I had a letter two weeks after I sent the form to say they had recieved it but nothing since

Mumof5babies · 02/09/2021 10:25

Your lucky hun i sent mine special delivery didn't get a letter i rang them up after a few weeks they got it 8th scanned in on 9th but had nothing at all from them. 8 weeks today they've had mine

PeppaPigPocoyo · 02/09/2021 10:26

@Mumof5babies

They've had mine since 8th july and had no text or letter lol.
Me too, I had to call after 3 weeks to ask why I hadn’t had a letter or text to say they’ve got it. And now it’s been 8 weeks and not even a letter to say “hey sorry but don’t worry we are working on your claim!”. Absolutely nothing from them, and I’m just told to call end of next week 😞
Ems1991 · 02/09/2021 10:27

It's shouldn't be to long now 🤞@peppapigpocoyo @Kirstie1990 I was the same at the begin but It's became clear there not much I can do to speed up the process I just decide to check in once a week to see if its been award yet finger cross we all hear soon I wish the dwp and the government would stop making us wait long period for help it affects the children more than they think and families as a whole it's quite sad they can't see this 😪

PeppaPigPocoyo · 02/09/2021 10:37

It’s just so difficult waiting past 8 weeks with no update. I’ve got universal credit bugging me to start work as my daughter turns 3 next month but I can’t as due to her social issues nursery refuse to take her as she will just hide and refuses to eat or drink for the entire time she’s away from home. I can’t even leave her with my mum or one of my older sisters as she just can not cope with being around people - even if I’m with her! I’ve told my work coach at universal credit all this but all they said it the only way to not be required to start work is if I become a carer for my daughter, which means she would need DLA. So I risk having my uc taken away from me as nursery’s just can’t take a child who won’t eat or drink whilst at the nursery, even if that is due to her being SEN child.

Ems1991 · 02/09/2021 10:54

@peppapigpocoyo my daughter hours where cut In nursery to 1.5 hours The nursery should be accommodating her need i kick up and every child age 3 is intial regardless of there needs if they can't cope they have to flag it so she get the help she needs Ariah doesn't eat in nursery she's only in the morning she will eat bannana for them and a packet of crisps but she will have lunch when she comes home at 12.20 she's still been feed by me with a spoon won't eat at all unless I feed her myself and she will only eat baby food refuses to try new foods my ot told me she has no interest in feeding herself and she has issue with texture of food . the job centre must be able to extend your work realty commitments until you at least get a award notice you have done what they asked it's there faults it taking so long and I would say that to them It really annoys me how dwp is treating family's with children with Asn the future really worries me x

Mumof5babies · 02/09/2021 10:57

@PeppaPigPocoyo yes infuriating. I've sent them everything too doc specialist school reports diagnosis referrals. Takes forever. Hoping not too much longer. Going to ring next week see if anyone is looking at it yet think a lot of them still on furlough

PeppaPigPocoyo · 02/09/2021 11:14

@Ems1991 how do they expect us to work when a nursery won’t take them or will only take them for a couple hours! My work coach said she’s ok for me to do 10 hours a week instead of 16 but how can I even do that?! My daughters social problems are really quite significant. She won’t even take a sip of a drink if I take her shopping with me, I can’t see my mum or family because of how upset she gets, and in nursery she would scream and cry and hide and refuse to eat or drink even a sip of something. She has meltdowns with eye contact and if someone talks to her directly. I have a SEN lady who is helping me to get her to nursery and she said she’d took to find a nursery near me that will let me stay with my daughter for the first couple months but that was about 2 months ago and she hasn’t found any that will let me stay with her because of covid restrictions. It’s just ridiculous because I’ve got nursery’s that I speak to that are saying ‘no we can’t take her if she won’t eat or drink, at most we can do an hour a day’ and then in the other ear I’ve got universal credit saying ‘we will let you work 10 hours minimum a week and if not then you’ll get sanctioned and lose money’ it’s so awful. It feels like there is no support or understanding from the government, I’m really worried about the future too. I’m lost if DLA gets rejected

Kirstie1990 · 02/09/2021 11:31

Fingers crossed you all hear soon ladies! Such a stressful time isnt it, yeahh i know theres nothing i can do to speed it up just a waiting game isnt it! Xx

Mumof5babies · 02/09/2021 11:33

@PeppaPigPocoyo I'm lost I'm not on universal credit or anything but i always thought they pushed people into work when the youngest was in fulltime education? Why now when just at nursery age? My sister is on UC and she told them she was waiting on DLA so she could put in for carers and they put a note or something down and said they'd ring her in 4 weeks to see if she had heard anything. I've heard so much about UC they sound awful to deal with

Ems1991 · 02/09/2021 11:40

Asn children are been left behind especially during covid it's not right your child is entiltled to nursery just like every other child .Have you tried calling your local mp they can help you aswell believe it or not 🤔It fells like a postcode lottery given everything you've just said I don't think you will be rejected and you have a pretty strong appeal even if you are it's the constant fighting to have to get the support you need it's wrong it's hard enough the struggle we are all going through without long waiting list and added pressure to find all this evidence that no one tells you you need It at the beginning. I hope we here back soon keep me posted on how things go but I would phone the job centre and tell them your awaiting a a decision in the main time it's infuriating how much there lacking in basic empathy for people 😑

The old system tax credits which my mum is on has a rule where you don’t have to find work until youngest is 5 (school age) but UC is brutal, it does seem wrong to push just turned 3 year olds into education if that particular child is not ready. My daughter would benefit from another 2 years at home with me, she’s already very delayed on speech and understanding, as well as problems with social interaction. I just checked my post and I got a letter from DWP dated 25th of august saying that they are sorry that they haven’t made a decision yet and that I won’t lose money. You may be getting one of those soon but as said before it’s hit and miss who gets a letter or not! But I’m hoping that means they are almost at a decision. I’ll be fuming if they make me wait over 8 weeks for a big fat NO lol

PeppaPigPocoyo · 02/09/2021 11:49

I’ve also just got my daughters first SALT assessment in the post and I’m wondering if there’s any point in sending it into them as extra evidence or if I should save it if I get rejected. Like could it help the decision move along quicker???

Ems1991 · 02/09/2021 11:54

Send it In I'm awaiting ariahs pediatrician details and they said to me that even if a decision it's made they will take the evidence to the person that make the decision and they will check they have made the right one so send it because if it can help your claim it means that if you do get a no the further evidence needed is already sitting for them to pick up @PeppaPigPocoyo

Mumof5babies · 02/09/2021 12:34

I wouldn't send it ring them and tell them. I sent loads a week ago on next day delivery its not scanned it yet they said it can take upto a couple of weeks to get scanned in. Ridiculous

Mumof5babies · 02/09/2021 12:41

@PeppaPigPocoya are you over 8 weeks now 👀. Takes so long I've seen tge odd few that have been waiting 4 even 5 months and still no decision made. How can they make kids wait so long to get the extra help. My youngest daughter didn't like nursery so i took her out till she was due to start full time she only did 2 days nursery. You do what is best for you and your child. My nearly 11 yr old I'm thinking of home schooling as hes still in pull ups due to bowel problems i don't want him to get bullied at the minute i can go to school to change him mid day when he hits puberty which won't be long will be worse 😔 dreading it

Ems1991 · 02/09/2021 12:44

I was told today it won't delay your claim @mumof5babies I would phone them though just to double check let me know as I was told to send it it won't affect my claim waiting time

Mumof5babies · 02/09/2021 12:48

@ems1991 i rand on tuesday the stuff i sent in they got last weds they signed for it and its not in the system told me upto 2 weeks for that to go on. Wish they'd hurry up cos i sent originals too my printer broke down i sent an envelope for special delivery so i get it back day after they send but no tracking available yet so they've not done it. Just hoping it cuts out them needing to get stuff for school and hospitals as their all in there if they get them on in time for whoever looks at it. New claims are taking around 10 weeks apparently see what they say next week when i ring for an update

PeppaPigPocoyo · 02/09/2021 13:00

I just got off the phone to them and spoke to a lady, I told her I have new evidence and whether it’s worth sending as it’s 8 weeks today. She said my claim was given to decision maker this week and that they usually don’t have them for too long and I could get a decision any time now. She said that if I sent in new evidence now that they might delay decision and waif for evidence which could take 3 weeks of get there. She recommended I hold onto it and if I’m not happy with my decision that I can use it as new evidence so I think I’ll go with that x

Ems1991 · 02/09/2021 13:03

I hope they got it I would maybe phone on Monday again the girl told me the letter for awards will take 7-10 days to get to us but if you phone they can tell you straight away I hope you get it on time I need mines as my daughter is in a toddler bed and I've been told I need to change it to a single bed for her to get a cuddle cloud to go over it to stop her banging her head I'm in position where I don't want to borrow money for it but may have to if it takes any longer you need dla as working isn't always an options and the cost to buy the things they need is ridiculous it's ridiculous for normal children to but asn children need extra food as they won't always eat wreck clothes easily and some need special clothes because of there situations and then equipment to help is not cheap I've been on sensory toy website and it's daylight robbery 🥺 @mumof5babies

Ems1991 · 02/09/2021 13:06

@peppapigpocoyo I was told the opposite today I don't no maybe its because mines is medication I hope it doesn't delay mine

PeppaPigPocoyo · 02/09/2021 13:13
@peppapigpocoyo I was told the opposite today I don't no maybe its because mines is medication I hope it doesn't delay mine
I think it might delay mine because it’s been 8 weeks and they are making a decision now, but if you still have a few weeks until the 8 week mark then sending in new evidence probably isn’t going to delay it. Lady on phone said that new claims are taking 8 weeks minimum at the moment x

10brokengreenbottles · 02/09/2021 13:27

Mumof5babies you should never send original documents, DWP don't return them. You can't be compelled to go to school to change DS. There should be a care plan and staff should do it.

Peppa Ems Do your DC have EHCPs? (Or CSP in Scotland, statement of SEN in NI or statement of SEN or IDP in Wales.) There are specialist nurseries if MS can't meet DC's needs, and of which have assessment places whilst going through the EHCP process. Nurseries can also apply for early years high needs top up funding if they need more money to meet a child's needs. Nurseries also get disability access funding for 3&4y/o's in receipt of DLA.

Under the old system a carer of someone waiting for a DLA/PIP decision could claim Income Support, however there isn't a similar rule for UC. Although your work coach can amend your claims to commitment taking in to account individual circumstances. The normal work commitment for a parent of a child 3-school age is 16hr/wk, then it increases to 25hrs/wk at school age until 12.

Ems have you applied for a Family Fund grant?

As hard as it is you just have to be patient. At least the wait for DLA isn't anywhere near as long as for PIP.

Mumof5babies · 02/09/2021 13:42

I told her on the phone she said they'd send them back i managed to copy the first 4 pages before it packed in so 12 pages are originals 😳. With school he won't let anyone but me help him even at home which is draining he won't even let his dad do anything for him got to be me. @10brokengreenbottles
