Hi @Polly421
Look back at my posts and you’ll see I have recently gone through the new Scotland child disability payment application.
Basically, my daughter’s renewal for DLA was submitted late so it was considered new rather than renewal and they contacted me to say that I would need to apply to the Scottish system instead now.
Our application was received 9th Jan. We got payment last week for 7 weeks of back payments from 9th Jan.
Our decision letter came five days after this back payment. It said the decision was made by decision makers 5 working days before the back payment.
So it took them 6 weeks to make the decision.
7 weeks in total to get the back payment.
The decision letter is really informative. It gives a total breakdown of their decision making process unique to my child’s application and details. Pages of really personalised justifications for the rates they have awarded her.
They say that it is not expected to change so we have been awarded until she is 18 and they said they’ll get in touch at that stage to discuss next steps. I assume about moving her on to PIP? So we have about five years before we need to do any sort of new application or renewal.
Having been through the DLA process and now the new Scottish process, I have to say this was much easier. Able to do it online, very quick to answer the phone if you call them with an enquiry, quick decision making time in comparison to DLA, very thorough and personalised decision making report to make it clear why they have come to the decision.
If you have any questions, please feel free to tag me and ask. I also found it difficult to get any sort of support online from other applicants since it is such a new system!
FYI, you don’t really get any updates from them other than the initial text or email to say they have received your application. There was no contact from them between this initial email and then the back payment. I was able to work out rates from the back payment amount and then the letter/report came five days later which detailed everything.
It is paid every four weeks on a Friday.
