We're going to the DC's school summer fair next weekend. I hate them but kids seem to love them so I'm the only one with overwhelm wanting to hide under a table in our family, luckily (and generally I manage not to!)

DD had a good weekend I think. She managed very well today with new people (they have a big garden with a massive trampoline so that helped a lot!) She actually managed to say hello when we arrived (which is not a big deal for me but wow I nearly fell over!) and then warmed up pretty quickly. We had a terrible drive back home though, so they had a late bedtime, and I hope we haven't undone all the benefit of a nice relaxed weekend! Hopefully even the drive was pretty chilled for them.

openupmyeagereyes · 27/06/2022 06:58

Well this morning was 20 mins better! 😆

Light glad dd did well at the new friend’s house.

Lots of covid around at the moment. I’m testing daily as I was exposed last week. I think I’m probably in the clear by now though.

LightTripper · 27/06/2022 12:26

Fingers crossed you continue to swerve it @open, and that you get some more 20 minuteses to add to this morning's!

carriebradshawwithlessshoes · 27/06/2022 13:33

Did he want to go to the summer fair Open before you set off? I’m with Light in that these things fill me with dread, in fact I have an aversion nowadays to ‘forced fun’ or places that are too busy whether that’s something like this or a restaurant or holiday spot etc. I’m not remotely on the spectrum or anxious, just a miserable old bugger nowadays 🤣.

openupmyeagereyes · 27/06/2022 15:27

He wanted to go carrie. I knew he wouldn’t stay long but felt we needed to give him the opportunity.

danni0509 · 28/06/2022 11:36

We went strawberry picking at the weekend, ds was well behaved which was good! We went last year and he was totally feral!

We are edging closer to our holiday and I’m just wanting to get it over with now or get on it at least so I can see if it’s as bad as I thought.

He is really looking forwards to it, but I’m still nervous as I know how he can be. I just hope it all goes ok.

School authorised the holiday by the way!

His teacher said it would do him good to have a week away as it’s a long term and they have moved schools recently (they’ve been in a temporary building since before ds started) and a lot of the children aren’t coping with the change, ds has had visits every day and seems ok but when we get back he is there properly.

He also has a new teacher from September so the week he goes back she is starting with his group so he’ll meet her then.

That sounds like really nice timing actually @danni0509 . Hopefully with DS seeming more regulated generally he will be able to really enjoy the holiday despite the changes to routine! Can you give him some visual prep for the airport/plane etc?

carriebradshawwithlessshoes · 28/06/2022 13:44

It seems like he’s in a good place Danni, why are you worried? Are you in a hotel or apartment?

am sure it will be lovely… there will be ups and downs but that’s normal! Are you worried about anything in particular and can you do anything about it (like my seat kicking example!!!).

school told us it’s blanket policy not to authorise any hols so I’m expecting a fine (x2) as it’s 2 weeks. However the upside is that DS now has only 8 days left in the god awful place!!! I feel like having a ceremonial uniform burning in the garden if anyone fancies popping round…

danni0509 · 28/06/2022 15:35

We are in a hotel carrie.

Im just worried / nervous, probably due to the PTSD from our previous holidays 🤣🤣🤣🤣

We stayed at the same hotel when he was 4, he threw a metal model aeroplane off the balcony about 6 floors up, I’m just glad it never killed anyone, because it would of done! I didn’t dare check incase I see brain splatter!🤣

As I say he does listen more now, usually, and can be threatened / bribed a bit more, so I’m hoping it goes better than I’m expecting.

With ds it all depends on what mood he’s in, and his moods are a bit more reliable now in that he’s either ok or he’s not, not so up and down, so I’m hoping it goes ok. But who knows how he’ll be, being away from home, his normal etc etc.

I honestly can’t call it, he’s been on medication such a short time and we haven’t been away recently, so I honestly don’t know how it will go. x

Thank you light hope you’re ok x

danni0509 · 28/06/2022 15:40

He is more chilled with his moods and listening better etc but he’s still impulsive / nuts and it’s shit like that I dread, we’ve been on holiday before and when you check your bags in he went down the conveyor belt and they had to press the emergency stop, he’s tried to touch the gun the airport police carry etc

I just think maybe I should of gone on holiday next year when he’s been on his medications a bit longer and learnt how to behave because currently that’s what he’s doing, learning to listen to instructions, and do as he’s told etc.

Thats why I have PTSD from before 🤣 I should of never of done it xx

I’ll join you on zoom for the ceremonial uniform burning event. 😂😂

openupmyeagereyes · 28/06/2022 16:10

Wow carrie, 8 days, that’s great. The sooner he’s out of there the better IMO. I hope his session goes well tomorrow.

danni sounds like a pretty good chance that ds’ behaviour will be much better this holiday, but I understand your reticence. Fingers crossed for you.

carriebradshawwithlessshoes · 28/06/2022 19:44

Danni, PTSD 🤣🤣🤣. I am sure it will be ok.

absolutely Open, I couldn’t agree more. Will let you know about tmrw. It’s his birthday so I just want a nice day with no hassle!

dimples76 · 28/06/2022 20:09

I would definitely be up for the ceremonial uniform burning.

Ended up taking DS to the docs yesterday and he is now on antibiotics for his chicken pox. He has been v poorly poor love and despite being really good about not scratching some have got infected. Unfortunately he doesn't like the taste of the medicine and he spat the first dose out onto my face - fun times!

openupmyeagereyes · 28/06/2022 21:43

Oh poor ds dimples, I do hope he’s better soon. He must be thoroughly miserable and uncomfortable.

I hope ds has a lovely birthday carrie. What have you got him, I know toys are tricky.

openupmyeagereyes · 28/06/2022 21:44

dimples you need one of those covid face shields!

carriebradshawwithlessshoes · 28/06/2022 21:54

Open, the trampoline is a joint present! Some maths things, he’s also just started getting into waxidoodles, have you seen them?? Lots of outdoor stuff, new scooter, books. He loves books (just not toys!!!).

poor DS Dimples! At least he’s had it now!

dimples76 · 29/06/2022 06:42

I do Open!

Happy Birthday to your DS Carrie

SusanStoHelitsPoker · 29/06/2022 07:31

Glad to hear your DS seems happier @danni0509 and best of luck with the holiday. I do these social story type things to e plain what happens at every stage, eg the airport, that seemed to help reduce anxiety.
@dimples76 oh dear poor DS! And poor you!
@carriebradshawwithlessshoes happy birthday to your DC! Those sound like lovely presents. I'm off to look up waxidoodles...!
I genuinely think DS and I have some form of ptsd from our mainstream school experience! I still get so anxious and stressed going to any school event. It's horrible. I saw his ex head teacher in passing yesterday and had to restrain myself from being horrible as I know I'm a better person than her. She smiled really smugly at me and I just turned my head and walked past her! Horrible woman. Obviously never know anyone personally with sen, the way she treated little ones like my DS just made everything so hard. How do these people get these jobs???

danni0509 · 29/06/2022 07:34

Happy birthday to your ds carrie and your dd too, I know they share a birthday quite close together.

Dimples I hope your ds is ok, with my ds I have to put erythromycin (he’s allergic to penicillin) into fresh orange juice. It’s the only way he takes them, or anything for that matter.

I can actually imagine you all coming to my house for a cup of tea not daring to drink it incase I’ve added any special ingredients 🤣🤣

danni0509 · 29/06/2022 07:35

Cross posted susan! Hope you’re ok.

I can’t believe we are nearly into thread 10!

OP posts:
SusanStoHelitsPoker · 29/06/2022 07:36

Sounds like a fun tea party @danni0509 🤣

danni0509 · 29/06/2022 07:38

When I was little I used to love medicine, I can remember drinking calpol from the bottle when my mum wasn’t watching, I never did tell her either! And those little chewy vitamins I used to eat handfuls! Probably why I’m tapped in the head! 🤣😂

dimples76 · 29/06/2022 08:00

Danni I used to get loads of ear infections as a child and loved the banana flavoured amoxicillin. I was almost excited when DS was first prescribed it but without the sugar yuck! To be fair to DS this flucloxacillin smells v strong and unpleasant. I bribed DS with chocolate to take it this morning. It's 4 times a day though so that is a lot of sugar to get the sugar free meds down!

LightTripper · 29/06/2022 09:31

Happy birthday to your DS @carriebradshawwithlessshoes - hope he had a lovely day! Re: school I'd be tempted to just say he's too anxious to come in - would they be on your case, or given he's leaving would they just shrug and leave you to it? Seems ridiculous you would get fined for refusing to send him somewhere that has nothing positive to say about him and nothing positive to suggest to actually help him learn.

Hope the anti-b's help DS soon @dimples and that you're not faced with any more spitting! Poor thing that was bad luck. It does seem to be going around in London at the moment, I know a couple of kids that have it and it was in my DC's school just before half term (but luckily half term kind of acted as a circuit breaker). I would definitely give DS as much sugar as it takes to get them down -it's only for a few days and if I had to take something that tasted foul I would definitely reward myself with sugar after to take the taste away!
