@Kayla77 If you are in Wales or Scotland (latter unlikely since you said DLA) the big benefit is the additional carer’s payments. Even if you are not it is worth considering England and NI may follow suit and announce it for those in receipt of carer’s allowance. Those only receiving UC carer element won’t be eligible.

Carer’s allowance also gives better national insurance credits.

Other benefits include some places use carer’s allowance as evidence for a free/discounted carer’s ticket rather than the child’s DLA, some areas use it as eligibility criteria for their carer’s grants etc., not being reliant on one source of income e.g. if UC award is wrong one month you still have CA. Then there are benefits you will not know of until they happen - e.g. carers in receipt of carer’s allowance found getting a covid vaccine easier under group 6 than those only registered as a carer on their GP’s system.

Thank you very much for that info, much appreciated very useful to know. I'm going to call this afternoon to see where they're are with the dates.

@Boymummax

I'm really sorry to hear your claim has been declined. Good luck with the appeal process. I've got a funny old feeling mines gonna be the same as our claims are similar. I'll keep u all posted.

NoWordForFluffy · 14/06/2022 11:31

Sorry to hear that, @Boymummax. I hope your MR is successful.

I rang earlier to alert them to the additional evidence which arrived with them this morning. The bloke was very vague about dates for possible response. Said it's 9-10 weeks, and it's 9 weeks today for me. Hopefully the additional evidence helps.

Boymummax · 14/06/2022 11:44

@Bizzlemizzle thank you! I will be having a read through it this afternoon when little one is at preschool.

@Legofigure they have said they were sending this yesterday but said it could take up to 10 working days! She didn't tell me reasons over the phone though!

@Kayla77 I hope you are successful! Such a deflating feeling being declined! If you are declined, don't give up. 😊

@NoWordForFluffy thank you so much, I really hope it is! Trying to put in words how much care you're child needs is so difficult, we as parents/carers know our children and know when they need support! If only they could take the time to realise that not just mine but so many other children are being pushed aside and the reasons are "age"

Does anyone know how long an MR usually takes? I have read "a few weeks" but wanted to know if anyone knows from experience.

Bizzlemizzle · 14/06/2022 11:59

@Boymummax Good luck with your MR, I have read myself around a month seems to be the going time scale. But who knows?

I think Citizens Advice state it can take a few months but I do think that will be all down to circumstances.

@NoWordForFluffy They're probably watching the threads on here and Facebook and though "Ah we best stop saying dates or they'll keep ringing" 😂😂

Also good luck to everyone back end of March start of April scan dates, the wait is almost over.

I've decided I'm ringing weekly just to be a royal pain in the arse because I have no patience left in me 😂

SickKid · 14/06/2022 12:45

@Bizzlemizzle 10 weeks for me this week and I'm ringing Friday. Hoping it will be next week but will ring anyway to see what they say!

Willowoo · 14/06/2022 12:45

My child has just been awarded mrc scan date was the 28th February. What happens with universal credit when ur awarded do they give u extra money aswell on top? Do I need to message them? If someone could tell me please.
