It's shocking really because if you get another benefit that affects your uc they will automatically take the money off you but when your due money from them they not as quick to tell you x

Alk19 · 03/09/2021 17:14

@Mummy2boys1520
I'm not to sure if it will affect it probably best speaking to them about that but I'd definitely apply for it anyway x

Supermomsof4 · 03/09/2021 17:15

My son is autistic and has speech delays so he was claiming DLA in 2012 until 2014 however due to me moving out of the country i was unable to claim again when i came back as i had to wait for 2 years which i did and i applied this year again my form was received on the 7th july and yesterday i was accepted on higher rate and low mobility until july 22 . My son is 12 a payment has been sent to my account . Good luck everyone you’ve been extremely helpful .
I did send a tone of papers just so you know

MyDcAreMarvel · 03/09/2021 17:24

@Mummy2boys1520 the woman you spoke to was wrong the call advisors are often ignorant of the guidance which is why dm’s deal with things. As long as you report with a month of you finding out the decision it will 100% be backdated until the dla start date.

Mummy2boys1520 · 03/09/2021 17:25

@MyDcAreMarvel I really hope so thank you for your help

MyDcAreMarvel · 03/09/2021 17:27

@Mummy2boys1520 it’s is worth claiming carers for several reasons , it’s a weekly payment, will still be paid if your UC randomly messes up one month, you get an NI credit for your state pension.

MyDcAreMarvel · 03/09/2021 17:28

No prob it will be fine honestly, they should have advisors who are properly trained!

Alk19 · 03/09/2021 17:37

@MyDcAreMarvel
I was going to claim because it does qualify towards your pension but I'm worried that it'll just mess my uc up if there's more payments in one month than another ect do you find it easier or more hassle?

MyDcAreMarvel · 03/09/2021 17:47

I don’t claim UC only carers, but the carers and the UC are dealt with separately it won’t mess up your UC it will just be reduced £ for £.
I have a friend whose UC randomly stopped for no apparent reason so she lived off child benefit and carers for a few weeks while it was sorted.

10brokengreenbottles · 03/09/2021 18:20

supermom That is strange, the shortest award is normally 2 years.

mummy2boys whilst you can claim carer's allowance while also claiming PIP you should be prepared for it to be mentioned at your next PIP renewal. For example, if you say you can't do something but also say you do he same thing for DS they will question you on it.

If you also get the LCW or LCWRA element of UC you can not claim carer's allowance or the carer element as well. If you get the LCW element you would get more money if you got the carer element instead.

Mummy2boys1520 · 03/09/2021 18:34

@10brokengreenbottles I get the LCWRA, so I can't claim the carers element on universal credits

Supermomsof4 · 03/09/2021 18:38

@10brokengreenbottles even last time i was awarded for a year too i don’t know why

Princess23 · 03/09/2021 19:13

Hi has anybody heard from claims dated 14th July yet please x

Alk19 · 03/09/2021 19:18

@10brokengreenbottles
If I was to claim the carers allowance and that was backdated would that come out of my uc all at once?

Ems1991 · 03/09/2021 19:37

@princess23 my claims the same date I was told another 2-3weeks 👎x

mum1213 · 03/09/2021 20:00

they are crazy inundated my renewal runs out thursday it’s not even with a decision maker yet

Mummyemx · 03/09/2021 20:08

@mum1213

they are crazy inundated my renewal runs out thursday it’s not even with a decision maker yet
Omg have they really not even given yours to a decision maker yet? I hope they sort yours out asap!! I think I will have the same problem, my sons runs out in 4 weeks X
Ems1991 · 03/09/2021 20:20

BTW I went to the start of this chat and a lot of the people who claim then got there's in 4-8 weeks we all claimed at the wrong time I think ours is taking a long time x

PeppaPigPocoyo · 03/09/2021 20:29

@Princess23

Hi has anybody heard from claims dated 14th July yet please x
My claim was received on 8th of July and I still haven’t heard yet. You’ll have a couple more weeks wait, I spoke to them on the phone they said that new claims are taking 8 weeks minimum at the moment x
mum1213 · 03/09/2021 21:07

@Mummyemx nope they said they are doing them the week before the run out. They had my form since 28th of may so 14 weeks today. She claims they won’t let it go over the 9th sept but honestly i’m not so sure at all

10brokengreenbottles · 03/09/2021 22:33

Alk I don't know, I don't receive UC just CA, but I imagine so, yes. Supersession rules apply and Reg 73 states backdated CA shouldn't be treated as a lump sum but divided in to the previous months assessment periods.

The other advantage of claiming carer's allowance is that the letter of entitlement is sometimes used as evidence for free or discounted entry to places. And, as we saw earlier in the year carers claiming CA found it easier to get a covid vaccination than carers not in receipt of CA but just registered as a carer with their GP.

PeppaPigPocoyo · 03/09/2021 23:00

The lady I spoke to on the phone at DLA today said I should get a decision by Monday or Tuesday, I’m so nervous :(

I’m going to be absolutely devastated if it’s rejected after over an 8 week wait.

Alk19 · 03/09/2021 23:15

@10brokengreenbottles
See I wouldn't want that to happen especially so near to Xmas I wouldn't want it to put me short and mess everything up I'm thinking it's more hassle than it's worth considering they are some perks I just don't think it's necessary at the minute

10brokengreenbottles · 03/09/2021 23:27

That doesn't make sense, you won't end up with less money because you will get the carer's allowance.

Using imaginary figures: if you normally receive £1k UC and receive £500 backdated CA which should have been deducted £ for £ from previous UC assessment periods then you will still receive £1k overall - just £500 will be from UC and £500 from CA.

Alk19 · 03/09/2021 23:46

@10brokengreenbottles
What I mean is would that come out in one lump sum from universal credit or will it be deducted monthly I don't want to be faffing around for the sake of it really
