@10brokengreenbottles

Obviously my housing my children my standard allowance is all in my UC along with disability and carers element then deductions through my earnings through work then with a backdated carers allowance I wouldn't want it to completely wipe my claim with UC out because of the backdated payment if you understand what I mean

10brokengreenbottles · 03/09/2021 23:53

I know what you mean. As I said, I am unsure, I don't claim UC myself, but I imagine it would come off in one lump sum.

But even if it did come off in one lump sum you wouldn't be any worse off. You would have the same amount of money. It would just be made up of carer's allowance and UC rather than all UC.

It's up to you, obviously, but there are no disadvantages of you claiming CA, but there are advantages, and people can't really complain at the lack of support if there are options out there but they choose not to follow it up.

X post. I should have refreshed before posting.

Due to the supersession rules and reg 73 your claim won't end even if the backdated CA takes you above your normal UC limit in the month it is paid. This is because the backdated CA should not all be attributed to that assessment period, some should be apportioned to the previous assessment periods.

Separately, I believe it is important to claim so there are accurate statistics about unpaid carers, otherwise unpaid carers are always going to be the forgotten subsection of society.

Alk19 · 04/09/2021 00:15

@10brokengreenbottles
I'm not complaining of lack of support because obviously it's took £ for £ so your no better of anyway I would only be considering it due to going towards pension ect I've heard different stories regarding it and mainly from it being took back in deductions I would have to enquire

10brokengreenbottles · 04/09/2021 00:32

But there are advantages to claiming carer's allowance even though it is deducted £ for £. As Marvel posted there are considerations around NI contributions and making sure there's more than one source of income.

There's also advantages such as carer discounts (some places require the carer to have proof of CA rather than the person being cared for's DLA/PIP), some LAs require you to be in receipt of CA in order to be eligible for a carer's grant and there are things you may not normally think about such as covid vaccinations.

Alk19 · 04/09/2021 00:37

@10brokengreenbottles
Vaccines not a problem like I said the only reason I'd consider it is towards the national insurance/ pension I will enquire to see if it would be took in one lump sum as direct debits ect are all set out to come out on the day of my uc so I don't want to be messing about changing it all for one month

Ems1991 · 04/09/2021 08:53

@alk19 I'm not sure it has to be backdated but I will be backdating it if I qualify because I will get something in December but I'm hoping it that the element like carers element and child disability when backdate will help kind of sort it if it does get taking out if you find out can you put it on it please x

Alk19 · 04/09/2021 09:03

@Ems1991 yeah sure I've put a message on my journal as quite a few things I've read have said it would be taken back as a debt but will updat x

Ems1991 · 04/09/2021 09:16

Hi everyone, I sent my dla claim the beginning ofJuly, and they recieved it on the 12th of July. My 8 weeks is up on Monday (6th September) I recieved a letter today saying that they're sorry they've not given me a decision yet and they're looking into it and will write back to me ASAP. Has anybody had a decision yet from around the same time as me? How long after the letter did you get a decision? Was there a text? Sorry for all the questions 😅, im new to all of this and I just want to kit my son out with the sensory things x

Mumof5babies · 04/09/2021 15:09

Gemconks · 04/09/2021 16:46

@Helenmelond I've read the thread too, it is very nerve wracking. I need to be put out of my misery haha but yes we'll see what happens in the next few weeks 🤞x

Mumof5babies · 04/09/2021 18:30

It's daunting. I've not been able to get any help at all with his bowel problems. He's 11 next week can't shower himself or clean himself i have to dress him still. He's just been diagnosed with ASD currently waiting on transfer to a hospital miles away from home for a different bowel specialist seems to be never ending. A bit of good news would be great right now

Gemconks · 04/09/2021 18:46

@Mumof5babies aww I'm really sorry you're going through that, really hope you get get some good news ASAP 🤞 x

10brokengreenbottles · 04/09/2021 18:50

Gemconks have you checked to see if you are eligible for a family fund grant? Also, Cerebra and Newlife have sensory toys available to loan.

Gemconks · 04/09/2021 19:55

@10brokengreenbottles no I haven't looked into that, to be honest I didn't know there was a grant, I'll have a quick look now, thank you x

Ems1991 · 04/09/2021 20:24
