Sickening, what else can I do?

Over the weekend I became aware of a You Tube clip doing the rounds that for me is heartbreaking, frightening and has reinforced my determination to homeschool dd from y7.

Posted is a clip of three boys goading an ASD boy to meltdown, what makes it so horrifying to me is that it is taking place inside our catchment school (supposedly a very good school).

I have contacted the school and the governing body, had an acknowledgement telling me there is a meeting tomorrow and HT will contact me personally (led them to believe dd was a prospective statemented ASD pupil)

I've emailed the Inclusion Officer at the LEA and copied it up the chain of command.

I've flagged the clips on You Tube and left the school's contact details as a comment for others equally sickened to complain to the school (I've refrained from responding to the ignorant twats who think it's funny) It's had 35,000 hits Sad

Is there anything else I can do? I'd have liked to offer my support to the child's parents but don't know how to contact them.

Sorry to have to report this but it has gone viral. I can't keep up with the new ones appearing to report them. They've even made dance mix versions etc. Sad

This is heartbreaking - that poor boy. Sad

coff33pot · 18/10/2012 20:29

Can you pm me a link Moosemama? and then I will try and chase as many as I can and flag them too

moosemama · 18/10/2012 20:50

Coff, If you go to youtube and put I'm a prefect in the search engine, then select filters at the top and click on upload date, you will get about 8 pages, all with several versions on. Sad

I just made my way down the list flagging and disliking every single one.

There are a few response videos now with people saying their piece about how disgusting the video is and what they think of the bullies and there are lots and lots of people who are similarly outraged in the comments lists of many of the videos.

insanityscratching · 18/10/2012 20:54

To be fair he held his hands up, he understands just how appallingly let down the poor boy has been. He is sickened by what took place and has permanently excluded those responsible.

He has invited me to meet him at the school, see for myself that SEN children are well supported in school and I can speak to ASD children there to ask them if they feel safe and supported although he understands why I wouldn't want to just now and he says that offer is open to any parent.

He cannot explain why no one intervened because I pointed out it took place where there would undoubtedly be staff and was loud enough to be heard. I told him that was a serious lapse that needed investigating.

I said there is something missing within the fabric of the school if any pupil thought that was acceptable and didn't feel concerned enough of the consequences or of the possibility of being caught in the act to dissuade them from doing it in the first place.

I said whist I might accept that the majority of pupils are decent human beings the fact remains the school failed to protect that child from the undesirable minority.

He said the school and the police are doing everything in their power to get the video removed with little to no success and thanked me for the emails and for urging everyone to flag them as inappropriate and abusive.

I suggested he contact NAS and NSPCC, Childline and every other relevant organisation and enlist their help to exert pressure on You Tube.

So I think he is probably a decent HT (he's only been in the school seven weeks) and has probably inherited problems that aren't of his making and now he's on the back foot.

I might go and have look round, dd won't go there (she never was going there) maybe in a few years it will be a decent school for ASD children, who knows, he's certainly on a steep learning curve.

Utter utter bastards. Sad

I hope their parents are proud of what cruel little specimens they have raised.

Just searched on youtube and found all the versions, dance mixes, etc. Once stuff is put out into the the internet it's always out there. That poor boy. Sad

"I said there is something missing within the fabric of the school if any pupil thought that was acceptable and didn't feel concerned enough of the consequences or of the possibility of being caught in the act to dissuade them from doing it in the first place."

I agree wholeheartedly with you there, and on your point about not one teacher intervening despite being so close by. No way would I send my DS to this school.

OP as you are local to the school thought you may be interested in this comment on the studentroom forums

"I went to this school for sixth form....the prefect is autistic and is constantly wound up by people. Good job the police have got involved. There are certain groups of people at that school who tried to make his, and everyone else's, life hell.

Kinda makes me ashamed to have gone there :/ despite it being an ok school.

First 2 sixthformers die and now this, gotta feel sorry for the new head!"

boredandrestless · 18/10/2012 21:28

And this....

"The school has always used year 11s as prefects. It is only the head boy and girl which are from sixth form, and are voted in by staff and sixth formers.

To be fair, the school is very good with kids with learning difficulties- I used to help out in learning support. It is only a minority who bully them. On the whole most people there are respectful and caring, the school has a proper community feel. The problem is that it serves a very poor area and then many ok areas.

Then again, I didn't go there for lower school and I've heard rumours that the new head isn't amazing."

As well as lots of disgusting pages on facebook finding the video funny Angry there is also a page wanting the video taken down here:

insanityscratching · 18/10/2012 21:35

Yes he knows. I told him it's gone viral Sad I don't think they will ever get rid of them now tbh
I told him dd reported it within an hour of it being posted on Facebook and the school didn't act quick enough. I added that if one member of staff had intervened at the time the phones could have been confiscated and it would never have been broadcast so the root cause is a failure of his staff to intervene when it was happening and whilst I might have understood if what happened took place at the back of the tennis courts or in the courtyard it actually happened not ten metres from where there were undoubtedly school staff on their lunchbreak and that lack of care is shameful.

Omg I just watched so I could flag to you tube!its shocking that poor boy.
And as already said there's loads of videos now :(
You tube ate fooking sick allowing this

insanityscratching · 18/10/2012 21:43

He was brought in because of behaviour problems in the school as the previous head was more concerned with results if I'm honest. I don't know whether he is any good though all I know is he took the last school he was in from the verge of closure to a good school (as judged by OFSTED) in eighteen months and was respected and liked by parents there.

insanityscratching · 18/10/2012 21:50

Well only the reports will get it off of you tube won't they. I only venture on the fluffy parts of MN as I can't deal with some of the shit spouted about ASD in places. I'm game for it being raised over there so long as you lot are over there reporting any bile and MNHQ remove it.

coff33pot · 18/10/2012 22:51

:( opened a youtube account and flagged and reported as many as I can click on but they seem to be popping up everywhere.

LadyMaryCreepyCrawley · 18/10/2012 22:55

The youtube video linked to the FB page has gone.

"This video has been removed because its content violated YouTube's Terms of Service.
Sorry about that."

insanityscratching · 18/10/2012 23:06

Some have been removed but they are multiplying all the time Sad bWill keep flagging though as we are obviously making a difference. The victim's mum messaged me, she thanked us for what we are doing and will think about popping in but her dh has been rushed to hospital with renal failure Sad and she is run ragged and relying on CEOPS and the police to act for her.

Has the family made, or would they want, any contact with the press to try and get this taken down or would that make it worse?

What about contacting someone like Nicola Clark or Sally Bercow via the Guardian here

inappropriatelyemployed · 18/10/2012 23:52

Or their MP?
