NRRK28 · 20/01/2022 22:41

Hi All,

I have ASD 2 years old boy and i sent DLA form for him in 7 dec 2021. But I haven’t received any news yet. How long is usually you get awarded?

The thing is i want to put my son in 2 years old nursery but i’m not eligible for 2 years old funding. I found the nursery that i like and my son can start there after easter but they want funding from the government.

There are another way to get funded by government is via DLA. I need to get the DLA first then i can apply for funding 2 years old in nursery. Do you know how is the process for apply funding 2 years old through DLA route??

Thank you

I know the feeling it’s been 9 weeks on Monday for me but some people have been waiting longer

Amyxkx · 12/03/2022 09:55

We have been waiting 19 weeks yesterday for change of circumstances and heard nothing, just that they are working on the week her claim was received now, but these are gaming a lot longer than new claims x

Emzi89 · 12/03/2022 11:55

I received a letter from them today asking for extra evidence. I've until the 23rd to return it then no idea how much longer it will take 😥🤷‍♀️

Helpimfalling · 12/03/2022 18:13

Helpimfalling · 12/03/2022 18:17

@CoffeeFirstPlease

Just called this morning to give more information and was told me claim was already successful! I'm so shocked HRC and LRM until Dec 2023! I am so glad I applied now as I had no idea she would be entitled! My claim was scanned on the 21.12 for anyone around that date
Just received my yes may I ask what the disability is so I can rough idea of what rates we will get please.
Lozmo08 · 13/03/2022 08:58

That great news, they just seem to be so behind probably something to do with covid. What extra evidence did they want ? I have included a week diary, SENCO plan and child psychologist report which says my son is functioning two to three years behind his age. It’s all new to me and happening so fast. X

Meganos · 13/03/2022 09:03

Mine 10 December and still no decision.. Last week I got a letter to send more I information and I sent it back straightaway. Its been a week now and my documents still havnt been scanned yet! I was told it can take up to 14 days to scan it... I don't know is it a joke??!! Do they really need 2 weeks to scan 2 pages? I believe this qualify to make a complaint as they don't respect parents who made the claim and been waiting such a long time!

Helpimfalling · 13/03/2022 09:12

I just saw on the DLA fb page that a few that have sent original claims in feb' have received a text saying they've been awarded.

Toritot1984 · 13/03/2022 10:04

How have they got it so quick when others are waiting for ages

Helpimfalling · 13/03/2022 10:11

I don't know it seems so unfair doesn't it.

But they have screen shot the message.
So I presume it's true.

Mum2gbg · 13/03/2022 10:16

@Helpimfalling what page is this? I saw on another page someone has been awarded and claim went in on 5th of Jan so hoping not much longer of a wait but who knows x

Emzi89 · 13/03/2022 10:44

@Lozmo08 they've asked for details for his gastroenterology team and details of camera study they were supposed to do last month at hospital. Have sent the gastro team details and a letter to explain they didn't do the camera test and the letter from hospital proving that so waiting game again.
Good luck to you and hope you hear back soon x

Imitatingdory · 13/03/2022 11:50

It may be that the claims in February were under the special rules.

Xandersmumma · 13/03/2022 12:57

So my sons claim has denied. 11weeks for them to say that! Has anyone had to appeal? How long does that take? I think it’s because he is a baby and only 8mths old but every professional that he is under are saying he should be entitled. Does anyone have any experience with this please?

Meganos · 13/03/2022 13:01

What special rules in February...?

@Meganos special rules are all the time but exceptional circumstances when the young person you are applying for has been given a life expectancy diagnosis
@Xandersmumma
Sorry you've been turned down :( I have no experience on where to go next just didn't want to read and not reply

Polly421 · 13/03/2022 13:47

@Xandersmumma sorry to hear this. When you put in the application did you send evidence from these professional to back up his case? Your next step should be to go over their reasoning why he’s not eligible and request mandatory reconsideration. Try get any further evidence you can to send them in.
I’m currently going through the form for the new Scottish benefit for my son whos 18months as the professional he’s under has said he’s eligible and they have all offered to send out letters/reports to state the additional care he needs so send along with our form.

Good luck I hope you appeal.

Abwill · 13/03/2022 13:53

@Xandersmumma we got turned down too but im mandatory reconsideration turns out because i relyed on them contracting our consultants and no evidence tgey didnt bother contacting them so im having to write it all up again and send evidence hopefully this time we can be awarded and it will be back paid almost 20 weeks so we can do his bedroom out with the payment every cloud and all that xx good luck xx

Xandersmumma · 13/03/2022 14:42

It was filled out by a brain injury charity and his consultant neurologist sent in a 2 page letter to go with it. He has physio 5 times daily, is under portage and needs multiple disability adaptions which OT has accessed him for. None of which sent in a letter as the charity lady said the consultant letter would be enough. I guess not. So frustrating as they said he’s like any other baby and needs constant care! I wish he was like any other baby! They really have no idea! 😢

Xandersmumma · 13/03/2022 14:44

He had an ischemic stroke at 5 weeks old.

Abwill · 13/03/2022 15:18

Its so difficult with a baby they will push not to award if they can but in reality a "normal" babiy doesn't have physio 5 times a day so definitely send a mr in with the physio letters you should be awarded. its much harder to get awarded for younger children unfortunately it shouldnt be the case though xx

Polly421 · 13/03/2022 15:22

@Xandersmumma tomorrow I would contact yours sons physio and ask if they can give you supporting later and his care plan they have for him. Our last week said she will bring one out for us this week to send with our form and his occupational therapist is doing same as she has supplied us with specialist aid for him sitting in and bath chair for extra support. His specialised nurse called this week and offered to send us same as she read on their system I asked for them to help with support for applying. It’s terrible they don’t contact people you put down on the form by looks of it so you best to try get as much as you can send it after you’ve asked for mandatory reconsideration. Our son is 18 months undiagnosed currently looks like gross motors development delay, he got genetic blood test later this month to rule things out hopefully. He has a very weak left side barely move on that side and is unable to sit unsupported so does need for his age a lot more care with everyday things.

Xandersmumma · 13/03/2022 16:47

Thank you yes I have already text the physio. Will request something from the OT and portage too. Did your son get refused too? He sounds like he has very similar needs to mine son. He also has a very weak left side and has very minimal movement in is left arm and hand. I hope you get your answers soon.

Polly421 · 13/03/2022 17:21

No I’m just filling out the form the now but it’s changed in Scotland to child disability payment so you can do it all online and save it so I’ve just been completing a bit each night and once I get the support letters I’ll upload them to claim and send it off. I went through the DLA process last year with my little girl as we believe she’s autistic so familiar with how it all goes. The Scottish version so far form wise seem simpler and my sons specialised nurse we see said on phone other day it’s meant to be simpler process now so I’ll soon find out if that true once I get it all upload.
